Carolyn Strudwick

Carolyn Strudwick oversees Safe Horizon's Streetwork Project for homeless youth. Ms. Strudwick began her career in social services at Safe Horizon in 1993 as an outreach worker and case manager at Streetwork. She has worked with street-involved youth in many capacities, including group facilitation, clinical case management, and shelter supervision. Ms. Strudwick is a seasoned and leading expert among youth providers in New York City. She received her Master's in Social Work from the Hunter College School of Social Work at the City University of New York.

Denise Hagley

Denise Hagley joined Safe Horizon in December 2000. In her role as Finance Controller, Ms. Hagley oversees the agency's accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and grants management operations. She is responsible for the day to day financial activities of the organization, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintaining the accounting records system, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to reduce risk, enhance the accuracy of the agency's reported financial results, and ensure that the reported results comply with accepted accounting principles. Before joining Safe Horizon, Ms. Hagley filled a similar role at the College of Insurance (now St. John's University) and Power of Attorney. She graduated from Bernard Baruch College and the New York City College of Technology.

Dr. Lisa A. O'Connor

Dr. Lisa A. O'Connor was promoted to the roles of Deputy CEO and Chief Program Officer as of March 2021. Lisa joined Safe Horizon in 2013 as the Deputy Chief Program Officer and was later promoted to Chief Program Officer. She is a psychologist by training and has spent most of her career in service to children and families impacted by violence. During her time at Safe Horizon, Lisa has led efforts to address the needs of young men of color who have been harmed by violence; implemented client-centered, trauma-informed practices that recognize the impact of racism in the lives of survivors; and led the successful fulfillment of a five-year strategic plan. Prior to Safe Horizon, Lisa spent almost a decade in child welfare developing and implementing new program models and policies, first as an Assistant Commission at the Administration for Children's Services and later as Vice President for Children and Family Services at the New York Foundling. In these roles, she designed innovative programs that brought evidence-based models to preventive services and for children in foster care and residential placement. She also developed policy and specialized foster care programming to help reduce child welfare's use of residential placements for young people approaching adulthood. Lisa has devoted most of her career to working on behalf of vulnerable populations. She has provided direct service to families in crisis: those experiencing family violence, impacted by poverty, and involved in systems. She received her PhD in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University and a BA in Psychology from Smith College.

Dr. Ovita Williams

Dr. Ovita Williams joined the Board in 2022. She is a Lecturer in Discipline and the Executive Director at the Action Lab for Social Justice in the Columbia University School of Social Work. Dr. Williams has previously served as Associate Director of Field Education Columbia University School of Social Work, Director of Clinical Services in the Counseling Services Unit at the Kings County District Attorney's Office, and co-authored ‘Learning to teach, teaching to learn: A guide for social work field education. She has developed and facilitated interactive workshops for social workers, managers, and various practitioners on facilitating challenging dialogues around racism, class, gender, sexual orientation, and intersecting identities. At Columbia, Dr. Williams has worked with students, alumni, faculty, and administrators on the development of the foundations' course, "Decolonizing Social Work", through a power, race, oppression, and privilege framework. The course centers on undoing anti-Black racism and dismantling white supremacy culture. She holds a bachelor's degree from Vassar College, an MSW from Columbia University School of Social Work, and a Ph.D. from Silberman School of Social Welfare.

