Adele Garland

Introducing Adele Garland, our vibrant and talented Social Media Executive. With her infectious energy and creative flair, Adele takes the reins of our online platforms, weaving her magic to engage and captivate audiences. From our crew of pilots and paramedics to our fundraising teams and head office staff, she effortlessly brings everyone together to create captivating content that spreads joy and raises awareness of our vital missions. Adele's professional journey began in the field of Marketing, but she embarked on an exciting detour, completing a PGCE and venturing into primary school teaching. However, her passion for marketing drew her back to the field when she joined our YAA marketing team in June 2022. Beyond her digital endeavours, Adele cherishes the time spent with her teenage daughters. They often enjoy leisurely walks together, seizing the opportunity to take photographs of their beautiful surroundings. An interesting fact about Adele is that her heart is captivated by Italy. She dreams of one day having her own little stone cottage in the charming region of Tuscany. Adele is currently dedicating herself to learning the Italian language, eagerly anticipating the day when she can fully immerse herself in the warm embrace of Italia.

Alex Clark

Alex lives in Woodkirk, Wakefield, and joined us as TCM in September 2022. Prior to joining YAA, Alex spent six years in the British Army as a medic and two and a half years as an Emergency Care Assistant for Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS). When asked why he wanted to join YAA, Alex said: "It's the pinnacle of emergency care!" In his spare time, Alex enjoys Rugby and running.

Alison Craven

Introducing Alison Craven, one of our committed Finance Officers at Yorkshire Air Ambulance. While Alison was born in Halifax, she has called Huddersfield home for most of her life. Her journey with YAA began in October 2022, where she assumed a key role within the Finance team, extending her support to various facets, including staff and volunteer expenditure, petty cash, VAT, and other essential month-end finance processes. Alison's commitment to YAA is rooted in her desire to give back. Recently retired from the NHS, she sought a part-time position to maintain her skills and connect with new people. Her decision to join YAA reflects her belief in the tremendous value of our charity. As she puts it, "YAA is a very worthwhile charity, which I wanted to be a part of." Alison's professional journey has been diverse and enriching. After leaving school, she embarked on a career as a Baker/Confectioner, honing her skills for nine years. Subsequently, she transitioned into the NHS finance sector, dedicating an impressive 34 years to the organisation. Her qualifications include being AAT certified and part-qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant. Beyond her professional life, Alison is an avid Huddersfield Town Football Club supporter, holding a season ticket for many years, sharing the excitement of match days with fellow supporters. Alison also enjoys dining out, cherishing moments spent with family, and embarking on leisurely walks with her lively 9-month-old dog, "Nellie."

Andy lives in Leeds and has been a Paramedic for four years and progressed to Team Leader, before joining Yorkshire Air Ambulance in 2022. Prior to working as a Paramedic, Andy was a personal trainer, a bodyguard, and was in the military. When asked why he wanted to work as a HEMS Paramedic, Andy said: "HEMS is the best job within the ambulance service and it's a job most paramedics aspire to." Interesting fact: In his spare time Andy enjoys scuba diving

Angela Vyas

Angela Vyas is one of our West Yorkshire Community Fundraisers. She covers the whole of the West Yorkshire region coordinating our in-store events and work with local community groups. "I really like that the role is varied and that I'm able to network and raise money for such an important cause. I also enjoy going to events that I would have never heard about such as Jazz festivals", said Angela. In her spare time, Angela enjoys walking, swimming and meeting new people. Interesting fact: In her spare time Angela loves personalising items, be it clothes or ornaments.

Becky Knight

Becky is from Wakefield and joined Yorkshire Air Ambulance in 2022. She previously worked a dual role as an ambulance paramedic and lecturer practitioner in Human and Health Sciences at the University of Huddersfield. Becky said: "I have always been interested in helicopters and critical care. I wanted to become a HEMS paramedic to challenge myself, help others and learn from the team's experience and expertise." Interesting fact: Becky has a spaniel called Pete.

Ben Price

Ben lives in Bradford and joined us as a TCM in September 2022. Before joining YAA Ben spent 12 years in the British Army and four years as an Emergency Care Assistant for Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS). "I'm really looking forward to broadening my knowledge and experiencing a different aspect of emergency medical care", said Ben. He continued: "Being able to fly is a bonus too!" In his spare time, Ben enjoys playing football and he's an avid Arsenal Football fan.

Caroline Myers

Caroline Myers is our Legacies Manager and has been working at the Charity since 2016, having previously worked in Marketing and Communications in the manufacturing sector. "I enjoy meeting donors and finding out why they are so passionate about Yorkshire Air Ambulance", said Caroline. When she's not working, Caroline enjoys walking, volunteering, and cooking.

Charles Handscomb

Meet Charles Handscomb, our charismatic Finance Officer. Hailing from the bustling streets of London, Charles made the move up north in 2004 and is now very proud to be a Yorkshireman (Although his accent still needs some work). He joined our head office team in April 2023 and has been instrumental in handling the financial intricacies of our charity's diverse income streams. With an impressive 35-year career primarily focused on Management Accounts, Charles reached a pivotal moment where he yearned to give back to a charitable organisation. Reflecting on his role, Charles said, "Every time I catch a glimpse of those iconic yellow helicopters soaring overhead, I swell with pride. Knowing that my work contributes to the incredible lifesaving efforts of our crew is truly inspiring." When Charles isn't crunching numbers and ensuring our finances are in tip-top shape, you can find him revelling in the world of live sports, particularly football. Since 1976, he has been a dedicated supporter of Fulham Football Club (We will forgive him) and has passed on this fervour to his son, with whom he often attends matches. Beyond his love for sports, Charles possesses a brilliant mind for puzzles and quizzes. His love for intellectual challenges led him to venture onto the television quiz show '15 to 1.' While luck may not have been on his side that day, his enthusiasm for games shows remains undiminished.

