LEATHERWORKS - Key Persons

Duncan Stewart

Duncan Stewart (shown right), the owner of Leatherworks, became interested in horses at a very young age in Southern Africa. He rode with his local pony club and became familiar with horses and their various types of gear. He was introduced to English Saddles early in his youth. Duncan joined the British South Africa Police and was part of their mounted unit. Emigrating to the USA in 1979, Duncan became a US citizen in 1982 and is proud to call America his home. He joined the High Country Hounds fox hunt. Fox hunting became his passion and he became a professional huntsman conducting hunts in Texas, California, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Kansas. Duncan became a proficient saddlemaker, fixing saddles, when he could not find any saddle repair people for English Saddles. English Saddles are a passion with Duncan and he wanted to learn everything could about them. Working along side Tack Etc. in Phoenix and attending a saddle fitting school in New York state, he learned the "ins and outs" of saddle repair and using the Saddle Tech gauge as a fitting tool along with how to re-flock saddles. It is the mission of Duncan and Leatherworks to make the saddle as comfortable for the horse and rider as is possible. Establishing Leatherworks in the Verde Valley of Arizona, Duncan specializes in English Saddle repair and saddle fitting. He takes his mobile van to major ADA shows and does on the spot repairs as well as taking it to client locations for saddle repairs.