Eboni K. Williams

Eboni K. Williams joined the Board in 2018. She is an attorney, best-selling author, television personality, and journalist. She is currently the Host & Executive Producer of "REVOLT Black News," which airs on REVOLT TV founded by Sean "Diddy" Combs. She's also the Host & Executive Producer of the iHeart Media podcast "Holding Court with Eboni K. Williams" and a cast member on Bravo TV's "Real Housewives of New York City." Erin White

Erin White joined Safe Horizon in 2018. Erin is responsible for nationally expanding awareness about the organization, driving its advocacy agenda and advancing understanding of how to prevent violence and empower victims of violence to move from crisis to confidence. She formerly served as Deputy Communications Director for Mayor Bill de Blasio and led communications for First Lady Chirlane McCray. Erin has a background in national advocacy, nonprofit communications, and government relations, as well as experience in reporting and media relations. Prior to serving in the de Blasio administration, Erin served as a senior communications strategist for the American Civil Liberties Union and a communications consultant for a variety of national nonprofits, leading national advocacy campaigns, communications strategy for Supreme Court cases, providing crisis management support and more. Her work has won national industry awards for multicultural campaigns and campaigns on a shoestring budget. Erin received a BA degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Grace Richardson joined the Board in 2017. She is a retired Vice President of Global Consumer Affairs from Colgate-Palmolive. Grace became involved in organizations targeted to empowering the lives of women and girls by Chairing the Board of the NYC YWCA and internationally with the US Committee for UN Women as well as Women for Women International and the World YWCA. Greg Brooks joined Safe Horizon in 2014. Greg was previously the associate executive director for finance and administration at the 92nd Street Y. He has held positions in New York City government, including deputy comptroller for policy, audit, accountancy, and contracts and executive assistant/chief of staff to the Brooklyn Borough President. Greg was also the Brooklyn member of the New York City Board of Education and a member of the Board of the Directors of the New York City Economic Development Corporation. Jeffrey Brodsky

Jeff Brodsky joined the Board in 2012. He is a Senior Advisor at Morgan Stanley where he works directly with senior leaders and the Board of Directors on a range of employee-related matters, including succession planning, compensation, and diversity and inclusion. Jeff also provides coaching to Firm Management and other high-potential leaders across the Firm. In 2011, he was named the Chief Human Resources Officer, and held that position through early 2021. Jim Fulton joined the Board in 2021. He is a Partner at international law firm Cooley LLP where he focuses on representing both emerging and established technology, healthcare, and biotechnology companies and the venture capital firms that invest in those companies. Concentrating in corporate and securities law, Jim counsels companies throughout their lifecycle on matters ranging from company formations, private financings, employee equity incentives, and executive hiring, to complex spinouts, mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, and SEC reporting and compliance. Prior to joining Cooley, Jim was a senior budget analyst with the US government's Office of Personnel Management. Jo Natauri

Jo Natauri joined the Board in 2018. She is a partner in the Merchant Banking Division (MBD) at Goldman Sachs. Previously, she worked in the Consumer Retail and Healthcare Group in the Investment Banking Division, responsible for coverage of large, multinational companies across the healthcare and consumer sectors. He previously served as the Associate Director, Human Resources at the Rockefeller Foundation a respected one hundred and two-year-old global philanthropic organization, whose mission is to promote the well-being of humanity throughout the world via building resilience and advancing inclusive economies. Prior to joining the Rockefeller Foundation, Juan was the Director of Human Resources at the Foundation Center, the leading source of information about philanthropy worldwide. He is also the president of the Human Resources Professional Association of Nonprofit Organizations (better known as HR PANO), which is dedicated to advancing proficiency in the human resources field for its members and their organizations within the nonprofit community. Juan received his BBA degree from Baruch College.

Juanito Vargas

Juanito Vargas joined Safe Horizon in 2012. Juanito is responsible for the overall management of Safe Horizon's Anti-Trafficking Program, Community Programs, SafeChat, and Hotlines. Juanito's career encompasses a wide range of experiences including working with adults with chronic mental health issues and survivors of childhood sexual abuse to call centers, substance abuse, and mental health clinics as well as psychiatric mobile crisis teams and in behavioral health managed care. He received an MSW from the Fordham University School of Social Service and a BA in Psychology from Lehman College, City University of New York.

