Ken Sanz

Ken Sanz began his law enforcement career in 1973 as an officer with the Tampa, Florida, Police Department and later became a detective assigned to the Vice Control Bureau and the Organized Crime Unit. It was then that Ken began to focus on criminal intelligence in furtherance of an effort to thwart the aggressive emergence of organized crime cartels, gangs and various other criminal networks in the state. It was during this latter assignment that Ken was appointed as a consultant to a State of Florida Subcommittee tasked with drafting the State's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt organization (RICO) Statute. In 1982, Ken began his service as a Special Agent with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Until his retirement in 2007, Ken was actively engaged in the investigation of transnational crime syndicates operating in North and South America, the Caribbean nations, Asia, and Western Europe. As a result of his experience, Ken is an internationally recognized expert in the analysis and investigation of domestic and international criminal enterprises, gangs and extremist organizations. Ken has served as a consultant on criminal intelligence matters for many law enforcement agencies and has held the position of Chairman of the Central Florida Organized Crime Intelligence Group and President of the International Association of Asian Crime Investigations. He is also a member of the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts and the Organized Crime Committee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Having pursued a dual major in Political Science and Criminal Justice at the University of South Florida and now as a Certified Instructor by the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, Ken has instructed for many city, state and federal law enforcement agencies, academies, colleges and universities throughout North America, Europe and Asia. He has also coordinated intelligence seminars for INTERPOL in Lyon, France, and for the joint US/People's Republic of China Organized Crime Conferences on Asian Organized Crime held in Beijing. Ken has also worked with the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP) to develop Criminal Intelligence Training Standards for the municipal and national police services in Columbia, South America.

Steven L. Gottlieb

Steven L. Gottlieb, M.P.A., began his law enforcement career in 1968 and served as a sworn police officer with the West Covina, California, Police Department and Deputy Sheriff with the Los Angeles County, California, Sheriff's Department. Recognized internationally for his expertise in the practical application of Crime Analysis Techniques, Steve obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Police Science and many other federal Administration from California State University, Los Angeles, and his Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California. He served with the Chino Police Department for fourteen years, and as Special Services Bureau Commander & Manager, supervised the Department's extensive Crime Analysis, Crime Prevention, and Serious Habitual Offender Programs. Additionally, Mr. Gottlieb received a Commendation from the City of Chino for personally writing and securing over $1 million in state grant funds to develop and operate these law enforcement programs. Steve regularly presents crime analysis courses for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Royal Canadian Mounted Police, California Department of Justice, and many other federal, state, municipal and military law enforcement agencies throughout the world. He has also served as a Crime Analysis Trainer for the California Governor's Office of Criminal Justice Planning and as a member of its Career Criminal Apprehension Program Technical Advisory Committee. Steve developed a full, for-credit Crime Analysis curriculum for the University of California and California State University Systems-the first of its kind ever to be offered at any college or university in the United States-and began teaching his Crime Analysis course at California State University at Fullerton and San Bernardino in 1992. Steve also served as a consultant to the California State Universities and the California Department of Justice to implement a formal certification program for crime and intelligence analysts.

Tanveer Makhani

Tanveer Makhani specializes in the areas of online education and e-learning. As a professor, curriculum developer, policy advisor, and consultant, Tanveer is recognized nationally for his expertise in creating and delivering high quality training programs for public institutions and private organizations. Tanveer's passion for adult learning began in the healthcare industry where he served as a leading innovator for healthcare organizations and alliances nationwide. He soon became a visiting professor for Bachelors and Masters Degree Programs at the University of Tennessee, College of St. Scholastica, and University of Mississippi, and was subsequently recruited as an advisor for the enhancement of their educational delivery systems. He has also developed a full-length Masters Level Degree Program in Knowledge Management and Business Intelligence, an online curriculum targeted towards top management and executives. Mr. Makhani's personal interests later brought him to the law enforcement profession where, in conjunction with the Alpha Group Center for Crime and Intelligence Analysis, he now presents online instruction to members of law enforcement agencies and other criminal justice organizations in the use of research methods and scientific inquiry. Always at the cutting edge, Tanveer focuses on the creation of today's programs through the use of tomorrow's technologies. As such, he regularly presents at national conferences and seminars on topics surrounding effective knowledge management and data analysis. As co-founder of DotMinds Learning Inc., he also conducts executive training sessions and educational workshops on industry-specific subject matter. As part of this role, Tanveer routinely builds online classes, curricula, and programs that satisfy client needs and objectives. Within the law enforcement arena, Tanveer works to provide agencies with organizational training solutions, departmental learning programs, and community education tools. By building an online presence for criminal justice establishments and associations, he is able to enhance their professional development directives in a very positive way. Tanveer is a magna cum laude graduate of University of California, Berkeley, with degrees in Cognitive Science and Computer Science. His honors dissertation addresses effective adult learning techniques and explores the cognitive phenomena behind successful learning and training programs.
