Ackert Hall 19, Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS
We are a microbiology lab housed in Ackert Hall of Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas under the leadership of Dr. Thomas G Platt, an assistant professor of biology. Our lab consists of both graduate and undergraduate students all working to uncover the mysteries of pathogenic evolution, quorum sensing, cooperative parthenogenesis, and much more. While our bacteria cultures grow in incubators, our team grows their culture outside of the lab. We scientists are dedicated to both bacteria and fun, meeting often for movie nights, karaoke, and pool parties. There are only two truths at the Platt Lab, science is cool and so are we... We study the ecological and genetic factors influencing the evolution of facultative bacterial pathogens as well as the disease ecology consequences of these dynamics. Our approach integrates theoretical and quantitative ecology and evolution with microbial genetics using the plant pathogen Agrobacterium tumefaciens as a model.