Claire Roberts

Introducing Claire Roberts, our delightful West and South Regional Administrator. With her warm and friendly demeanour, Claire is the first point of contact for your queries and concerns, ensuring that your questions are answered promptly and efficiently. She also plays a vital role in booking events across the two regions, meticulously logging donations, and providing invaluable administrative support to our dedicated fundraising teams. Before embarking on her journey with Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Claire pursued a career in education, qualifying as an early years teacher. Her passion for organising special occasions then led her to become a wedding and event co-coordinator before eventually joining the YAA team, where her exceptional organisational skills and warm-hearted nature found a perfect home. Outside of work, Claire's passion for the culinary arts takes the spotlight. A self-proclaimed aficionado of all things cheesy, she discovers solace and pure delight in the realm of cooking. However, whenever the opportunity presents itself to indulge in the world of Spanish Tapas, she joyfully leaps at the chance.

Clare Deacon - Chairman

Clare Deacon is one of our West Yorkshire Community Fundraisers. She joined the Charity in January 2020, initially working in our North region, before moving to West in 2022. "I enjoy working with people. Spreading the message of what we do whilst often meeting people who have been lifted is heart-warming and constantly reminds me of the need for such an important service", said Clare. In her spare time Clare is the chair of her local pre-school and likes being involved with the area she lives in. She also enjoys the great outdoors - working in and around Yorkshire is a dream come true for Clare. Interesting fact: Clare ran her own busy mains Post Office for thirteen years. She was one of only 500 Customer Relationship Managers in the whole network, of 11,500 offices.

Colin Hawkesworth

Colin Hawkesworth is one of our YAA pilots and he joined the charity in 2019. Prior to working for the YAA, he worked for the National Police Air Service. When asked what he loves about his job, Colin said: "The people I meet and the lovely countryside of North Yorkshire." In his spare time Colin enjoys walking, cycling, model making, cooking and watching Youtube videos. Interesting fact: Colin is an ex-army helicopter display pilot.

Cpt Steve Waudby

Cpt Steve Waudby is our Director of Aviation. Steve has worked for the Charity periodically since 2012 and took a permanent position within the charity in 2018, working his way up to Director of Aviation in 2019. In his role as the Director of Aviation, he is responsible for the safety of our aircraft and crew, staff development and training along with aircraft maintenance. "What I love about working for the YAA is the teamwork more than anything. We have a wonderful bunch of paramedics and doctors who are second to none. I like working in a team and the friendly banter that comes with it. We see a lot of dreadful accidents and incidents each week, so it's important to keep spirits lifted as much as possible and the team are fantastic at supporting each other", said Steve. In his spare time Steve enjoys photography and dancing. Interesting fact: When Steve was 12 years old, he was given a Royal Award for Gallantry for saving a four-year-old who had fallen into a flooded quarry

Dr Brian White

Dr Judith Parker

Judith became a Trustee for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) in 2016 and is a retired GP, having worked in General Practice in Huddersfield for 26 years. During this time she also had a variety of senior clinical management roles and was active in delivering post-graduate education to all grades of frontline health professionals. Judith enjoys her role in the charity, liaising with The Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust and members of the Critical Care Team. Judith was born and educated in York before attending Leeds Medical School where she met her husband, who was also a GP. They have two grown up children and continue to live in Huddersfield.

Dr Neil Sambridge

Dr Rob Anderson

Rob Anderson is one of our Consultants and he joined the charity in 2016. Rob has worked at many A&E departments in Hospitals across the North of England and whilst working for the British Army, he completed a tour in Afghanistan. "I enjoy making a real positive difference to the people of Yorkshire's lives in their time of need", said Rob. In his spare time, Rob enjoys watching cricket and socialising. Interesting fact: Rob is the 4 th generation of doctor in his family with the same name. There is a nursing home and street named after his grandfather in Stainforth near Doncaster.

Dr Steve Rowe

Dr Steve Rowe started working for the charity in 2009 and he's one of our HEMS Consultants. Steve spends one day a fortnight on the air ambulance as part of his NHS duties and the rest of the time he is a Consultant Anaesthetist at Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.

Dr Tim Moll

Dr Tim Moll is one of our consultants and the joined the charity in 2009. When he's not working for the YAA he is a consultant anaesthetist in a Major Trauma Centre.

Fiona Blaylock

Fiona is from Harrogate and joined Yorkshire Air Ambulance in 2022. She previously worked as a Combat Medical Technician in the army and in a prison healthcare department before becoming a Paramedic in 2013.

Garry Brasher

Garry Brasher is the YAA Pilot Training Captain and he joined the charity in 2013. Prior to working for the YAA, he worked for Specialist Air Services (SAS). When asked what he enjoys about working for the YAA, Garry, said: "Working as a team, and helping the public of Yorkshire." Interesting fact: Garry spent 22 years in the Army finishing in the Army Air Corps, flying Lynx helicopters, after 12 years as an infantry soldier.

Gemma Richmond

Gemma joined the Yorkshire Ambulance Service in 2002 as a Technician and worked at Menston Ambulance Station as an AEMT (Advanced Emergency Medical Technician) until she was offered a position at HART, Yorkshire's Hazardous Area Response Team. It was there she completed her Paramedic training and remained on the unit for eight years before joining YAA. Gemma said: "I really wanted the opportunity to experience life as a HEMS paramedic. I spent eight years working across Yorkshire providing a HART response so now is a really exciting opportunity to provide a similar response but arriving to the emergency in a completely different way and providing my patients with a wider variety of clinical skills. I am really looking forward to working alongside the Doctors, providing a critical care response to the patients in the greatest need and hopefully learning a huge amount from the Doctors' experience in pre-hospital care."

