Charlie Birnie is commercial director at GrainCo with responsibility for malting barley in Scotland. Charlie has worked in the agricultural trade for well over 20 years, first with SAI then Dalgety. Charlie, being a farmer himself, sees the trade from both sides helping him when talking to farmers about first hand experience and helping in their decision making.

David Young

David, the son of a Northumberland farmer, has worked for GrainCo since 2009. Prior to that David spent 27 years at NIAB, running variety trials on arable crops from the Regional Centre at Cockle Park near Morpeth, Northumberland. David uses his experience to compile our preferred variety list. He is BASIS and FACTS qualified and is available to recommend farmers on all aspects of seed varieties.

Doug Gray

Doug, a farmer's son from Northumberland, joined GrainCo as Business Development Manager in January 2011. He previously worked for EFFP, Dairy Farmers of Britain and Promar. Doug has been able to use his knowledge of developing grain stores to expand GrainCo as a business, as well as supporting both the trading and inputs team.

Ed read Agriculture at Wye College, London University. He was a grain trader in the South of England for 8 years before moving to Scotland 18 years ago.

Gary Bright - Managing Director

Gary is GrainCo's managing director and has been with the company since 1996. Before joining GrainCo, Gary worked for Soufflet which at the time was the largest privately owned agri business in France. Gary's business acumen and driving determination has propelled GrainCo to be one of the leading farmer-owned businesses in the UK. He offers extensive knowledge of world grain markets alongside guidance and support for his team.

Hayley Mitchell

Hayley left school in 2008, a farmer's daughter she spent her first harvest working in one of our inland stores. She joined our team as trading administrator and is now an integral member of the trading desk dealing with both grain and inputs admin.

James Chapman

James joined the company in 1999 after graduating from Harper Adams, he is a senior trader within the company specialising in Malting Barley, Milling Oats, Pulses and Oilseeds. He is a farmer's son from Catterick and offers extensive knowledge of grain markets. His knowledge is very well respected in the grain trade.

James Clark

James is a farmer's son from the Lothians. He graduated from Newcastle University in 2010, joining the GrainCo trading desk immediately after graduation. He is currently working hard establishing and servicing a client base in Southern Scotland and North Northumberland.

Keith Golesworthy has worked in the Grain Trade for over 35 years. He began his career at Kenneth Wilson's head office in England quickly moving from The transport department to the Trading Desk. He has worked in Scotland for 18 years now and has been with GrainCo Scotland since its inception. As well as overseeing the administration, Keith also trades Malting Barley, Milling Oats, Wheat & Barley. He is a past President of the Manchester Corn Trade and is also the current President of the Scottish Corn Trade.

He is currently servicing an established and growing client base in the Northumberland area.
