Blake Stayton

Blake grew up in a construction family and his first job as a teenager was carrying shingles up a ladder for his grandfather's roofing crews. By the time he graduated high school he took over the responsibilities of project manager and was tasked with making sure the family business was organized, the customers were satisfied, and payments were received in a timely fashion. After graduating college he pivoted from Law School and accepted a position as an Assistant Project Manager with a Top 30 GC in the United States and began working on a $50 million dollar emergency COVID Relief hospital for the US Corps of Engineers that had a 28 day start to finish duration. After that he worked on a $300 million dollar Distribution facility for FedEx's World HQ in Memphis TN. He then moved on to Knoxville TN to work on a $250 million dollar sortation facility for Amazon. Blake joined the SCG team in June of 2022 with a strong skill set that includes creating and maintaining project schedules, monitoring and checking work for quality as set forth in specifications, and communicating and documenting project status with clients/GC's, and team building/leadership.

Chris Franks - President

Chris began working as a laborer and built his first sports field in 2002 at his high school. He developed a passion for sports construction after learning the intricacies of building a field and then getting to play on it. From there, he joined a traveling crew during the summer months while completing high school and college. Chris earned degrees in Business Finance and Business Management from Loyola College in Maryland. He worked as a project engineer at Whiting-Turner Contracting Company in Baltimore, Maryland from 2007-2008. Rejoining the company in 2008, his experience in the construction industry has played a major role in the successful completion of multiple major projects, one of which being the New York Yankee's new stadium where he was the project superintendent. Currently, Chris is the President and manages all sales, estimating, construction, project management, and customer service teams. Chris is a member of the American Sports Builders Association and the Sports Turf Managers Association. He is a Certified Field Builder recognized by the ASBA. Chris is a minority owner of the company.

Chris McGill

Chris joined SCG over 11 years ago with a strong leadership, team building, and construction background. An athlete in both football and baseball, he understands the demands of owners, athletic directors, and coaches seeking knowledge and quality products. After five years in the United States Army Signal Corps, he owned and operated several successful businesses in Florida before moving into the Sports Industry. Chris managed and supervised the construction of a Sports Academy while scouting for MLB and Division I baseball programs. Naturally, he secured lasting relationships with local to national colleges and universities. With his drive and high integrity, Chris became an integral leader in sales, construction, and operations for SCG Fields. He is proud of the work his team put in at The Ballparks of the Palm Beaches for the Astros and Nationals and The Atlanta Braves Spring Training Facility. Chris is OSHA 30 certified and a member of CFSTMA (Central Florida Sports Turf Managers).

Dan Peyton

Dan began working at SCG as a project management intern over summers while studying at Ohio State. After his first summer working in the industry, Dan found that he wanted to further pursue this line of work in developing and installing sports fields. He joined SCG full time in 2018 upon graduating from Ohio State with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. He took on the role as a Regional Construction Manager in the Great Lakes Region, where Dan has been involved on many projects including Louisville City FC Soccer Stadium and Hurlburt Air Force Base Field. Dan now has the role of Assistant Director of Operations.

Daniel C. McSwain - VP of Sales

Derrick Sickles

Derrick came to SCG over four years ago, with a substantial background in highway and civil construction. He started with SCG as an operator and then quickly transitioned to superintendent. Over the last four years, he has helped complete the spring training facilities for Atlanta Braves, The Ball Park of the Palm beaches, completed the Minnesota United FC MLS Stadium along with various other college and high school multi-purpose fields. In early 2020, he again progressed to the position of Regional Director of Operations for the Great Lakes Region. He is OSHA 30 certified. He oversees and manages all projects in his assigned region, provides extraordinary leadership, and is responsible for managing the regional team of construction managers, project administrators and project superintendents. Derrick is industrious and determined to oversee and deliver quality services to customers and stakeholders. Derrick enjoys spending time with his family, avid sports fan and visiting his childhood family farm in Southeastern Ohio.

Doug Burns

George Pfeffer

After graduating with a degree in architecture, George started working in site construction in 1979 as an estimator and project manager. After joining S.W. Franks Construction (a predecessor firm to SCG Fields) in 1991, George was heavily involved in the transformation of that firm from a heavy site/civil contractor to a specialty sports field systems contractor in the mid-1990's. He was also instrumental in the transition of S.W. Franks into a division of Southwest Recreational Industries (SRI) in 1998. George then became one of the originating partners and principals of Sports Construction Group when it was formed in 2004. George is a registered Architect in the State of Ohio and a licensed General Contractor in the State of Florida. Today George continues in a senior advisory role for design, estimating, and project management functions at Sports Contracting Group, LLC / SCG Fields, LLC.