Helen Berriman

Helen Berriman is our West Regional Fundraiser. Helen joined the Charity in January 2020 as one of our West Yorkshire Community Fundraisers, having previously worked in the Hospitality industry for the last 16 years and was promoted to West Yorkshire Regional Fundraiser in 2021. "I joined YAA following the birth of my third child. Whilst on maternity leave I had time to think about the things I enjoyed doing and one of the things that stood out was the fundraising involvement I had working in hotels. I am very fortunate and proud to work for Yorkshire Air Ambulance", said Helen. In her spare time, Helen enjoys spending time with her family and book folding, where you create pictures/images by folding the pages of a book. Interesting fact: Helen appeared on ‘Don't tell the Bride'. Whilst working at Oulton Hall, Leeds in 2010 Helen was the wedding coordinator and was the successful venue chosen to host the wedding reception. Helen spent the full day filming a 5 minute show round and negotiation meeting. The couple chose to arrive by helicopter and Helen had to arrange for the golf course to be closed for their arrival.

Helen Callear

Helen Callear is our Director of Fundraising for North and East Yorkshire. Prior to joining YAA in 2013, she ran her own timber agency working with European timber suppliers to the UK. Helen is responsible, alongside Kerry, for overseeing our fundraising teams, implementing fundraising strategies, and making sure we're reaching our fundraising targets. "No two days are the same at Yorkshire Air Ambulance. We are a family, and we are lucky enough to meet lots of wonderful people - donors, ex-patients, and supporters across Yorkshire", said Helen. When Helen isn't working, she enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, painting, and reading. Interesting fact: Helen was a swimmer at school and used to swim butterfly. She took part in many galas, swimming alone because nobody else could do it. She was very slow but won because of the lack of competition!

Holly Brown

Holly Whitehouse

Holly is one of our South Yorkshire Community Fundraisers. Prior to joining the Charity in 2021, she worked for a small charity in South Yorkshire. Holly said ‘I love working in fundraising, I love the variety that comes with the role. I am sure most Fundraisers would agree that no day is the same. It is wonderful to see how generous people can be with their time and their money, to help support the work the Charity does. I have always been a fan of Helicopter ER, so when I saw the role at YAA advertised I knew I had to apply for it!' Interesting fact: Holly has climbed Ben Nevis, Snowdon, and Scafell Pike. She has lots more she would like to add to that list.

James Booth

James is a proud Yorkshireman and is Selby born and bred. With 25 years of flying experience, there isn't much that James hasn't done. After gaining both his private and commercial pilots' licences, James initially hosted pleasure flights, touring Yorkshire or even flying the odd bride and groom into their big day! James worked for a short stint with our neighbouring HEMS service, Great North Air Ambulance Service, igniting a passion for medical aviation. Working with Network Rail, James remotely inspected the railway and its infrastructure to ensure minimal disruptions to the train service. For the past seven years, James has headed up a 15-person team with the Police service, touring the country as a National Senior Pilot. James said, ‘I have always been interested in YAA, I was part of the film crew who chased the team around during the filming of season 1 of Helicopter Heroes (our original TV show, before Helicopter ER). From that moment I knew I would end up in the team, it was more just a question of when. I truly think YAA is the best and it is a huge honour to call this my job.' Interesting Fact: In his spare time, James and his best friend are rebuilding a SuperSTOL aircraft, with the hopes of soon teaching their children the ropes.

James Eastwood

From a background in engineering, James has been the Group IT Director of Renew Holdings since 2002, responsible for the provision of IT/IS throughout the transformation of the holding company from YJL/Montpellier (construction/property/investments) to Renew Holdings (providing multi discipline engineering services). James initially became involved with the Yorkshire Air Ambulance in 2016 advising on the upgrade of the charity's computer systems. He then become a Trustee in 2017 and provides advise to the charity on Information Technology. James is married to Nikki with two (nearly) grown up children and lives in Leeds.

Jane Horrod

Introducing Jane Horrod, one of our friendly North Yorkshire Community Fundraisers at Yorkshire Air Ambulance. With a wealth of experience as a journalist and in the public relations industry, Jane joined our charity in September 2022, bringing her expertise and boundless enthusiasm to the team. Day in and day out, you can find Jane immersed in a whirlwind of fundraising activities, from organising and attending events to hosting talks, working alongside our incredible volunteers, arranging bucket collections, and ensuring our collection tins from local businesses are well taken care of. When asked why she is passionate about her role, Jane said, "What I adore about our role is that no two days are ever the same, and that's what keeps me motivated. The most inspiring moments come when I have the privilege of meeting the very people we have airlifted and hearing their personal stories. It's a constant reminder of why we do what we do." Beyond her dedication to fundraising, Jane enjoys spending time with her four children and seven granddaughters. Outside of her cherished family time, Jane is also a passionate cook and gardener. An interesting fact about Jane is that she has previously spent 13 years living in Southwest France, where she embarked on incredible journeys throughout Europe in a camper van.

