Andrea Carroll

Andrea joined Aaron Optometrists as Strategic Manager in 2005, initially for just one year as she was in the process of relocating, (with husband), to York. However, 12 years down the line, she has remained firmly in place and has become a vital member of the team.

Andrew Watson

Job Titles:
  • IP Optometrist
Andrew joined Aaron Optometrists in 1997. During his time with the company he has developed an interest in all areas of primary eye care from spectacle glazing and ophthalmic dispensing to contact lens practice and optometry. He gained his Fellowship of the Association of British Dispensing Opticians in 1998, and went on to specialise in contact lens practice. Also he holds a First Class Honours Degree in Optometry and is a Member of the College of Optometrists. After studying at Glasgow Caledonian University and working in the Eye Casualty Department of the Royal Victoria infirmary, he also gained Independent Prescribing status. He has supervised both Dispensing and Contact Lens Optician students.

Ann Brierley

Ann Brierly

Ann joined our team in November 2014 as an Optical Assistant after previously working at another Optical group. As well as being an invaluable member of the team front of house, Ann also works in our own glazing lab making up spectacles and carrying out repairs.

Claire Mather

Claire joined Aaron Optometrists in 2010 having had a previous background in optometry. During this time she has qualified as a Dispensing Assistant and is now also a floor manager and an invaluable member of the administration team, along with Karen, sorting out all contact lens and direct debit queries.

Debbie Liu Tam

Job Titles:

Debbie Liu began her career at Aaron Optometrists as a pre-reg in 2007. On qualifying in 2008 she then joined the team as a permanent member of staff. During this time Debbie has seen a lot of pathology and made the decision to further her clinical qualifications; attaining a City & Guilds in Diabetic Retinopathy and becoming an Independent Prescribing Optometrist in June 2015. Both qualifications benefit patient care at a local level; which is something Debbie and Aaron's feel strongly about.

Dr. Peter Frampton

After achieving a BSc in Australian Environmental Studies in 1980, Peter went on to study optometry at QUT Brisbane Australia. BAppSc(Optom) was awarded in 1985. Peter moved to Britain in 1986. After working for the business, Peter took ownership of Aarons in 1993. Peter and Aarons has won numerous awards. Peter was the first ever recipient of ‘Optometrist of the Year', the same night Aarons also won ‘Technology Practice of the Year' Peter Frampton trained as an Optometrist at QUT, Brisbane, Australia; he moved to Britain in... Dr. Peter Frampton (Owner of Aarons) is proud to have been one of the first 30 Optometrists in the UK to become an Independent Prescribing (Medical) Optometrist. The ability to prescribe and treat directly, without a referral, is a fundamental change to clinical care in the community. To enable a complete patient journey, Peter only employs Medical (IP) Optometrists. Aarons remain the only practice in Northumberland to offer continuous access to Medical Optometrists, a valuable service.

Emma Clark

Job Titles:

Emma started working in Optics in 1993. She completed the Optical Assistant's course run through Anglia Polytechnic University in 2000 and has also attained Bronze and Silver levels on an Optical Assistant's course whilst working within another Optical Group.

Gayle Fairbairn

Gayle began at Aaron Optometrists in 1998 as a Glazing Technician and qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 2003. As a dispensing optician she trained to dispense and fit both spectacles and other optical aids, working from the prescriptions written by the optometrists to tailor the dispense to the benefit of the patients lifestyle - a task requiring extensive use of technical expertise and good customer service skills. Gayle undertook further training in Low Vision Rehabilitation in 2006 to be able to advise and assist partially sighted patients maintain their visual independence by correct use of low vision aids. Gayle also obtained the NEBOSH qualification in Health and Safety in the workplace and gained a BA Honours degree from Northumbria University in Business and Leadership Management.

Jamie Robinson

Jamie began working at Aaron Optometrists in July 2010, as a Trainee Optical Laboratory Technician. Gradually building on his experience he is now totally responsible for the day-to-day operation of the lab, which also includes carrying out in-house glazing and repairs as well as dealing with all the jobs which are sent to other glazing facilities. Jamie is now working towards his Level 4 Optical Technician SMC (Tech) qualification from the Association of British Dispensing Opticians college.

Karen Henderson

Job Titles:

Karen started working at Aaron's in August 2007, already having a background in administration in the Health Service. Since being part of the team Karen has attained the status of Optical Assistant, dealing with both clinical and administration work; with a large part of her duties relating to contact lens and direct debit queries. Karen has progressed to Floor Manager and is responsible for the smooth running of the Practice.

Kelly Rutherford

Job Titles:
  • Optical Assistant
Kelly has worked at Aaron Optometrists since September 2006. Since joining she has completed her Optical Assistants course and has also qualified as a Diabetic Retinopathy Screener. While interested in all aspects of the Practice, Kelly is particularly adept at performing advanced clinical techniques, such as Corneal Topography, OCT and photography. She works well as part of the team and changing work schedules never seem to phase her - she is always willing to adapt.

Laura Wood

Laura first started with Aaron Optometrists Limited doing work experience; then became a ‘Saturday Girl' and loved it so much she just refused to leave! After studying at University and achieving a First Class degree in Interior Design, Laura now works with us for our Marketing & PR. Her role includes selecting frames for the practice and the running of social media and the website.

Sam Etterley

Job Titles:
  • Optometrist
Sam visited us in 2018 for work experience and to clarify his choice in studying optometry at university. Fortunately, we must have impressed Sam as he joined Cardiff University in 2019 for his optometry degree. He then came back to us to complete his pre-registration placement in 2022 where he carried out eye examinations, contact lens appointments and dispensing. Sam qualified in November 2023, we are lucky to have him stay with us, where he will then become one of our Resident Optometrists.