Helen Krems

Helen has been with SCG Fields since 2017 and has been involved in the construction industry for over 20 years. Her previous construction experience and attention to detail is integral to SCG's overall success. As a Project Administrator, she is responsible for issuing purchase orders and subcontracts, and tracking project expenses. Helen is an excellent bridge between field personnel and the project management team in the office. Her personal skills and ability to communicate make her an important piece to our project team.

Jon Dostal - CFO

Jon started as Controller at SCG Fields in November 2020. He brings with him over 20 years of experience in accounting from various industries. In his role at SCG, Jon oversees all aspects of the Company's daily accounting, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, as well as maintaining its operating policies and procedures. Prior to beginning his tenure at SCG, Jon spent over a decade as a controller for companies involved in the development and construction of affordable housing and retail real estate management. Jon began his career working in public accounting in the Akron/Canton area, serving clients primarily in the wholesale distribution and construction industries with all facets of their audit, accounting and tax matters. Jon received his degree in Accounting from Kent State University. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Kennedy Gilmore

kevin pfeffer

Kevin began his career at SCG as a laborer and surveyor's assistant during breaks from college. Upon graduating from Bowling Green State University in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in Construction Management and Technology, he joined SCG full-time as an estimator and project manager. For several years Kevin managed all estimating and project management for the synthetic turf division prior to transitioning to construction operations management. Then, Kevin served as a Regional Construction Manager for the Great Lakes division. He managed daily construction operations of projects within the region. Kevin holds OSHA 30, CPR / AED, and First Aid certifications. Now, Kevin takes on the role of Project Manager.

Matt Myer

Matt graduated from The Ohio State University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Strategic Communication. He began working in the construction industry in 2015, and came to SCG Fields in 2018, where he started as an Assistant Estimator. During this time, he became familiar and proficient with the natural grass and synthetic turf field building processes. In 2019, he took on the job title and responsibilities of an Estimator and Project Manager and has played significant roles in the successful completion of numerous projects, including the Baltimore Orioles Ed Smith Sports Complex in Sarasota, Florida. Matt is directly and heavily involved in the estimating and pre-construction processes, and he works closely with the entire project team.

Mike Swan

Mike joined SCG in 2015 as a project manager and estimator after serving in the same role for a Cleveland based heavy highway contractor. He has worked in and around heavy construction all his life and obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration from Kent State University. Mike has been a key component in the success of many high-profile projects including the Atlanta Braves Spring Training Facility in North Port, Florida. Today, he puts his experience to good use as VP of Internal Operations at SCG. In this role, he is tasked with overseeing all aspects of the estimating, preconstruction, and project management team. The primary objective of his group is to ensure all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest of industry standards.

Nick Pappas

After graduating with a degree in Education from the University of Akron in 2011, Nick started his professional career in the classroom as a Mathematics and Social Studies teacher. He remains active in high school athletics as a coach and referee but made the transition to the construction world in 2018. Nick holds the position of Project Manager at SCG Fields. In this roles, he works closely with all members of the project team from project start-up to final close-out. His roles include project set-up and material procurement, coordinating purchase orders and subcontractors, manhour and material tracking for active projects, and project close-out and turnover. He enjoys working within a team setting and finds field building to be very rewarding work.

Paul Franks

Paul transformed a Heavy Highway contracting firm to a sports field specific design and construction company. While constructing many local high school tracks and fields, in the mid 1980's he began constructing synthetic turf playing field systems. In the early 1990's, many professional teams began building new stadiums featuring high performance natural turf systems with vertical drainage. His first professional stadium project was Jacobs Field for the Cleveland Indians which then led to additional opportunities to expand on a national level. Several years later, Paul helped design and build one of the first heated playing field systems. As a pioneer in this industry, he has developed respect with all the key players in the industry because of his deep knowledge and valuable experience. He is called on by many firms to consult and render his opinion as to the intricacies in field construction and development. Paul has worked with elite sports organizations like the New York Yankees, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, Houston Texans, and many more.

Steve Hines

Steve graduated from Bowling Green State University with his accounting degree and began his career in public accounting. Steve spent much of his career filling essential accounting roles in retail shopping center development and property management. Steve worked to assist in the ongoing construction financing of retail projects valued up to $100M and also provided direct client service in his property management role managing rents, expenses and property transactions for retail centers having monthly rent rolls over $100K. Steve has been with SCG fields since 2016 as Assistant Controller serving in all accounting functions.
