Our research focuses on translational cancer research using hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) as a model system. We are interested in (1) identification, characterization, niche interaction and therapeutic targeting of liver tumor-initiating cells (T-ICs) / cancer stem cells (CSCs); (2) molecular mechanisms of cancer metastasis and (3) understanding the molecular aspects of cancer drug resistance including molecularly targeted drugs and immune therapy, (4) pivotal role of gut microbiota in cancer development, in the hope to translate our basic research into better survival and improved quality of life of cancer patients. We are using sophisticated cell culture model system, omics approach and patient-derived xenograft as our research platform.
