Abdulla Waris - Chief Legal Officer

Waris is the head of the firm's legal advisory services and his practice encompasses advising clients on foreign investment, corporate and taxation matters. He previously headed the Legal Division of the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority and acted as lead counsel in advising the MIRA's operational divisions with regard to tax law interpretation, tax rulings, enforcement proceedings, audit, investigation and criminal prosecution matters, and drafting of tax legislations. He has also represented the MIRA as the lead counsel in court proceedings in the Supreme Court of the Maldives, Tax Appeal Tribunal and other courts and has played a crucial part in securing a number of landmark appellate victories on tax cases at High Court that has shaped the Maldivian taxation regime. He is a Licensed Notary Public in the Maldives having Permit Number PN-2019-09. Waris holds a double degree in Arts and Law from Mysore University, India. Waris focuses on corporate matters, mostly, on resort and hotel acquisitions, projects and infrastructure. He has headed the legal section of the tax authority and has acted as a local law expert in arbitration cases.

Ahmed Thaail

Aishath Lamya Aslam

Lamya takes a keen interest in alternative dispute resolution, in particular, international arbitration. Lamya's contributions to our firm include primarily assisting lawyers to attend to court cases and conducting legal research.

Ali Muraadh

Muraadh specialises in all areas of taxation with a particular focus on advising clients on tax impacts of complex high-dollar transactions. His expertise in advising clients on debt restructuring, financing structures and project acquisitions are notable.

Ali Naeem - CEO

Job Titles:

Ali specialises in tax disputes, investigations and litigation. He acts for both corporate and individual clients and frequently advises law firms and other professional firms on contentious tax matters and disputes. Prior to joining CTL, he worked at the MIRA and was directly involved in handling tax disputes and has represented MIRA at Tax Appeal Tribunal and courts on various tax disputes. Ali holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of London, and Bachelor of International Business from Charles Stuart University of Australia. Ali advises clients in a wide range of corporate matters, including inbound investments, with a focus on tax aspects of the transactions. Ali advises audit firms and local law firms on various contentious tax issues.

Fathuhulla Ismail - Chief Legal Officer

Fathuhulla is a Licensed Notary Public in the Maldives and is licensed to practice at the Supreme Court of the Maldives. He is also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), and a member of the Statutory Committee on Law Reform and Research of the Bar Council of Maldives.

Husam Shareef

Husam's background is in taxation and public policy. Prior to starting his own tax practice, Husam worked at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority where he was responsible for drafting tax legislation, tax rulings and advising the management on technical issues. At CTL Strategies Husam is involved in tax advisory, planning and controversy involving transfer pricing and cross-border issues. Husam worked for the President's Office as an Under Secretary at the Policy Office, and he chaired the government's Tax Reform Committee, playing a key role in the tax reform agenda. Husam was also instrumental in the formulation of policies on the proposed income tax regime. He holds a masters degree in Governance and Public Policy from the University of Queensland, Australia and a bachelor's degree in Economics from the International Islamic University, Malaysia. Husam advises clients on all aspects of tax planning and controversy, representing several multinational companies in tax disputes. He concentrates his practice on tax efficient business formations and acquisitions.

Hussain Zameel

Ibrahim Mohamed

Mariyam Naufa
