Alan Howson - Chairman

Alan has been with the Association since its inception in 2012, initially as a Non-executive Director. He has worked in the ambulance sector for over 25 years, managing the IHCD (and NHS predecessor) training programmes in the UK and overseas. A well known and respected figure, Alan managed the successful petition for the registration of Paramedics, working closely with the CPSM (now HCPC) and key stakeholders to establish the first register of Paramedics and Paramedic Board. Alan is strongly committed to working with Directors, member organisations and business partners to fulfill the Associations mission to be the credible, effective and recognised voice of the independent ambulance sector. In his spare time Alan enjoys attending Horse Trials across all levels.

Ali Hashim

Ali is the owner and Managing Director for BEARS Ambulance Service, who provide patient and specialist transport services, including bariatric, high dependency and mental health patients. Ali re-joined the Board in June 2019, having previously been Secretary when the Association was formed in 2012. In his spare time Ali is a secret chef who likes nothing more than cooking for family and friends. He also supports community enterprise initiatives in third-world countries, supporting individuals to develop their business and local housing schemes.

Andrea Ewers

Andrea is a registered mental health nurse and is the Director and Registered Manager of Pegasus Medical (1808), a non emergency specialist mental health transport service based in the West Midlands. Andrea has worked within the NHS for a number of years in various clinical roles within acute inpatient settings and currently also works within the Patient Flow Service. Her passion and professional interests are acute mental health care, psychiatric intensive care and the management of violence and aggression. Her drive and ambition is to improve patient and carer experience within the sector.

Craig Smith

Craig is the Managing Director of E-Zec Medical Transport. Having joined the British Army in 2004 as a Commissioned Officer, Craig had the honour of leading teams in a number of overseas and UK deployments for over 10 years. Since leaving the Army, Craig has worked in a number of different businesses that provide outsourced healthcare services, including G4S and Falck. In his spare time he can be found running in circles around Richmond Park or trying his best to keep my highly energetic Springer Spaniel busy.

David Genovesa

John Fraser

John Fraser is Managing Director of First Care Ambulance, a leading provider of health transport solutions based in Devon. With over 35 years business experience, John has successfully led teams in a variety of sectors including finance and recruitment. Outside of work he is a budding bee keeper.

Mark is the Chief Executive of Falck UK Ambulance Service 2016 part of the Falck Group, Europe's largest provider of ambulance services. Mark started his career in the highway and transportation sector where he spent 30 years working for local government and consultancies. This included 8 years as Managing Director of a national urban highway design business and Executive Director in a national outsourcing Group providing a broad range of transport related services to the public sector, including the NHS. Mark has worked in a senior leadership position in the ambulance sector for over six years, with responsibility for large scale Emergency and Patient Transport operations. In his spare time Mark enjoys travelling and all sports; he's a qualified cricket coach has led his local youth team for 5 years.

Philip Hennessey

Philip is Director of Communications and Business Development at Health Transportation Group UK (formerly Thames Ambulance Service). Following more than a decade working as a journalist for Guardian Series Newspapers, Philip joined Arriva Transport Solutions as Head of Communications within its patient transport and specialist mobility operation. Philip moved within the Arriva Group, becaming Head of Communications and Marketing for the Arriva UK Bus division before returning to the patient transport sector with Thames Ambulance Service in January 2021. In his spare time Philip is a keen musician playing both guitar and piano.

Rob Johnson

Rob is the Director of Operations at Bristol Ambulance EMS, a large south west based provider of emergency frontline ambulance resources and non-emergency patient transport to NHS and private patients. He is also the company's registered CQC Manager. Rob has worked in the Ambulance sector for over a decade, having previously held managerial positions in the NHS Ambulance Service. Before becoming involved in healthcare Rob was the Regional Operations Manager for a large retail company. He has a diploma in Leadership and also a diploma in Management in Health and Social Care. In his spare time Rob enjoys time with his family and can be found either driving (or more often repairing) his classic John Cooper S Mini.
