Dr Anne McDonnell

Dr Anne McDonnell qualified from Trinity College Dublin BA MB BCH BAO. Her post graduate qualifications include Diploma in Child Health, NUI, Diploma in Obstetrics, NUI, Diploma in Mental Health with distinction, QUB. She gained membership of the Royal College of General Practice, Irish college of General Practice and Royal College of Psychiatrists. She was appointed as a consultant in General Adult Psychiatry with specialist interest in liaison psychiatry in 2001 and has worked in the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust since then. She has a very broad experience of general adult psychiatry working in inpatient and outpatient services. She has an interest in education and training and is a member of School of Psychiatry at NIMDTA. ( Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Association.) Dr Carol Weir

Carol Weir is a member of the Clinical Division of the British Psychological Society, she is an Associate Fellow of the society and is a Chartered Psychologist. As well as clinical training she has a PhD where the focus was on Addiction assessment and treatment. More recently she undertook specialised training in Clinical Neuropsychology at Glasgow University Medical Faculty and was awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Neuropsychology (2008) Her area of expertise is Addiction - alcohol - prescribed and illegal drugs and gambling. Also she undertakes Neuropsychological cases. She has been providing Medico-legal reports over the past 15 years and has appeared as a Professional Witness on many occasions. She joined Malone Medical Chambers in 2007 where she sees medico-legal clients. Cases typically involve Addiction to Alcohol, Drugs, Gambling, Family Cases where alcohol/drug abuse is one of the issues in parents/carers. Also Neuropsychological cases where brain injury has occurred.

Dr Catherine Mangan

Dr Catherine Mangan, MB BCh BAO MRCPsych, is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist based in the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. She graduated in Medicine from Queen's University, Belfast in 1991. Catherine has specialist training and qualifications in child and adolescent mental health and holds qualifications in cognitive behavioural therapy and family therapy. Catherine has extensive experience working with a wide range of childhood and teenage difficulties including forensic and medico-legal complications. Catherine has lectured at Queen's University, Belfast for the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology, Masters of Educational Psychology, and Applied Social Learning Theory Courses. Catherine has appeared on TV and radio programmes to discuss mental health issues in childhood and adolescence and to promote positive mental health. She acts as an expert witness for children and family issues within the Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland Court and legal system. Catherine is married with two children. Dr Deborah Walton

Dr Walton is based in Northern Ireland but works with people and orgranisations throughout the UK. She provides a calm, supportive and professional service, working with the individual to identify and apply the right approach to make things better. Dr Walton has a Masters in Applied Psychology from the University of Ulster and was awarded a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology by the University of Manchester. She is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychology Society and a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Care Professionals Council. She works both within the public and private healthcare sectors. She works primarily with adults and young people with mental health difficulties. This includes anxiety, depression, OCD, Eating Disorders, Psychosis and attachment difficulties. Her particular interest is in people who have experienced trauma (Post-traumatic Stress Disorder). Dr Fiona McCartan

Dr McCartan has been working as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) within the NHS since February 2010. She is the Clinical Lead for a local CAMHS Crisis Resolution Service and has been involved in service developments in this area. She also has been involved in the development of Forensic CAMHS services within Northern Ireland. Dr McCartan has extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of mental health problems affecting children and young people. In addition to her specialist training and expertise in Forensic Mental Health and Specialist Risk Assessment, she has previously worked for 5 years within Woodlands Juvenile Justice Centre. Having completed both her ADOS and DISCO training and working with young people with ASD as part of her daily practice, she also have extensive experience and expertise in both the assessment and management of ASD and its co-morbidities.

Dr M S Tareen

Dr Tareen is a Consultant Psychiatrist to Holywell Hospital Antrim and Whiteabbey Hospital. He has been practising psychiatry locally and internationally since 1995. He is registered with the GMC (GMC No: 5204451) and is on the specialist register for General Adult Psychiatry. He is member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Medical Protection Society. Dr Tareen is Clinical Lead of one of the Community Mental Health Teams and has a special interest in treatment for psychological trauma, depression, social anxiety, panic attacks, obsessive behaviours and work related stress. His other work includes treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder and other forms of psychosis. He is Lead Psychiatrist for the adult autistic spectrum diagnostic service in the Northern Trust. He uses Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma treatments. He also provides enabling short term therapies. He successfully ran an international project on trauma treatment as a capacity building initiative for developing countries. Dr Tareen offers private assessments and treatment at Malone Medical Chambers. Initial assessment lasts 50 minutes. Subsequent appointments are 20-30 minutes. He also provides a second opinion for other mental health practitioners and medico legal report writing.