Jill Pukacz

Jill Pukacz is our executive PA and she provides administrative support to our Board of Trustees and our charity office staff. Jill joined the charity in 2011 following a varied career in the housing and financial services sector. Speaking of her role, Jill said: "It's a refreshing change to work in the Charity sector, having been in the financial services world for much of my working life. I enjoy the diversity of my role and supporting and working with a wonderful team of people to provide a first class air ambulance service to the county of Yorkshire." During her spare time, Jill enjoys walking, reading and spending time with her family. Interesting fact: Jill has lived in South, East and West Yorkshire - three of our regions!

Josh Adams

Originally from East Yorkshire, Josh, who now lives just East of Doncaster, joined YAA in March 2023. During his school years, the Cadets, of which Josh was a member, hosted some CCF (Combined Cadet Force) training. As part of the course, they visited an RAF base which planted the seed for Josh's future career ambitions. After obtaining his private pilot licence in the UK, Josh gained his commercial pilot's licence in Orlando Florida following a 14-month course. After returning from sunny California, Josh worked as an offshore pilot on oil rigs around the UK's East Coast. It was later in his career, whilst working for Specialist Aviation Services, that Josh got his first taste of HEMS work, with the Children's Air Ambulance service. Josh said, ‘A close family friend of mine is an ex-patient of YAA and hearing about all the lifesaving work the crew carries out each day made me feel really passionate to continue to use my skills to help people'. Being a father of two keeps Josh very busy outside of work, but when he gets the chance to hop on his motorcycle, he relishes the opportunity. Interesting fact: Josh is a keen landscape photographer, and carried out a foundation degree at Leeds College of Art.

Katie Collinson

Katie Collinson is our Partnerships Manager and has worked for YAA since 2006. Katie is the first port of call for all our Charity partners. "The charity is something very special. Every day is different and the sense of pride and achievement working for such a charity is wonderful", said Katie. Katie is a mum of two and enjoys shopping, holidays, spending time with her family and friends, and going skiing!

Keiron Hardwick

Meet Keiron Hardwick, our dedicated Community Fundraiser for East & North Yorkshire. Originally from Scarborough, North Yorkshire, Keiron now resides in the picturesque village of Hunmanby near Filey. His passion for our charity runs deep, as he was a dedicated volunteer long before joining our team full-time in February 2020. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance holds a special place in Keiron's heart. Reflecting on its significance, he shares, "The YAA is very close to my heart. Many years ago, a friend had to use the service, and it opened my eyes to the great work that charity does. If it wasn't for the YAA, my friend wouldn't be here today." Embracing his role as a Community Fundraiser, Keiron finds joy in connecting with the incredible people of Yorkshire. Listening to their stories, finding each encounter fascinating, and witnessing the profound impact our charity has on countless lives. Outside the realm of fundraising, Keiron cherishes precious moments with his family, relishing holidays and treasured time spent together. As a self-professed "car guy," he enjoys attending car shows and events across the country, often accompanied by his dad and their prized Ford Mustang. In addition to his fundraising endeavours, Keiron takes on a unique role as the local bingo caller every Thursday in the beloved pub, The White Swan. For approximately 8 years, he has delighted the community with his trivia, raising money for local charities, including Yorkshire Air Ambulance, all in return for a pint of his favourite beer.

Kerry Dwyer

Kerry Dwyer is our Director of Fundraising for West and South Yorkshire and has worked for YAA since 2009. She is jointly responsible, alongside Helen, for overseeing our fundraising teams, implementing fundraising strategies, and making sure we're reaching our fundraising targets. Kerry joined the Charity in 2009 as one of our first Community Fundraisers and has a background in events co-ordination. When asked what she loves the most about her job, Kerry said: "The passion and dedication of our brilliant supporters, I continue to be humbled by it, the amazing lifesaving work that we do, and working with such a fantastic team." In her spare time, Kerry enjoys spending time with her family, walking the dog, eating out, and going on holiday. Interesting fact: Kerry once had dinner with Ewan McGregor…along with 500 other people

Kevin Hutchinson

Kevin Hutchinson is one of our East Region Community Fundraisers and has been working for the Charity since 2016. Before joining YAA Kevin worked in the hospitality industry as a qualified chef. Speaking of what he loves about his job, Kevin said: "I enjoy attending the varied range of events across the region, working alongside our amazing volunteers, and meeting the public who support YAA and the patients YAA has helped." In his spare time, Kevin enjoys socialising with friends, Saturday night's out to see live entertainment and catching up on our TV show Helicopter ER. Interesting fact: Kevin's first couple of days working full time for the Charity was the same time we unveiled our new Airbus H145 helicopter G-YAAC at Nostell ASU for the first time.

Kevin Hynes

Kevin has been a Trustee since 2004 and now has responsibility for oversight of the Charity's Aviation and Operational activities, working closely with Steve Waudby (Director of Aviation) and Neale Jacobs (Director of Operations). Professionally, Kevin is now retired but his early career was in the motor industry and subsequently the banking sector, specialising in business delivery methods, regulatory risk, and colleague engagement. Before retiring to focus on Yorkshire Air Ambulance and being a Parish Councillor, Kevin owned a property management and sales business in Leeds. Kevin lives in the East Riding of Yorkshire on the glorious Yorkshire Wolds with his wife Jan. He has a keen interest in motorsports and archery, together with regular travel experiences.

Kit von Mickwitz

Kit is one of our Paramedics and joined our charity in 2014. When he's not working for the charity, he works on a response car in Leeds. When asked what he enjoys the most about being a HEMS Paramedic, Kit said: "The variety of cases and the places we visit and the ability to make a real difference in people's lives." In his spare time, Kit enjoys long walks with his family, cooking and baking. Interesting fact: Kit absolutely loves cheese!