Kelly Coyne

Kelly Coyne joined Safe Horizon in 2013 as the Director of Domestic Violence Shelter Prelude House. She became Deputy Chief Program Officer in 2019. Kelly leads program operations and ensures that services integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered, and anti-oppressive lens while spearheading quality assurance and improvement efforts. She has over 19 years of experience working to end domestic violence in the lives of families in a variety of leadership positions. Kelly has specialized experience working with survivors of domestic violence and their children who are living in a domestic violence shelter. She serves on the Board of the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence and is currently the Board Vice-Chair. Kelly was appointed to the Governor's Domestic Violence Taskforce in 2019. She received an MBA from Queens University, an MS in Higher Education from Appalachian State University.

Kristina Coleman

Kristina Coleman joined Safe Horizon in 2022. She previously worked as a Program Director at Children's Village. As the Vice President of Child Advocacy and Mental Health Programs, Kristina is responsible for overseeing all five Child Advocacy Centers (CACs), the Counseling Center, and the Child Trauma Response Team (CTRT) program. She has over 13 years of experience working within child welfare systems and has played a key role in advocating for changes in polices that impact thousands of children and their families. As an advocate for youth, Kristina continues to educate on prevention and reunification for children and their families. She received a Master's in Public Administration from Hunter College, a Master's in Social Work from Hunter College Silberman School of Social work, and a LMSW from Hunter College.

Laura Davies

Laura Davies joined Safe Horizon as Chief Development Officer in 2021. She was previously Safe Horizon's Manager of Corporate Partnerships for five years and led all aspects of corporate and community fundraising. Prior to re-joining Safe Horizon in 2021, Laura served as Managing Director of Development and External Affairs at the Women's Prison Association (WPA), the nation's first organization for women impacted by incarceration. During her tenure at WPA, the fundraising and communications team doubled private revenue, launched a new brand and website, and built a pipeline of sustainable support. Laura began her career in advertising and held progressive leadership roles at various agencies. She is the recipient of the 2015 NonProfit PRO Rising Star award. Laura received a BA in English from Pennsylvania State University.

Liz Roberts began her tenure as CEO of Safe Horizon in February 2021, following a national search. Liz is a social worker with more than thirty years of experience addressing the needs of survivors of violence and abuse. She first joined Safe Horizon as Chief Program Officer in 2010 and served as Deputy CEO from 2014 to 2020. During her tenure at Safe Horizon, Liz was instrumental in launching several innovative programs, while establishing field-leading training, supervision, and quality improvement systems. Under her leadership, the organization nearly doubled its budget and secured the 2018 New York Non-Profit Excellence Award. Previously, Liz served as a Deputy Commissioner for the New York City Administration for Children's Services, where she developed innovative preventive programs; improved the child welfare system's response to domestic violence, mental illness, and substance abuse; and was the founding chair of the agency's first Task Force on Racial Equity and Cultural Competence. Earlier in her career, Liz provided direct services to children and adults affected by violence and abuse as a grassroots shelter and hotline worker, children's advocate, and trauma therapist. She is a national expert in addressing the intersection of domestic violence and child abuse from a survivor-centered perspective and has held teaching roles at the Columbia University School of Social Work and Wheelock College. She is a graduate of the Belle and George Strell Executive Leadership Program at the Silberman School of Social Work, and a 2017 recipient of the 50 over 50 Award from New York Non-Profit Media. She has presented widely on child abuse and domestic violence, co-authored numerous articles in academic journals, and been quoted in numerous media outlets, including Good Morning America, National Public Radio, the New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. Liz received an MSW from Salem State University and a BA in Social Anthropology from Harvard/Radcliffe.

