Red Funnel was formed in 1861 and is today a modern and highly successful cross Solent ferry operator and travel and leisure company based in the UK City of Southampton. Group activities include cross-Solent ferries, UK holidays, distribution and freight services... Here at Red Funnel, we're proud to have been operating ferries to the Isle of Wight for over 160 years, when we were originally known as "The Southampton, Isle of Wight and South of England Royal Mail Steam Packet Company Limited". The original Isle of Wight ferry service, which operated ferries between Cowes and Southampton, was serviced by impressive looking paddle steamers. These boats also went further afield, carrying passengers to other locations such as Brighton, Cherbourg and Torquay.
