EDWARD WORLLEDGE ORMISTON ACADEMY - Key Persons
My name is Joe Waters currently Assistant Principal at Ormiston Venture Academy. This academic year my responsibilities are lead behaviour specialist, line manager for PE and Childcare faculty, and lead of Innovate college. In previous years I have been the lead for student voice working with and developing the Union of Venture Students, ITT professional tutor for various training providers, line manager for Science, and developing a behaviour change intervention programme. I qualified as a PE teacher and have developed my teaching pedagogy and leadership skills whilst at Ormiston Venture Academy to become Assistant principal for the last six years.
The reason I would like this position as Governor at Edward Worlledge Ormiston Academy is that I am passionate about the community I live in and breaking the glass ceiling regarding opportunities for every student that I have the pleasure in working with. I believe that being a governor at Edward Worlledge I could help the academy on its journey to give every student the education they deserve working with the passionate team that is already in place.
On a personal note, I have two young daughters one of which will be starting her education soon and I would like to get a greater understanding of how primary schools function so I can support my girls as best as I can.

I am currently working as a Learning Support Assistant at Edward Worlledge Ormiston Academy. I have always valued the ethos of our academy and have been part of its evolution from a middle school to an all-through primary academy. I have over 15 years' experience in education and have a good knowledge of the curriculum and how to adapt it to meet the needs of all learners. In addition to this, I have led interventions and supported SEND children in making outstanding progress. I am passionate about the incredible children in our community, helping them to work through any barriers to learning they may encounter and in accessing a wide range of opportunities to ensure they make good progress.

I have been a teacher for 14 years and taught across both primary key stages. I have led maths for 6 years but have recently taken on pupil premium lead since returning to Edward Worlledge. I love all things creative; I completed a BA Hons in Graphic Design before doing a PGCE and my ability to think outside of the box has benefited me hugely since working in education. I became a governor because Edward Worlledge is a wonderful to work; the staff and children are like no other and I wanted to be part of improving outcomes for the children, whilst being the voice of the teaching staff.

I've worked in education since 2009, having started my career teaching science in an Ormiston Academy. I have a Masters degree in Educational Leadership, for which I researched the effectiveness of Continuous Professional Development for teachers. I'm currently a manager for an education charity, where my responsibilities include account management of two regional Teaching School Hubs.
