"Amrita HIS started development in 2002 for the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) a 1,300-bed tertiary care hospital, and deployed the following year. At the suggestion b of Ron Gottsegen, Executive Director of AIMS, their internal informatics team replaced a Siemens system with a more flexible solution that utilized modern software design and had a low cost of ownership. Mr. Gottsegen had come to AIMS after a successful career as co-founder of Radionics Security Alarm systems which he sold in a multi-million dollar transaction to Bosch. Mr. Gottsegen, years ahead of his time designed the system on a single database, beginning with a patient-centric EHR. AIMS opened its doors in 1998 in Cochin, India, inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
