Founded in 1949 by William Walker, the company that bears his name originally served the logging industry. By 1960 the road haulage company was running five vehicles and as the workload increased in the early 70's, both sons joined the operation and a further three trucks were added to the fleet. Mr Walker senior passed away in 2001 and the company is now jointly owned and run by his sons Bill and Jim Walker. Jim's son Grant also works in the traffic office. The company has matured into a highly successful road haulage firm and couriers with a good reputation amongst customers and competitors alike. Today, William Walker Transport operates a fleet of 20 vehicles and 30 trailers which it uses to provide a comprehensive local and long-haul distribution service, with the offshore oil industry accounting for around 90 per cent of its total business.
