Janet is a brand development and consumer insights specialist, with over 25 years experience in consumer marketing, innovation and brand strategy. She brings a breadth of experience gained working with big and small companies, as well as charities, in the UK/Europe and in the US. She loves the challenge of identifying and harnessing potential market opportunities facing consumer-interfacing brands, and is a firm believer in each of us doing our part to create a better future for our children, leaving the planet stronger and more enduring than when we arrived. Janet is currently Director of Insights at Instant Insights Lab a consumer research company based in San Francisco, as well as working independently for companies to help identify stronger futures for their consumer brands.

Our President, Lisa Gautier, with Phil McCrory, hair mat inventor and one of the initial Eco-Heroes!
In 1998, Lisa Craig Gautier co-founded the environmental public charity, Matter of Trust (MofT), with her husband Patrice Gautier (VP at Apple, Inc). Lisa concentrates on the positive, delivering sensible solutions and nurturing teams dedicated to ecology.
She implements transformational programs that promote renewable resources, recycling, reuse, and repair. Lisa designs large-scale systems that are inclusive, convenient and replicable. A big fan of skilled labor, she cultivates pride in expertise and enthusiastic project ownership from staff, part-timers, interns and volunteers.
She orchestrates International networks and platforms for green innovations, celebrating the energy in young apprentices and mastery in wise seniors.
Lisa ensures visitors of all ages can enjoy MofT's fun and inspirational flagship locations: 1) The Eco-Industrial Hub, a working model factory with delightfully empowering exhibits about clean air, water, and energy, and ideal materials for products. 2) The immersive Eco-Home showcases how urban renters can have impactful, earth-friendly apartments and grow enchanting edible gardens. Through lectures and interviews, Lisa provides answers for the often asked "What can I do?"
Prior to MofT, Lisa was Assistant Director in Paris at Valeo (International Development & Treasury 1995-1996) and at FedEx Logistics (1994). Previously in San Francisco, she worked at Cecchi & Massoni (Legal and Accounting 1985-1993). Her studies include French Language & Culture (Sorbonne, France 1993-4) then Zoo Management & Breeding of Endangered Species (Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust, UK 1983-4). Lisa serves on the Boards for MatterofTrust.org, Biomimicry.org and RandallMuseum.org. She resides in California, with her husband and their 3 daughters.
In 1998, Lisa co-founded Matter of Trust with her husband, Patrice Gautier. She has run the ecological charity as the pro-bono President ever since.

Patrice joined Apple in 1997, and is currently Vice President of Internet Software & Services, Apple, Inc. His teams launched iTunes store (2002) then Apps Store and iBooks Store, and launched iCloud (2010). He took on Apple Maps (2013-2024) and is currently working on Special Projects.
He took a brief leave from Apple in 2000 to become CTO of the start-up Netstruxr.com. Previously, Patrice worked for NeXT (1996) before he was absorbed into Apple's WebObjects team. From 1993 - 1996, he was an R & D engineer for Thomson-CSF Paris, France, in charge of NATO's Data Fusion Demonstrator. From 1991 - 1993, he was Research Assistant in the Knowledge Systems Lab at Stanford University, modeling the Reaction Control System for NASA's space shuttle. Patrice holds an engineering degree from Ecole Centrale de Paris, France and a Masters Degree in computer science from Stanford.

Serena McIlwain is currently Secretary of the Environment for the State of Maryland. She served the Federal Government for nearly 30 years working in both the legislative and executive branches of government. Before joining the EPA in 2014, Serena served as the Chief Operating Officer at the Department of Energy, providing management and operational support for scientists, engineers, technicians and administrative professionals. Her prior positions include serving as the Director of Workforce Planning and Management for the Architect of the Capitol, and Special Advisor to the Associate Director of Administration at the National Institutes of Health and for the Chief Economist at the Census Bureau.
She also served as a Senior Fellow for Congressman Louis Stokes, working primarily with the Appropriations Committee. Most recently, Serena has been appointed as the EPA's Performance Improvement Officer (PIO) and the Director of the newly created "Office of Continuous Improvement". In this role, Serena will implement a new Lean Management System at EPA to drive accountability and performance improvement. Prior to assuming her new role as PIO, Serena was the Assistant Regional Administrator and Director of the Environmental Management Division at EPA Region 9 in San Francisco, CA. In that role, she was responsible for the management and execution of a $618M annual operation and overseeing all of the business operations for the Region. She holds Master's Degrees in General Administration and Public Administration, respectively.
Serena is the Secretary of Environment for the State of Maryland.

Terry is a retired instructional designer specializing in large systems flow and training.
While Terry only became a board member recently, he has been an active volunteer for many years. Most notably, he helped us organise the site maps for Matter of Trust's online programs.
Terry is a San Franciscan through and through. After being an electronic technician in the Air Force, he graduated in 1976 from San Francisco State University with a degree in Broadcasting. Terry worked as a video editor and computer animator in Hollywood. Then in the late 80's he changed careers working as an instructional designer to create training programs for businesses. He got his Ph.D. in 1997 at USC in Educational Psychology.
Currently, he is enjoying his retirement and assisting non-profits in San Francisco where he resides with his family.

Todd Ditto is an educator. He hails from the mining city of Butte Montana and was raised across three countries and two continents. He earned a BS in Mathematics, minor in Economics, and grade 5 - AP Calculus teaching certification from Montana State University in Bozeman Montana. Todd's quest for widening his world perspective led him to Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Colorado, and Nevada to experience urban secondary education, charter school models, differentiated instruction, single sex education, civic engagement, progressive/constructivist education, and global stewardship. Todd enjoys exploring the world on his bike, community service, hiking, sports fishing, skiing, snowshoeing, playing ukulele, knitting, circus arts, and sharing the joys of raising chickens. Todd is a teacher of mathematics at Alta Vista school in San Francisco, CA.

Travis is a software engineer in the iTunes department at Apple Inc. After moving here from Arizona, he worked for PGP Corporation, MediaRing, NetStruxr, and Quetzal Consulting. Travis has been advising Matter of Trust for its online database, Excess Access, since 2000. Together with Patrice (see above) he was responsible for the design improvements and implementation of the dynamic database 2000-2009. He is continually instrumental as an advisor for testing and improving the Matter of Trust and associated websites.
Travis is a Manager, Digital Supply Chain department at Apple, Inc. Advising Matter of Trust since 2000.
