VET PRACTICE SUPPORT - Key Persons

Ana Rita Pires

Since she was a young child, Rita always had a passion for animals and their care, which contributed massively to her decision to become a Vet. She graduated from Lisbon University, Portugal, in 2009. Since then she has worked in several first opinion practices in Portugal then moved to the UK in 2018, where she worked in a Tier 3 hospital, having the chance to follow complex clinical cases. She enjoys all aspects of her job, particularly cardiology and internal medicine and in 2016 she started her studies in cardiology through the ESAVS, completing the Advanced Veterinary Practitioner in 2021 (RCVS CertAVP) and is continuing to work towards further qualifications. She is blessed with the company of a lovely naughty "tortie" named Malu and in her free time enjoys hiking, travelling and photography.

Angela Bodey

Angela qualified from Bristol longer ago than she cares to remember, and worked in mixed practice for the first three years. She then moved to the Royal Veterinary College to do clinical research, wanting a new challenge. It certainly was a challenge, and eventually she gained her PhD, having studied measurement of blood pressure in dogs and cats, and lots of other things that spun off from this! Pretty much since then (about twenty years) she has worked in referral practice, seeing predominantly cardiology cases. She has also been involved in heart testing many Irish wolfhounds, and participated in a clinical study of pneumonia in this breed. Angela really enjoys teaching and mentoring, loves talking to clients, students or anyone who will listen, about ECGs and hearts scans. When away from work, she enjoys walking with her little dog, Miss Matty, and swimming, as well as knitting and time spent with family.

Ben Griffin

Ben qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2001. He started his veterinary career in time-honoured practice by joining a mixed practice on the Isle of Man. It took just 18 months of 3 am calvings and calf beds for him to realise mixed practice was not for him. He fell into emergency and critical care, where he has worked for the last 13 years. He has moved from the person who used the ultrasound "cause no-one else will" to dedicated scanner who now enjoys those more challenging cases. He has seen a massive case load as a ward/emergency vet, and on a peripatetic basis where his main interests revolve around sonography and internal medicine. He is working towards his IVUSS (International Veterinary Ultrasound Society) qualification. In his spare time, Ben enjoys mountain biking, where he can be found at the back, either with a mechanical based mechanical or a human mechanical (normally just plain tired). He fell runs because that's what his mates do and he actually loves fell walking.

Since coming to the UK, she worked in first opinion practice for a year, undertook both the RCVS course in Endoscopy and the AdvantEdge course with VetsNow and worked as emergency vet for almost 2 years. After trying different disciplines, she always had a preference for imaging and decided to do the General Practitioner Certificate in Imaging, finishing in July 2022. When not working, she enjoys her free time dancing, travelling, scuba diving and surfing. She has an adorable dog called Pistacho (photographed here) that loves adventure as much she does.
