Job Titles:
- Assistant Director of Brand Engagement
Agustin Melendez, Jr. (Augie) joined the University of the Incarnate Word in 2017, as a Graduate Assistant for Softball and Football. He was hired as a full-time athletic trainer, to assist with football, in 2019. Melendez was later promoted as the head football athletic trainer in 2021.
Melendez was involved with the medical staff who guided UIW's 23-sport athletics department through the COVID-19 pandemic. This included developing and implementing testing and quarantine protocols that aligned with regional and national standards.
The Galveston Island native, grew up practicing martial arts and boxing, which he is still greatly involved with on a professional level.
He received his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Master of Science in Kinesiology from the UIW. Melendez is licensed through the State of Texas and is nationally certified as an athletic trainer.

Alexa Low joined the University of Incarnate Word Athletics Department in August of 2021. Low received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a minor in Sports Management from Quincy University (QU) and is pursuing a master's degree in Sport Management from UIW.
Prior to UIW, Low worked with Rapsodo as an Event Coordinator and with Alamo City Hoops as a basketball reporter. She spent two years as an intern with the Quincy University Athletics Communications Office where she worked directly with the Sports Information Director (SID) for all Quincy Athletics. During her time at QU, she worked as a sports writer for the local newspaper, the Herald-Whig, covering football, basketball and volleyball and ran social media for the women's basketball team.
In addition to working within athletics, she interned with the United States Air Force Research Laboratory in the corporate communications office writing for the website and newspaper.
Low has extensive experience in social media, stats, writing, and sports information responsibilities.
In this role, Low oversees all areas of communications for UIW Athletics.

Alyson Haylor was named the head coach of the University of the Incarnate Word artistic swimming program on September 16, 2022.
In her first season as head coach she led the team to a second place finish at the MPSF Conference Championship. The team also finished third at the U.S Collegiate Championships. Six student-athletes earned All-Conference honors, and 12 earned All-Academic honors.

Amanda Lopez took over as the head coach of the University of the Incarnate Word dance team in the Fall of 2021. In her second season as a Cardinal, the team took home ninth place in the 2023 NDA Collegiate National Championships in the Team Performance Division I category, the program's first time competing as this event.
Lopez, a UIW alum, also works as an instructor at Pure Barre Alamo Heights.

Amber Cunningham joined the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball staff as an assistant coach in May 2019.
Cunningham comes to the Cardinals after two years outside of the collegiate coaching ranks. During the 2018-19 season, she worked as an assistant coach for the Alamo City Aztecs of the Minor League Basketball Association (2018-19). Here, she helped guide the team to a 6-1 record and a berth in the regional championship game.
In addition to her time with the Aztecs, Cunningham spent a year as an English teacher at George Gervin Academy (2018-19) and a year with GM Financial (2017-18), both located in San Antonio.
Prior to her time in San Antonio, Cunningham spent three years (2014-17) as an assistant coach at the University of Louisiana Monroe. During her time at ULM, Cunningham designed and implemented practice plans, scouted opponents, and prepared game plans. She also worked with student-athletes both individually and in a team setting to teach cognitive aspects of the game. Off the court, Cunningham was responsible for both on- and off-campus recruiting activities.
Before joining the Warhawks, Cunningham spent the 2013-14 season as the video coordinator at Rice. She began her coaching career in the high school ranks as an assistant coach at Fairfax High School in her hometown of Los Angeles. During the 2012-13 season, Fairfax posted a 24-7 record and reached the CIF Los Angles Section Division I Championship Game.

Lang comes to San Antonio from Central Michigan, where he worked for two years as Director of Player Development under head coach Tony Barbee. He assisted with all aspects of the program, including player development, opponent scouting, and day-to-day operations.
Prior to his time in Mount Pleasant, Lang served three years as head student manager for the Depaul men's basketball program under head coach Dave Leitao, where he gained experience at the highest level of college basketball.
While in Chicago, Lang worked as a basketball trainer at Ground Zero, where he helped NBA draft prospects prepare for the next level, while also working with professionals to improve their games.
In 2019, Lang founded and then acted as president and coach of the DePaul University Club Basketball program. He also served as an AAU coach for All In Athletics (2019-20) and as a coach at the Doug Bruno Basketball Camp (2019).
A native of Seattle, Washington, Lang earned his graduate degree in Sports Leadership from Central Michigan in 2023. He earned his bachelor's in exercise science from Depaul in 2021.

Beverly Holmes, a San Antonio native, joined the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball staff as an assistant coach in May of 2019.
Holmes was promoted to recruiting coordinator in May of 2022 and in the fall of 2022, the Cardinals signed three student-athletes all ranked in the state of Texas (Premier Basketball), one of which was in the Texas Top 50. The 2023-24 season will mark Holmes' fifth year at UIW.
Holmes played for Millsaps College for four years, helping guide her team to three regular season conference championships.

Blair Cavanaugh joined UIW in the spring of 2022 as the Special Teams Analyist.
Prior to UIW, Cavanaugh joined Syracuse in February 2019. Syracuse was dynamic on special teams during his time there, they ranked 1 st in the ACC in special teams and 5 th nationally in the 2020 season. During his time with the Orange he coached 2 all American specialists, three all-conference specialists, 1 Lou Groza Award winner and two all-conference returners. Cavanaugh has two punters in the NFL, Sterling Hofrichter with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Nolan Cooney with the Arizona Cardinals.
Prior to Syracuse, Cavanaugh was a graduate assistant at Ball State from 2017-18. He helped coach the Cardinals wide receivers, including 2018 All-MAC selections Riley Miller and Justin Hall. Cavanaugh also made a brief stop at Nebraska as an offensive staff volunteer.
Cavanaugh played his college football at Portland State and Oregon State. A wide receiver himself, Cavanaugh began his career with Oregon State and was a member of OSU's 2012 Alamo Bowl and 2013 Hawaii Bowl teams. In 2012, he was named Oregon State's Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year. Cavanaugh played his final two seasons at Portland State and helped the Vikings to the 2015 FCS playoffs.
Cavanaugh earned his bachelor's degree in social science from Portland State in 2016 and his Masters Degree from Ball State University in 2018.

