Dr. Carol Leary and Noel Leary. Noel and I will miss all of you dearly and, of course, our students and alumni. Our lives have been enriched by so many shared experiences like Campus Awakening on the first day of class, Convocation, Campus Days, Alumni Reunion, Capitals of the World trips, the Women's Leadership Conference, Academic Achievement Day, the President's Gala, the Rose Ceremony, Graduate academic pinnings and ceremonies, and naturally, Commencement… the list goes on! We have a lifetime of memories that will forever be in our hearts. President Leary has announced her plans to retire as president of Bay Path University on June 30, 2020. President Carol Leary received the prestigious 2019 Donna Shavlik Award from the American Council of Education for her contributions to education. Past recipients include Donna Shalala, former president of the University of Miami and US Secretary of Health and Human Services, and Beverly Tatum, former acting president of Mt. Daffodils, tulips, and forsythia blossoms herald Spring in New England. On the Bay Path campuses it is a time when our students take advantage of warm days to study or relax outside. It is their time to look ahead to final exams, commencement, and plans for the summer. This spring at Bay Path is also highlighted by Dr. Leary's announcement of her retirement plans. So, this spring is a time for reflection on the school's success and for appreciation of her dedicated and talented leadership. The entire Bay Path community will look forward to celebrating Dr. Leary's accomplishments over the next year. Carol has shared with me her memories of Bay Path College in 1994 when she took the helm. The comparison with Bay Path University in 2019 is dramatic. In 1994 there were under 450 students and undergraduate programs exclusively. Today the school has 3,400 students and offers undergraduate, masters, and doctorate degrees. In 2014 and 2015 The Chronicle of Higher Education named Bay Path as one of the 20 fastest growing baccalaureate colleges in America; in 2017 and 2018 the school was listed among the fastest-growing "private nonprofit master's institutions." The school's growth is even more remarkable given its consistently strong commitment to serving women of all ages. Through a series of strategic plans (named "Visions") Bay Path has benefited from Dr. Leary's innovative and entrepreneurial leadership. Just a few of the landmarks achieved are the introduction of the One Day A Week Saturday Program for adult women in 1999, the offering of the first graduate degree in 2001, the 2013 launch of The American Women's College which offers a first-in-the-nation online baccalaureate program geared for women, achievement of University status in 2014, and the first offering of a doctoral program in 2017. We Trustees know Carol as a strong, energetic leader who has assembled an outstanding administrative team. We regard her with the highest respect. The local community and national organizations have applauded her talent as well. Carol's work in higher education has been recognized in numerous awards and leadership positions. This year she received the Donna Shavlik Award from the American Council on Education. One of our Trustees termed this award "The Oscar" of higher ed. In addition, Carol currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Association of American Colleges and Universities.

She began her tenure on June 30, 2020 with the goal of strengthening the institution's mission of empowering undergraduate women and graduate women and men to become leaders in their careers and communities and to develop a vision and blueprint for the future. Doran possesses a deep personal and professional commitment to women's education, dedicated to providing women with the skills to succeed as change agents in their professional lives, their families, and their communities. She is passionate about the University's vision that "At Bay Path, every learner's dreams of a better career, a richer life, and a brighter future will be realized." Doran brought her action-driven mindset and collaborative leadership to Bay Path at a time of unprecedented worldwide public health and social justice challenges. Through her steadfast commitment to the health and well-being of the Bay Path community, and a leadership style focused on building teams, the campus continued to thrive and effectively serve students by leveraging Bay Path's 15 years of experience and expertise in providing cutting edge online learning and learner support. On the first day of her presidency, she established the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Committee to the President, reinforcing DEI as central to the University's core values and as a foundational building block for a strong organizational culture. In December of 2020, she launched One Bay Pat h, a community-driven strategic planning process in support of the University's mission. Prior to Bay Path, Doran served as President of Salem Academy and College, founded in 1722 and the country's oldest women's academy, where she successfully developed and implemented a coherent vision and plan for the future focused on innovative student learning experiences. Previously, Doran served as the President of American College of Education, an online doctoral institution, serving more than 3500 students, that offers affordable and accessible programs to working teachers. During her tenure as Vice President, General Counsel and Chief of Staff at Lesley University, she directed the major initiatives of the President's Office through coordination and oversight of the University's executive management team. As Chief Legal Officer for Shaw's Supermarkets, Inc., Doran was a member of the executive team responsible for the growth of the company from $100 million to $2 billion in revenue. Doran serves on several national boards, including Board Chair of the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation, board member of the Online Learning Consortium and member of the tax committee of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.