Laura Lawton

Laura Lawton is one of our South Yorkshire Community Fundraisers. She joined the Charity in 2019 after working in marketing and production for a well-known book publisher. "I love the diverse nature of the job. No two days are the same. One day I could be doing a bucket collection in a supermarket, and the next I could be attending a gig performed by a Ukulele band! I work alongside a fantastic group of volunteers and fellow fundraisers and enjoy meeting a lot of interesting and inspiring groups and individuals", said Laura. When she's not at work, Laura enjoys spending her time walking and being out in the countryside. She's also a keen baker, a bookworm and a big fan of Barnsley Football Club and Formula One Racing. Interesting fact: Laura has visited over 15 battlefield sites across Northern Europe, including Dunkirk, Waterloo, the Somme, Normandy, Arnhem and Verdun. In 2018 Laura attended the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

Laura joined Yorkshire Air Ambulance in 2021 as HR Manager. She has a degree in Psychology and Human Resources Management and is CIPD qualified. Laura has worked in a variety of HR roles within a variety of sectors during her career - housing, utilities, financial services, and construction. Working in the charity sector for such a worthwhile cause is something Laura had always wanted to do and she enjoys the variety of work and interacting with the wider YAA team on a daily basis. Laura has two young children who keep her very busy - a son who loves skateboarding and a daughter who enjoys ballroom dancing. She enjoys cooking, travel, fitness and spending time with her family and friends.

Leanne Seward

Joining the charity in 2019, Leanne brought with her a wealth of experience in the realm of charitable organisations. With unwavering passion and dedication, she takes charge of all our branding and promotional marketing materials and is the driving force behind Yorkshire Air Ambulance's impactful digital and print presence. Leanne's love for her role is evident in her words, she said, "What I adore about this charity is the ever-changing nature of the work. No two days are alike, and that's what keeps me inspired. Knowing that I play a part in helping save lives across our region fills me with pride. It is truly an honour to be able to say that I work for YAA!" When she's not designing up a storm on Photoshop, Leanne finds joy in various pursuits. As a lover of an active lifestyle, she enjoys running and keeping fit, embracing the health benefits that exercise bestows. Additionally, Leanne loves the opportunity to jet away on well-deserved holidays, exploring new destinations and creating cherished memories with her friends and family. An interesting fact about Leanne is that in her younger years, she worked on a carrot farm as a carrot picker.

Lin Stead is our Regional Fundraising Manager for the North and East. Lin has worked for the Charity since 2016 and was promoted to her current role in 2022. She looks after our North and East regional fundraising teams and oversees all fundraising activity in her area. "I love the absolute randomness of the role, doing warm-ups with a Santa run to judging talent competitions, or standing in a muddy field holding the gazebo down to stop it blowing away", said Lin. Lin enjoys cycling and trekking in her spare time and taking in the impressive views across North Yorkshire. Interesting fact: Lin was airlifted from Pheriche hospital on Mt Everest after being taken ill on the way down from base camp. A very different helicopter to the amazing YAA helicopters.

Lindsey lives in Sheffield and joined Yorkshire Air Ambulance in 2022. Studying to become a Paramedic at Coventry University before going on to work in Bristol, for South Western Ambulance Service, Becky then moved to Yorkshire Ambulance Service before joining YAA. "I'm very excited about joining Yorkshire Air Ambulance. It has been a long term goal of mine to work in HEMS and I'm excited to get started and stuck in", said Lindsey. Interesting fact: In her spare time Lindsey plays Rugby Union.

Louise Shorrock

Louise Shorrock is our Office Manager. She provides guidance and support for our administrative team and oversees the general running of our Cayley House office. Speaking of her role, Louise said: "I love that the Yorkshire Air Ambulance is a local charity and what I do really makes a difference to people's lives." Louise owns a horse and in her spare time enjoys horse riding and spending time outdoors walking her dog. She is also a season ticket holder at Huddersfield Town! Interesting fact: The Fire Brigade once had to come rescue Louise and her pony when they both ended up in the canal and it made the local news. Thankfully both were unhurt!

Loz Lyles

Loz is our first female TCM , she lives in Batley in West Yorkshire and joined YAA in March 2023. She began her career following a bet with her brother, who insisted she could never become a Ski Instructor. Sure enough, 6 months later Loz was fully licenced and hit the Canadian slopes for two years before returning to the UK. Having always had a passion for aviation, Loz set for the skies with Jet 2 as Cabin Crew until Covid-19 hit. Throughout the pandemic, Loz joined Yorkshire Ambulance Service and worked as a Dispatcher, working to allocate ambulance crews across Yorkshire to medical emergencies. Loz said, ‘I have always been interested in helping others and emergency medicine has been something I have always been drawn to, tied with my love for flying, this job was the perfect mix of both of my passions'. In her free time, Loz can be found cuddling her two dogs, Lexi and Moose. Interesting Fact: Loz is part of her local female Ice Hockey Team - GO LEEDS ROSES!

Mark is a solicitor and partner at Yorkshire law firm Gordons LLP. He leads the food and drink sector at the firm and specialises in commercial disputes, data, and rare asset disputes. Most of Mark's time is spent advising listed or large privately owned businesses on challenging issues that they face from disputes with suppliers, regulators and how to avoid such situations entirely. That support regularly includes acting for his clients in High Court Proceedings and other forms of dispute resolution. In addition to advising businesses in private practice, since qualifying as a solicitor Mark has spent time working in-house for businesses like Morrisons and Iceland. Mark joined the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Board of Trustees in July 2021 to provide support, primarily on legal matters. Mark is married to Rachel and they live in Huby, between Otley and Harrogate.

