Outside of the office, I am a mother and wife. I obtained my Juris Doctorate from Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, AL in 2002, whilst raising three little girls. After graduation, I moved to Sacramento, CA where I passed the California Bar Exam and took a job in business litigation. I decided to move back to Alabama because I felt it would be the best place to raise my daughters, and took a job in a busy real estate practice. Although I enjoyed the work, I felt like there was something missing from my practice. This is when I became interested in Elder Law. I decided to research that area of law and all the practice areas involved, and opened Givens Law Firm, PC in 2009. This enabled me to work doing the things I love- helping clients take care of themselves and their families. Laura Givens and Norma Wells formed Turning Point Legal in February 2017 after many years of admiring each other's "nerd-like" focus on learning all they could to help clients facing the loss of their homes and assets due to the cost of long-term nursing home care. They spent many hours researching and conferring on how to best help their clients protect assets and plan for their estates. After many trips together to elder law meetings with the State Bar, Laura popped the question - and Norma said yes! Norma and Laura realized they could focus on clients better together than apart. So, on one cold afternoon, they took the plunge and formed Turning Point Legal - or TPL. Yes, they have tissues for your issues!
