Theodore Edward Andrae

Theodore Edward Andrae was born in 1863 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the son of Christian A. Andrae who came to the United States from Europe. T.E. Andrae was a jeweler by trade, expert watchmaker and optometrist. He started his store in Orangeburg, S.C. in 1888. Andrae's continues today as a viable retailer to generations of families in the Orangeburg area. Andrae's reputation for quality jewelry and friendly service has been the cornerstone of the business for 128 years. After falling ill, his son, Theodore W. Andrae II, was given the responsibility of managing the business at the young age of 17. Several years later he married Edna Hayden who, with her dynamic personality, managed Andrae's for over 40 years. Next to step up in the generational chain was Theodore E. Andrae, III, who has been in the business for the past 45 years. In the 70's, Mr. T.E. Andrae III was the originator and owner of the Add-A-Gold Bead concept, a manufacturing division - The Gold Bead and Chain Co.- was started and eventually opened a manufacturing plant in New Jersey. With the acquisition of other companies, were Krementz Gold and Shiman Line, it was consolidated into Andrae's Manufacturing Co.. For the past 40 years Mr. Andrae has been responsible for the management of this division. Now the 4th generation is stepping up to carry on the Andrae name & credibility in the jewelry industry. Brett Andrae fourth generation jeweler, now owns and operates Andrae & Co. located at 1135 Russell Street, Orangeburg, S.C. Brett Andrae is a graduate from the Gemologist Institute of America which qualifies him in appraisal work and diamond sales. Andrae & Co. is eager to continue the tradition of his family owned business and takes pride in buying the right merchandise, providing great customer service, and maintaining the high standards set by its name since 1888.