Matty McCabe

Matty McCabe is one of our HEMS Specialist Paramedics - Critical Care, and he first joined the charity in April 2019. He previously worked at Yorkshire Ambulance Service as a Paramedic at Wakefield and Clinical Supervisor in Huddersfield and Wakefield and prior to joining YAS, he worked in West Midlands as a Paramedic. "I love being able to meet lots of different people from all over Yorkshire and beyond, whilst out on emergency calls. This could be up a hill, on a peak, on the beach, at the side of the road or in their own home! The opportunity to work with some very experienced Doctors, Paramedics and pilots is also an experience I do not take for granted and i am trying to learn as much as i can during my secondment here. Flying over Yorkshire on a sunny day is also pretty spectacular - we do live in a fantastic place after all", said Matty. In his spare time, Matty enjoys watching sports - Rugby, Cricket, Football, Boxing, Running, Hiking and going to Headingley Stadium to watch the Rhinos.

Meet Ruth Crossley

Meet Ruth Crossley, Finance Manager at Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Proudly residing in the vibrant town of Huddersfield, Ruth became an invaluable member of our YAA team in November 2020. It's worth noting that Ruth's journey began amidst the challenges of the second Covid-19 lockdown, which meant she didn't have the chance to meet her YAA colleagues face-to-face for a remarkable six months! Initially joining as a Finance Officer responsible for Purchase Ledger, In July 2021, Ruth was rightfully promoted to the position of Finance Manager, working closely with our Finance Director, spearheading Month End accounts and overseeing the rest of our talented finance team. Speaking of why she loves working for YAA, Ruth said, "Working for YAA not only allows me to pursue what I love but also provides me with a profound sense of fulfilment, knowing that I am contributing to supporting our lifesaving missions across Yorkshire." Outside the realm of finance, Ruth embraces the joyful busyness of her life as a mother to three beautiful children. Creating cherished memories with her family is a top priority. Additionally, Ruth finds excitement in attending concerts, immersing herself in the electrifying atmosphere alongside her family and friends. She takes great delight in sharing her passion for music with her two older children, who now accompany her to many of these gigs!

Michelle Raine

Meet Michelle Raine, our extraordinary Community Fundraiser for North Yorkshire at Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Nestled in the idyllic area of Wensleydale, Michelle joined our dynamic fundraising team in June 2023, ready to make a profound impact on the lives of others. Michelle's personal connection to our cause is deeply rooted in her own journey as an ex-patient. Driven by a deep sense of gratitude and passion, she recognised that working for YAA would allow her to utilise her experiences to give back. Reflecting on her role, Michelle said, "Joining YAA was a way for me to channel my gratitude and passion for the charity that once helped me. Being part of this fantastic team has been an incredible journey, where no two days have been the same. I absolutely love it!" Outside the realm of fundraising, Michelle finds joy in her creative (and often messy) pursuits. Painting, baking, and drawing form the heart of her hobbies, allowing her to express her artistic spirit. An interesting fact about Michelle adds an adventurous twist to her story. At the age of 19, she embarked on an exciting journey, travelling around New Zealand. However, her adventures were cut short, when she suffered a serious accident, requiring the attention of our YAA crew whilst visiting family at home in the UK. Sadly, missing her return flight to New Zealand by a few days. (We are pleased to share that Michelle has since made a remarkable recovery).

Mike Harrop - Chairman

Mike joined Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) initially as a volunteer in 2017 and, due to his extensive background in the military, was subsequently invited to become a Trustee in 2019. Mike became YAA Vice Chairman in November 2022, and Chairman in July 2023. Prior to joining YAA, Mike served in the Royal Air Force for 30 years, fulfilling a wide variety of posts including crisis management operations in Whitehall, counter-narcotics law enforcement, and immediately prior to his retirement as the Station Commander of RAF Scampton - the home of the Red Arrows. With a Masters Degree in Leadership, he now works part-time as a leadership and management consultant as well as providing emergency planning advice to his local Parish Council. Mike brings to YAA considerable experience in leadership, senior management, and air operations including first-hand experience with aviation governance and its responsibilities. Mike lives in Malham. He is married to Sarah-Jane and they have one grown-up son.

Neale Jacobs - COO

Neale is our Director of Operations. He is responsible for the day to day running of our airbases, offices, IT requirements and administration - generally anything that is fixed to the ground. Neale works closely with external agencies including the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, National Police Air Service (NPAS), Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), White Knights Yorkshire Blood Bikes & Local Mountain Rescue Services. Neale joined the charity in 2003 and has held various posts in that time. Prior to joining the charity he worked in the insurance industry and automotive industry. Although not originally from Yorkshire Neale moved to the county in 1996 and is proud that his children are born and bred Yorkshire folk.

Owen McTeggart

Owen is Chief Pilot for the YAA and he joined our charity in 2019, having previously worked for another air ambulance charity. When asked what he loves about his job, Owen said: "The extended night HEMS hours and the family environment." In his spare time he enjoys running and coaching junior Rugby. Interesting fact: This is not the first time Owen has worked for the YAA! He was initially employed to fly out of Topcliffe in 2012.

Paul Holmes

Paul joined the ambulance service in 1999 as an Ambulance Technician (now called EMT). In 2003 he became a qualified Paramedic, being promoted in 2007 to a Clinical Team Educator. He was then promoted to the role of Clinical Team Leader in 2010. The two positions then merged in 2012 to become a Clinical Supervisor. He was asked to undertake a secondment as a Locality Manager in Doncaster before returning as a Clinical Supervisor prior to joining the YAA. In 2015 he was successful in his assessments and obtained a place on the unit, becoming a permanent member of staff in 2017.

