After earning dual degrees in Electrical Engineering and Liberal Arts from the University of Illinois, I embarked on a career that would lead me through a wide variety of roles with electronics manufacturers and software producers. I grew from board-level circuit designer to system engineer and was eventually promoted to engineering manager. Throughout my engineering career, I had many opportunities to develop my technical writing skills, working on specifications, manuals, reports, proposals, and articles for technical journals... My unique communication and interpersonal skills were soon recognized by my colleagues. I was encouraged to accept more customer-facing responsibilities. In the late 1990's, I moved into sales and marketing, where I used my communication skills to help companies expand their customer base and penetrate new markets.
