Since it's beginning, WCTEL has not only met it's primary goal of providing basic telephone service to its service area, but has also provided the enhanced services that others have come to expect in big cities. WCTEL began providing local access to the Internet in May of 1995, becoming one of the first Rural Telephone Cooperatives to provide this level of access to its subscribers. West Carolina was also one of the first rural telephone companies to provide high speed DSL Internet access in 2000. High Internet speeds are proving to be the technology of the future... WCTEL's subsidiary company, WCFIBER LLC, has expanded into Columbia County, GA, Greenwood, SC, and Newberry, SC offering Internet speeds up to 1 Gbps.
