LELAPA

Lelapa, which means ‘the home' was established in October 1999 in Langa, Cape Town's oldest township (or informal settlement), when Sheila and Monica Mahloane (mother and daughter) converted our home in order to seize an entrepreneurial opportunity. We saw all the tourists' buses driving past our township on the way to the winelands and our idea was to create a restaurant serving traditional township cuisine and invite guests to experience a bit of township life... Lelapa specialises in traditional township dishes, made with fresh local ingredients and a lot of love. Below are some examples of what to expect from our buffet... In the beginning, our restaurant seating capacity was just 25. In 2001 the name, Lelapa become known and we captured the attention of international chefs and food critics including Brian Turner of Carlton food network, who worked with us in our restaurant.
