MWG

George Washington became a land surveyor as a teenager in 1749. He built a reputation over three years as a fair, honest and reliable surveyor. He continued surveying as late as 1799, months before he died. He used magnetic north in his recorded surveys, but surveys were commonly corrected to true north using tables after 1772.