Pilot Mascot

Percy joined the Yorkshire Air Ambulance in the summer of 2017 as a Pilot Mascot and has been working hard for us ever since. Attending a huge number of events and helping our fundraisers to tell as many people as possible about the work that we do saving lives across Yorkshire. Percy is often joined by his colleague and good friend Polly Paramedic but sometimes you will see him at events with Polly, who may be attending another event at the same time. Together with Polly, Percy took part in the 2019 Race for Jo - Mascot Race at Oakwell Country park on 23rd June 2019. It was a hot, sunny day but Polly and Percy did their very best. They may not have finished first but this race was definitely about the taking part and about meeting lots of other mascots from other charities and sports clubs. These included Ronnie the Rhino from Leeds Rhinos and Roger Ram from Dewsbury Rams RLFC.

Rebecca Selkirk

Meet Rebecca Selkirk, our bubbly Public Relations and Engagement Manager at Yorkshire Air Ambulance. A proud Northerner, Rebecca lives in Leeds and joined the YAA team in January 2023. With a zest for storytelling, she is responsible for sharing the incredible tales of our fundraising triumphs, charity milestones, and heartwarming patient stories with local press publications. Through her efforts, she ensures that the vital mission of our charity resonates far and wide. Rebecca's journey in the realm of healthcare communications began within the esteemed NHS before expanding her experience at a rapidly growing care home company, as part of their press office. Rebecca said, "Working within the healthcare industry has always held a special place in my heart. The privilege of meeting and interacting with inspiring patients, and being a part of their journeys, is truly remarkable. When the opportunity arose to be a part of such an iconic Yorkshire charity, I enthusiastically leapt at the chance." Beyond the world of press releases and engaging narratives, you'll find Rebecca immersed in the electrifying atmosphere of gigs and festivals. Additionally, Rebecca passionately pursues her love for horse riding, embracing the excitement and adrenaline that comes from the equestrian world. An interesting fact about Rebecca adds to her vibrant personality: She resided on the sun-kissed island of Lanzarote, Spain, from the ages of 11 to 16, immersing herself in the vibrant culture and becoming fluent in Spanish. This unique experience bestowed upon her a deep appreciation for diversity and a love for embracing different cultures.

Richard is a Chartered Accountant with over 35 years' experience of professional practice in South Yorkshire. Until his retirement in 2018 he was a partner in Hawsons Chartered Accountants, a firm he joined in 1986. Richard has been a Trustee in a number of charities since 1993 and joined the Yorkshire Air Ambulance in 2020. Richard lives near Wetherby in West Yorkshire and is married with a daughter and a step daughter.

Rob Scott

Rob Scott first joined the Charity as a volunteer in 2015 and then became one of our East Yorkshire Fundraisers in 2018. Rob is responsible for overseeing all the fundraising in the East Yorkshire region, working alongside Kevin and Keiron. "I enjoy getting out and about at all the shows and events and meeting the people that support us and help to keep the Charity saving lives", said Rob. Each year Rob runs a car rally to Benidorm to raise funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. On average they have 65-75 cars that join them every single year! Interesting fact: Rob has been a Gritter and snowplough driver for 15 years for North Yorkshire Highways and one of his ambitions is to drive the Dalton Highway in Alaska for the winter season in a truck.

Ross Fairbairn

Ross lives near York and has a background working as a Firefighter for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, and working in the Royal Navy as a Helicopter Crewman. He joined us in September 2022. When asked why he wanted to join YAA, Ross said: "I wanted to carry on as a professional aviator in an emergency service environment." Ross loves anything outdoors and his pastimes include mountain biking, hill walking, and running.

Sam Berridge

Sam lives in Bridlington and joined Yorkshire Air Ambulance in 2022. He began his career working in the Coast Guard Search and Rescue Team for nine years and joined the ambulance service in 2016. He worked his way up to Team Leader before joining the Charity. "I wanted to work for Yorkshire Air Ambulance because it's the best air ambulance in the country and brings the very best care to critically ill patients and working in the fantastic small Critical Care Team will allow me to do this", said Sam. Interesting fact: Sam is still on the coast guard team and he used to be a fire arms instructor

Sammy Wills

Sammy Wills is one of our HEMS Paramedics and Clinical Supervisors and her first flying day at the YAA was 21st September 2002! "I love being part of the team that can provide a fantastic pre-hospital service, in a timely speedy way, for all the people in Yorkshire and those blessed to visit", said Sammy. Sammy is a serving member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In her spare time, she enjoys riding her mountain bike, running on the moors and spending time with her family - especially her 7 nieces and nephews. Interesting fact: Sammy is a Winston Churchill Fellow. She loves to travel and had the opportunity to fly around the world visiting other Air Ambulance units.

Sarah Pogson is our friendly Merchandise Co-ordinator at Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Sarah is from the charming town of Holmfirth and forms part of our Marketing team. Sarah is responsible for our online shop, ensuring our supporter's orders are sent out in a timely manner. Sarah also works closely with our fundraising teams, making sure they are well-equipped with the latest YAA merchandise for their stalls and events. Before becoming an integral part of YAA, Sarah honed her skills in the fundraising and membership department of another charity. Igniting her passion for working within charitable organisations. When asked about her motivation to join YAA, Sarah's enthusiasm shines through. She said, "I feel so proud to work for the YAA. It's a charity that plays such a vital role in saving lives across Yorkshire. I jumped at the chance of being a part of such an incredible team of people; it's a true privilege!" When she isn't working, Sarah immerses herself in her love for the Yorkshire countryside. Riding her horse and walking her dogs are her most cherished activities. Her vibrant social life includes attending gigs and nights out with friends. But when Sarah just fancies a chilled night at home, you'll likely find her indulging in a bowl of homemade pasta while watching Parks and Recreation, accompanied by a glass of wine. An interesting fact about Sarah is her dedication to her ex-racehorse, Finley. Over the past three years, she has undertaken the task of retraining Finley, which has not always been a smooth ride, but Sarah considers Finley's progression one of her greatest privileges and achievements. Hard work truly does pay off!

