Anastasia Benoit

Job Titles:
  • Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery
Dr. Benoit is a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS) and American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). She is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Dermatologic Society (CDS), and is an active member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS). Dr. Benoit has multiple publications in leading peer-reviewed dermatology journals and has presented her research at the American College of Mohs Surgery annual meeting. In addition to her time with Dermatology Specialists patients, she continues to mentor residents at the University of Colorado.

CAROL ALONSO

A nationally board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Alonso has been in private practice since 2010. She enjoys building strong relationships with patients of all ages while providing the highest level of care and education about their skin, while also volunteering to run skin cancer screenings in the community with organizations like the Colorado Rockies. She is currently serving as president of the Colorado Dermatologic Society.

Danielle Nelson

Dr. Nelson grew up in Michigan and attended the University of Michigan with a major in psychology and a minor in Spanish. She graduated from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine with honors, interned at Exempla St. Joseph Hospital here in Denver and completed her dermatology training at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. She enjoys photography, yoga, sewing and Michigan football.

Dr. Genevieve Wallace

A valued member of the Dermatology Specialists' team, Dr. Genevieve Wallace is board certified in both dermatology and dermatopathology and serves as the practice's dermatopathologist. Born in Tyler, Texas she attended Abilene Christian University on a full tennis scholarship where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. She subsequently attended medical school at the University of Texas at Houston where she was awarded the Dermatology Student of the Year Award. After graduating from medical school in 2004, she went on to complete an internship in Internal Medicine and residency in dermatology at the University of Texas at Houston/MD Anderson Cancer Center. After graduating from dermatology residency in 2008 she went on to practice clinical dermatology for 10 years and joined our practice in 2016. Her heart for education and knowledge drew her back to training in 2018 when she returned to Dallas temporarily to complete a fellowship in Dermatopathology with Propath Laboratory. Dr. Wallace is honored and thrilled to be a part of the Dermatology Specialists team of providers. She was born in Texas but her heart has always loved Colorado and she knew one day it would be the place she called home. Her hope and desire is to offer the highest level of medical care for each of her patients whether through clinic or in the reading of their skin biopsies.

Dr. Laura Huff

"I am a teacher at heart; a doctor by training," reflects Dr. Laura Huff. "Doctoring is teaching patients all the tools available to improve skin health, while learning their preferences, goals, and values. The best feeling is when I can use my medical knowledge to help patients navigate their own skin disorders." Prior to joining Dermatology Specialists, Dr. Huff served as Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the prestigious Washington University School of Medicine, where she won the "Washington University Dermatology Teacher of the Year" award. Dr. Huff is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and has multiple publications in leading peer-reviewed dermatology journals. She practices general medical dermatology for children and adults and performs minor skin surgeries. Dr. Huff especially likes cases of complex medical dermatology, neurodermatology, and helping her patients treat and prevent skin cancer and acne. Dr. Huff earned her medical degree at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where she received several honors, including the David Whitlock Award for Outstanding Performance in Anatomy, and being elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Her undergraduate degree in biology (with a minor in Spanish) is from Colorado State University, where she graduated summa cum laude with Honor's Distinction.

Dr. Rachel Simmons

"Our skin is what we show the world; it is intricately attached to our self-esteem," says Dr. Rachel Simmons. "As a dermatologist, I enjoy partnering with my patients to enable them to feel their best about their skin health and how they face the world." An active member of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and the Colorado Dermatologic Society (CDS), Dr. Simmons is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology. Specializing in medical dermatology, her focus includes skin cancer, acne, rosacea, and rashes. She is also interested in incorporating holistic approaches into treatment regimens for common dermatologic ailments. Dr. Simmons graduated cum laude from Duke University, where she earned a degree in biomedical engineering. She attended medical school, graduating with high honors, at the University of Florida before completing her dermatology residency at the University of Colorado. Dr Simmons joined Dermatology Specialists in 2013 and practices in both the Boulder and Louisville offices. "Dermatology Specialists is practice that shares my vision on revolutionizing the way medicine is delivered," she reflects, "by truly focusing on the delivery of an excellent patient care experience."

Dr. Shannon Detty

Dr. Shannon Detty is a board-certified dermatologist, born and raised in Golden, Colorado. She completed her undergraduate studies at Regis University in Denver, Colorado, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Biology major and a Spanish minor. She obtained her medical degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. During her time at Regis and Creighton, she provided medical care to rural communities in the Dominican Republic and Bolivia. She went on to complete her internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado, and her residency in Dermatology at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where she served as chief resident during her final year. Dr. Detty has authored multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors, walking her dogs, skiing and hiking. Dr. Detty and her husband are very happy to be in Colorado with their families. Dr. Detty is thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the Dermatology Specialists team, providing care for patients of all ages. She enjoys the ability to offer treatment options for a wide array of dermatologic conditions, while also focusing on early detection and prevention of skin cancer.

Jessica Olander

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Olander attended The Ohio State University for her undergraduate studies, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She continued at Ohio State for medical school. She was elected into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Following medical school, she moved to Denver to complete her residency in dermatology and fellowship in Mohs Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology at the University of Colorado. She has co-authored numerous scholarly papers and is an active member in the American College of Mohs Surgeons (ACMS). Dr. Olander practices surgical, general, and cosmetic dermatology. She is passionate about treating skin cancer and all disorders of the skin. She has extensive training in skin cancer diagnosis and treatment, Mohs surgery, and facial reconstruction. Outside of work, Dr. Olander loves spending time outdoors with her husband, daughter, and their dog. Their favorite activities include hiking and skiing.

SHAWN ALLEN

A nationally recognized and respected cosmetic dermatologist and surgeon, Dr. Allen founded Dermatology Specialists with a unique focus: "…to create a place for both staff and patients to be seen and taken care of by compassionate and loving people. As the landscape changes for dermatology (and medicine more broadly), we want to be leaders in change for the better for our patients, community, and for each other." A skilled surgeon, after completing his residency at Washington University in St. Louis, Dr. Allen completed additional fellowship training in Mohs micrographic surgery, dermatologic surgery, cosmetic surgery, and cosmetic dermatology. Tailoring treatments to suit the unique skin health goals of each patient, Dr. Allen creates superior cosmetic outcomes, and is a recognized by his peers as an expert in both managing skin cancers and performing cosmetic procedures. Dr. Allen serves as an expert and consultant for national and international cosmetic skin care companies, travelling across the country and world to train other providers in a variety of highly specialized cosmetic procedures. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the University of Colorado's Department of Dermatology, has published textbook chapters and articles in leading dermatology journals, and is a regularly invited national and international speaker and trainer on skin cancer, cosmetic and surgical techniques and laser procedures for dermatologic, plastic, facial plastic, oculoplastic, and laser surgeons across the world.