Neill Thompson trained at the Queen's University of Belfast Medical School graduating in 1990. After training on the Belfast surgical rotation he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS Ed) in 1994. Subsequent full time research in the Queen's University Department in Musgrave Park Hospital led to a Doctorate of Medicine by thesis (MD) awarded by the Queen's University of Belfast in 1999. Towards the end of his postgraduate clinical training he completed the intercollegiate exam in Trauma and Orthopaedics (FRCS Tr&Orth) in 2001. He spent six months in an Orthopaedic Fellowship at the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Hospital, Owestry, England with training in hand and shoulder surgery. He was subsequently awarded the British Orthopaedic Association Zimmer Travelling Fellowship and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Ethicon Foundation Travelling Fellowship. Mr R J Barr

After qualifying MB BCh BAO from the Queen's University of Belfast in 1982 John Barr went on to complete both general surgical and orthopaedic training in Northern Ireland. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS Ed) in 1986. He was then awarded his certificate for completion of training in Orthopaedic surgery in October 1992. He completed a Doctorate of Medicine by thesis (MD), awarded (from QUB) in 1993. In 1993 he gained further surgical experience in bone and soft tissue sarcoma surgery and arthroplasty at the prestigious Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham (UK). There followed a travelling scholarship to the USA where he visited centres of excellence managing tumours, trauma and arthroplasty. He met and observed the work of world renowned figures in orthopaedics, sarcoma and trauma including Drs Henry Mankin, Bill Enneking and Andrew Burgess (from Boston, Gainesville and Baltimore respectively) On returning to NI he was appointed Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon to the Royal Victoria and Musgrave Park Hospitals, Belfast in April 1994. Since then his clinical workload has spanned the generality of both elective and traumatic musculoskeletal conditions (including spine). He has extensive experience in the management of multiple injuries, long-bone fractures, peri-articular fractures and lower limb arthroplasty. He has established a Sarcoma service and has remained actively involved in the management of major musculoskeletal trauma, metastatic bone disease and hip replacement surgery. Locally he is Lead Clinician for the Fracture Outcomes Unit. Nationally he is on the steering group of the National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD). He is a recognized appraiser for the Belfast Trust and has completed many appraisals for Consultant and other colleagues preparing for revalidation. He was appointed to the Intercollegiate Board of Examiners for the specialty examination FRCS (T&Orth) in 2003. He has since attended many examinations throughout the UK and Ireland. Mr. Maurice O'Flaherty is a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon, specialising in Trauma surgery, Sports injuries and the surgical treatment of all foot and ankle conditions. Having graduated in Medicine from Queens University Belfast in 2002, he went on to follow a surgical career path, gaining a place on the Northern Ireland Orthopaedic Higher Surgical Training scheme in 2007. He obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (Trauma & Orthopaedics) in 2012 and went on to take up a place on the prestigious Surrey Foot and Ankle Fellowship in London for a period of one year. It was here that he spent time furthering his skills in foot and ankle surgery under the guidance of Mr. Anthony Sakellariou (Current President of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society) and Mr. Matthew Solan. Mr. O'Flaherty also graduated from the University of Bath in England, gaining a Masters of Science degree in Sports & Exercise Medicine. He spent time training with doctors and allied health professionals from all aspects of sport and exercise medicine, including Premier League Football and Rugby Union. As a result, he has a wide understanding of the injuries sustained by professional and recreational athletes alike, and their treatment. He is a Consultant in the Royal Victoria Hospital and Musgrave Park Hospital Belfast. He is a member of the on-call Trauma team in the Royal Victoria Hospital, runs a regular fracture clinic and carries out regular trauma surgery.