Stephen lives in West Yorkshire, in the picturesque market town of Otley. He joined Yorkshire Air Ambulance in March 2023. Before joining YAA, Steven was in the Army for six years, serving in the Royal Logistics Corps as a Driver. After leaving the Army, Stephen joined Yorkshire Ambulance Service, working in the Emergency Operations Centre as a call handler, before becoming an Emergency Care Assistant.

Tammy Williams

Tammy joined Yorkshire Air Ambulance in 2022. After completing a three-year BSC Paramedic Science degree in London and qualifying in 2016, Tammy initially worked out of Deptford, before coming back up to Yorkshire where she was based at Wakefield before joining YAA. Comparing London to Yorkshire, Tammy said: "Working on the land ambulance you have a lot more trauma such as RTCs and stabbings in London and the trauma is quite invasive. It's a lot more rural up here. Being exposed to that level of trauma made me want to be a HEMS Paramedic and expand my knowledge."

Terri-ann Lonie

Terri-ann became a Paramedic in 2017, initially based out of Keighley, then Pateley Bridge, and finally Harrogate. She then completed a secondment at HART, Yorkshire's Hazardous Area Response Team, before joining Yorkshire Air Ambulance in 2022. When asked why she wanted to join YAA, Terri-ann said: "I wanted to work with the most amazing clinicians, Paramedics, and Pilots. The pre-hospital care they give and the speed that they can fly a patient to the hospital is incredible."

Tessa Klemz

Tessa Klemz is our North Regional Fundraiser. She joined the Charity in 2019 as North Region Community Fundraiser and was promoted to her current role in 2022. "I love the variety of the role and never knowing what each day is going to bring, who I'm going to speak to and whether I'm going to come home with £2, £20, £200 or £2,000. I really enjoy meeting all sorts of people with wonderful stories (some not always so happy) and having the opportunity to travel around beautiful North Yorkshire…whatever the weather. YAA is such a well respected and valued charity", said Tessa. In her spare time Tessa enjoys walking her dog Widget and trying to keep up with her sons on their mountain bikes. She also likes cooking, pilates, gardening, music and travel. Interesting fact: Tessa volunteered at a self-help project charity in KwaZulu Natal in South Africa for six months in her early-20s. There were sewing projects, pre-school feeding schemes, poultry projects, brick-making projects and vegetable planting. One time she was driving on her own to a village and got stuck in the mud about ½ mile from her destination. The local tractor had a flat tyre so a very friendly local organised his four donkeys who managed to pull her out.

Tom lives in Tadcaster. Prior to joining YAA, he was in the parachute regiment and then worked scaffolding and wagon driving before working for Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) for four years. Speaking of YAA, Tom said: "It is the pinnacle, isn't it? It's what everyone in emergency services aspires to be." Tom enjoys motorbiking, walking the dogs, and going for a pint in his spare time. He also has a little girl.

Vickie Cowan

Vickie Cowan is our Regional Fundraising Manager (West and South) and has worked for the Charity since 2016. Vickie joined the Charity as West Yorkshire Community Fundraiser, becoming West Yorkshire Regional Fundraiser in 2018 and Regional Fundraising Manager in November 2021. Vickie's role involves overseeing all of the fundraising in West and South Yorkshire, working closely with West and South Regional and Community Fundraisers. "I love the variety of my role and working with so many different people. My favourite part of my job has to be when we're out and about and we hear stories from our ex-patients! There isn't a day that goes by when we aren't reminded about how vital the service is and the difference it can make", said Vickie. In her spare time, Vickie enjoys travelling and planning her next trip away. She also enjoys baking cakes and going to the gym afterwards so she doesn't feel quite as guilty and she's also a Leader at her local Girls' Brigade. Interesting fact: Mickey Mouse used to be Vickie's boss as she spent a summer working at Disney World in Florida!

Will Collinson

Will, from Baildon in Bradford, joined YAA in March 2023. Will had over nine years of experience working as a safeguarding officer with Macmillan Cancer Support and an Air Observer with British Transport Police Force. Alongside his duties, Will volunteered for Yorkshire Ambulance Service as a community first responder, where he would occasionally be the first on scene to deliver emergency care before the ambulance crew arrived. Most recently, Will has qualified as a contingency Fire Fighter for West Yorkshire Fire Service. Will said, ‘I truly believe there is no better office than inside of a Helicopter'. When he is not working, Will can be found at the side of a football pitch, cheering on the under 16's girl's football team that he coaches. Interesting Fact: Will has had a Bradford City season ticket for over 25 years.

William Newton

William is from Wakefield in West Yorkshire and is our youngest TCM. Prior to joining YAA in March 2023, he worked as a Police Officer with West Yorkshire Police for nearly four years. Alongside working for YAA, William volunteers with the RAF Air Cadets and has been part of the organisation for ten years. When asked why he wanted to join the YAA crew, William said, ‘I'm looking forward to the challenges of working as an aviator in a professional and experienced HEMS team.' Outside of work, on sunny days, William can be found playing cricket and riding his mountain bike. Interesting Fact: William flies in his spare time as he holds a fixed-wing pilot's licence.