Luke Sarsfield joined the Board in 2018. He is Global Co-Head of Goldman Sachs Asset Management's client business, with global sales and client relationship management responsibility for the firm's institutional and retail client assets. Maureen Curtis

Maureen Curtis joined Safe Horizon in 1986. She has over 30 years of experience working in the field of victimization and has extensive knowledge of victims' rights within the criminal justice system. Maureen is responsible for development and oversight of Safe Horizon's Criminal Justice Programs with a staff of more than 200 co-located in family court, criminal court, Family Justice Center, Supervised Visitation Program and precinct locations city-wide and manages a budget of more than 20 million. She has designed and provided training for law enforcement and community members on topics such as victim safety, offender accountability, housing options, and the criminal justice response to domestic violence. Her experience working in NYPD precincts led to an expansion of programs and creation of the Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) that places Advocates in every NYC police precinct and provides services to all victims of crime. Maureen has been instrumental in creating and introducing new practices for Safe Horizon staff in their work with clients, including training for supervisors in the implementation of client-centered practice, and providing support and guidance to help staff develop their skills and enhance their knowledge. She received her social work degree from Hunter College and her Master's in Public Health from Hunter College.

Megan Driscoll

Megan Driscoll joined the Board in 2022. She is currently CEO and Founder at EvolveMKD, an award-winning public relations and digital marketing agency based in New York City. Megan was previously President at Behrman Communications and has held senior positions at Emanate PR, Lippe Taylor, Fleishman Hillard, and Euro RSCG Life. She has been featured on Crain's 2021 New York Notable Women Business Owners List, PRWeek's 40 Under 40 List, and was honored as one of the Ernst and Young Entrepreneurial Winning Women Class of 2018. Michael previously served as deputy general counsel of Phoenix House Foundation and as assistant corporation counsel for the New York City Law Department. He also serves as chair of the board of New York Peace Institute, a spin-off of Safe Horizon. Michael is admitted to practice in the State of New York. He received a JD from Brooklyn Law School and a BA in Sociology from Tufts University.

Michael Polenberg

Michael is responsible for directing the agency's legislative and budget advocacy on both the state and local levels. He also oversees Safe Horizon's legal services programs, including the Domestic Violence Law Project and the Immigration Law Project, which together provide expert legal assistance to many hundreds of crime victims each year. Michael draws on his 20 years of advocacy work in New York to ensure that our laws explicitly help victims of crime find safety and begin to heal. He also fights for millions of dollars in public funding to sustain programs helping victims of child abuse, domestic violence, human trafficking, and sexual assault. Michael's connections in and out of government increase Safe Horizon's profile and raise public awareness of the needs of crime victims. Michael received a BA in History from the University of Wisconsin/Madison.

Michelle M. Lawrence first joined Safe Horizon in 2014. She became the Director of Anti-Racism Organizational Development in 2018. Michelle plays a leading role in Safe Horizon's work to address systemic racism and move us towards being a more racially equitable and inclusive workplace and organization. She is part of our Anti-Racism Steering Committee, and works closely with internal working groups and affinity groups in developing and coordinating an annual action plan, leading conversations about racism throughout the organization, and partnering with external consultants to further our work to create lasting, measurable change. Michelle continues her Anti-Racism education by being an active member of the Mary Pender Greene's Executives Undoing Racism since 2018 and attending similar spaces. She was selected to part of New York Nonprofit Selection Committee 2019 Excellence Awards for her DEI expertise. Michelle completed the New York City Racial Equity Labs with Race Forward in 2019. She has been working for over 18 years in the domestic violence field and was previously the Childcare Center Supervising Coordinator for our Domestic Violence Shelter Administration Program. Michelle received a BA in Human Services with a concentration in Child Welfare from New York City College of Technology.

Olga Rodriguez-Vidal is the Vice President of Domestic Violence Shelter Operations. Olga obtained her Bachelor's in Psychology and then went on to obtain her Master's in Public Administration while simultaneously working in the Human Services field with vulnerable populations. As a Feminist, Olga has always been passionate about women's rights and helping women and children who experienced abuse. Working as a Domestic Violence advocate was a natural career path. Olga has been with Safe Horizon for over 13 years in the shelter programs first as a shelter Director, then an Associate Vice President and now as the Vice President. Olga is proud to work at Safe Horizon and to continue the very important work of providing safe spaces for survivors and their children.

