Dr. John S. Kung

John S. Kung, MD, FAAO, FICS - is the Surgeon Director of the group. He has invented and licensed a surgical instrument - the Kung Guide - utilized by his fellow ophthalmologists performing vision correction surgery. He is an expert on laser eye surgery, PRK, LASIK, Astigmatism correction and excimer laser vision correction. He has trained extensively and regularly provides the latest treatments for cataracts, advanced intraocular lens implants, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration. He was selected by the New York Times as a "SuperDoctor" (top 5% in the NY area, nominated by other doctors) and by Castle Connolly as a "Top Doctor", one of the few to be on both lists.Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and the National Board of Medical Examiners, Dr. John S. Kung is highly knowledgeable in the field of Ophthalmology, serving patients in Staten Island and New Jersey. He is a summa cum laude, valedictorian-nominated graduate of the City College of New York. He became a distinguished graduate of Mt. Sinai School of Medicine where he earned a special designation with distinction in research. He served his residency and chief residency in ophthalmology at Columbia University - Presbyterian Medical Center, Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute, whose mission is to train the future leaders of Ophthalmology. He completed a postgraduate fellowship in cornea, refractive and anterior segment surgery at Raritan Bay Medical Center. He has an additional postgraduate certification in retinal diseases. He has been a consultant to many companies including Novartis, Allergan, Alcon and Pharmacia. He is the author of A Patient's Guide to LASIK on laser vision correction and has published many articles on eye diseases and surgical techniques. Dr. Kung is a frequent instructor in new techniques for eye surgery and often has other doctors referring difficult cases while coming to the OR to observe his techniques. He lectures nationally and internationally on eye diseases and surgical procedures and has provided care to the underserved on mission trips abroad. Dr. John S. Kung is active in many professional societies. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Board of Ophthalmology, the American College of Eye Surgeons, the International Society for Refractive Surgery, the New York State Ophthalmological Society and the New Jersey Academy of Ophthalmology. In his spare time, he enjoys travel with his family, tennis and reads widely on many topics.

Janna Chen

Janna Chen, OD- earned her bachelor degree from State University of New York at Binghamton and has received her Doctorate of Optometry from the State University of New York, College of Optometry. Dr. Chen has received extensive training in the diagnosis and management of ocular disease and disorders of the visual system. Janna Chen completed her residency certification at Seidenberg Protzko Eye Associates in Bel Air, Maryland and received training in primary and pediatric care as well as preoperative and postoperative care in a variety of surgical procedures. She also served as sub-investigator of several national research studies during the residency. Dr. Chen joined the practice in 2006, focusing on ocular disease management and primary eye care. On her spare time, Janna Chen enjoys traveling the world, cycling around the city, and snowboarding during the winter months.

Joshua C. Yu

Joshua C. Yu, MD, FAAO - joined the practice in 2010. He is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist and Cornea Specialist who offers the latest treatment modalities in laser vision correction (LASIK and PRK), cataract surgery, and cornea diseases. He participated as the investigator in numerous research studies and clinical trials. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at many national ophthalmic conferences on cataract surgery and cornea diseases. Dr. Yu graduated with top honors from Cornell University and finished with a top 3 GPA in his class. He went on to receive his medical degree and residency training in ophthalmology from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He scored in the 99 percentile on the ophthalmic knowledge (OKAP) exam among his peers in the nation and was honored with the academic excellence award. He then went to Boston and completed a cornea and refractive surgery fellowship at the Tufts New England Medical Center and Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston, which are one of the leading corneal research and clinical trials center in the country, respectively. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He is currently on the medical staff of Richmond University Medical Center in Staten Island, NY, and St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. Dr. Yu is available for LASIK evaluation, and consultation for treatment of cataract, cornea diseases, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. Dr. Yu speaks fluent Cantonese and Mandarin. Dr. Yu is married to his wife, who is a liver transplant surgeon. He enjoys classical music and has been a wedding pianist for over 10 years.

Nala Shin

Nala Shin, OD - is a Therapeutic Optometrist who manages diabetic eye care, cataract and LASIK co-management, dry eye management and other ocular diseases. Dr. Shin also specialized in fitting specialty contact lenses for patients with irregular corneas such as keratoconus. She graduated with honors at the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She then pursued onto getting a Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Houston. Her year of externships were completed at the Mobile Eye Institute, La Nueva Casa Clinic, Multiple Sclerosis Eye Center and NSU campus. She loves pursuing her passion of optometry and also took part in an eye care mission trip to Central America. When she is not in the office she loves spending time with her family and her Dog, Teddy.

Ryan J. Campbell

Ryan J. Campbell, OD - earned his Bachelor of Science degree from St. John's University and his Doctorate of Optometry from the State University of New York, College of Optometry. He received extensive training in the management of ocular disease, surgicalco-management, as well as pediatric optometry and myopia control through a diverse series of clinical externships. Upon graduating, he was inducted into The Gold Key Society, the highest honor for leadership a student of optometry can receive. In his spare time, Ryan enjoys going on hikes, playing music, and spending time with his family and friends.