Pamela Ellermann

Pamela Ellermann joined Safe Horizon's fundraising team in 2017. Pamela has over a decade of experience in institutional partnerships, with a focus on collaborative program development and design to advance innovations in the sector. Pamela has dedicated her career to the field of survivor advocacy and resource development. She previously worked at Women Against Abuse, the largest domestic violence agency in Pennsylvania. She has volunteered as a victim advocate with the Crime Victims Treatment Center to provide support to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in emergency rooms in New York City. Pamela received a BA in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.

Pamela N. Hootkin joined the Board in 2005. She is a retired financial executive. Until April 2012, she was Senior Vice President, Treasurer, and Investor Relations of Phillips-Van Heusen Corporation. Paul Germain joined the Board in 2010. He is currently the President of Stone Ridge Asset Management. Paul previously served as Treasurer on the Executive Committee of the Brooklyn Heights Synagogue, and currently sits on the Parents Leadership Board at Emory University. He holds a master's in business administration from Harvard Business School and a bachelor's degree from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Rich joined the Board in 2016. He is the Regional Managing Director for North America for the Forensic Investigations and Intelligence practice at Kroll. Rich was formerly Deputy Criminal Justice Coordinator for the Mayor of the City of New York and served as an Assistant District Attorney for the District Attorney of New York County. He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Duke University and a juris doctorate from Harvard Law School.

Samuel Saunders joined Safe Horizon in 2020 as the Vice President of Real Estate, Purchasing, and Facility Property Management. Samuel leads the team responsible for the management of more than 50 agency facilities, including nine residential shelters, over 30 individual residential units, and multiple office sites. Samuel is responsible for the leasing, renovation, construction, and build-out of office and residential property. Through past roles at the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services and Operation Hope, Samuel has dedicated much of his career to advancing real estate initiatives for people in need. Samuel joins Safe Horizon with 17 years of experience working in real estate. Samuel received a BA in Business Administration from Pace University, New York.

Sonia Sande

Sunny Hostin joined the Board in 2017. The Emmy-nominated co-host of The View and Emmy-winning Senior Legal Correspondent for ABC News has brought clarity and context to some of the biggest stories of the past decade. Sunny began her career as an appellate law clerk and quickly rose among the ranks to become a trial attorney for the Justice Department and a federal prosecutor, where she was awarded the Special Achievement Award for her prosecution of child sexual predators. Prior to joining The View, she served as a legal analyst and host for CNN from 2007 to 2016. Sunny holds her juris doctorate from Notre Dame Law School. She has a new book out called Summer on the Bluffs.

Susan Reid

Susan Reid joined the Board in 2022. Susan has years of experience in Human Resources and Recruitment and has previously held senior positions at Marsh and McLennan, Donnelley, Bell Atlantic (Verizon), and NYU. Umar Haider

Umar Haider joined the Board in 2021. He is a Managing Director and Partner at Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Umar is a leader within the Consumer Practice focused on strategy, growth, and commercial topics with Consumer Goods clients. He is also responsible for recruiting within the BCG New York office. Prior to joining BCG, Umar worked at PepsiCo International for 4 years. He holds a master's in business administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a bachelor's degree from Davidson College where he majored in history. Umar lives in New York City with his wife Judith and two sons.

Vagnes De La Rosa joined Safe Horizon in 2014. Vagnes has over a decade of management experience in the non-profit sector, specializing in youth development and leadership programs. Vagnes was previously a deputy director of the Sports and Arts in Schools Foundation, where he was responsible for 24 college readiness programs. He has also worked as a management consultant, trainer and motivational speaker. Vagnes is passionate about working with the community, especially for those who sometimes need a little extra support. He received a MPA in Non-Profit Management from Baruch College's School of Public Affairs and a BA in Psychology from the University of Rochester.