Carlos Sendin-Castelao joined the University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer program prior to the 2020-21 year. He will work primarily with the goalkeepers, while assisting with other components of the game.
Sendin-Castelao helped guide the Cardinals through a COVID-19 shortened season that fielded just nine contests. The Cardinals went 2-7-0 in the Spring 2021 Western Athletic Conference-only season. Defensively, Sendin-Castelao coached goalkeeper Charles Beck to a 2-0 shutout win over Houston Baptist. The Beck and Nils Roth duo combined to allow just 20 goals on the season and collected 42 saves. The Cardinals held opponents to a .187 shot percentage and a .579 on-goal average in his first season with the Cardinals.
Sendin-Castelao comes to UIW after a successful collegiate career. He brings four years of Division I coaching experience (at the University of Dayton and Eastern Illinois) to the Cardinal staff.
From 2018-20, Sendin-Castelao was the assistant men's soccer coach at Eastern Illinois University. While at EIU, Sendin-Castelao coached the goalkeepers on both the men's and women's soccer teams. He guided the EIU men's team to No. 1 Summit Conference ranking in goals against and save percentages, while working with all-conference selection in John Burke. Sendin-Castelao coached a two-time first team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection and 2019 OVC Goalkeeper of the Year, Sara Tateak.
Prior to EIU, Sendin-Castelao was on staff at the University of Dayton as a volunteer assistant coach from 2016-18. As a volunteer, Sendin-Castelao was responsible for identification and recruitment of student-athletes and the preparation of scouting reports. He was also the goalkeeper coach.
Under his guidance as a volunteer assistant coach, Dayton ranked No. 1 in the A-10 Conference in goals scored and No. 14 in NCAA Division I in goal average. Sendin-Castelao helped Dayton to two more A-10 Conference tournament appearances. He coached the A-10 Conference Player of the Year and No. 1 MLS Draft pick, Lalas Abubaker, and A-10 Midfielder of the Year, Tok Taneski.
Sendin-Castelao started his collegiate career at West Virginia Institute of Technology where he helped the team win the USCAA NAIA National Championship and named to the all-tournament team. During his senior year, Sendin-Castelao transferred to the University of Dayton. There, he helped lead the Flyers to an Atlantic-10 Conference Tournament title and was later selected to the all-tournament team after reaching the second round of the National Championships.

Clint Killough, a former UIW student-athlete and associate head coach, was promoted to the position of UIW head football coach in December of 2022.
Killough was named head coach in the midst of the best season in program history, heading to the FCS Semifinals for the deepest playoff run in the UIW football era. The 2022 Cardinals, with Killough as associate head coach and wide receivers coach, rewrote the record book. The team has two wide receivers currently sitting in the top five in FCS for receiving touchdowns and receiving yards after winning back-to-back Southland Conference Championships.
Killough, a UIW alum, played for the Cardinals for three seasons (2013-2015) before returning to UIW in 2018 as the quality control coach for the inside receivers. He quickly climbed the coaching ranks as he was elevated to associate head coach/wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator in January of 2022. Killough has been with the program through all three Southland Conference Championships ('18, '21, '22) and all three FCS Playoff runs.

Courtney started fencing at 8 years old and never looked back. She is a 3 time USA Olympian in Women's Epee (2012, 2016 & 2020). She won an Olympic Bronze medal with the USA Women's Epee team in 2012. Courtney also was a 2 time NCAA Champion at the University of Notre Dame, Cadet World Champion, Junior World Champion (team), Junior World Cup (FIE) Points Champion, Senior World Champion (team) and won a Bronze medal at the Senior World Championships. She conducts clinics and strategy sessions for clubs and individuals all over the United States via Hurley Tactics (hurleytactics.com). She likes to travel around the country in her van with her two dogs and cat whenever she gets a chance. Courtney recently coached for the University of Notre Dame during 2022 and moved back home to San Antonio in January 2023 where she now coaches for University of Incarnate Word.

Danielle DeCotis joined the University of Incarnate Word Athletics Department in July of 2021 as the Athletic Administration Coordinator.
A San Antonio native, DeCotis graduated from Antonian College Preparatory in 2015 before spending two years at St. John's University in Jamaica Queens, NY as a collegiate cheerleader. She finished her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Corporate Communications. DeCotis is currently pursuing her Master of Business Administration at UIW's School of Professional Studies.
Prior to UIW, DeCotis worked for three years as a student assistant and one year graduate assistant for the men's basketball team at the University of Texas at Austin. In this position, she worked closely with the men's basketball staff managing administrative affairs and assisting in game-day activities as well as the recruiting process.
As the Athletic Administration Coordinator, DeCotis worked with the athletic director and senior staff to manage the daily administrative affairs of the athletic department.
In September of 2022, DeCotis started her role as Assistant Director of Corporate Partnerships and Spirit Program.

Dr. Allison Cronin is a Senior Clinical Instructor at the Rosenberg School of Optometry. She grew up in San Antonio and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and a minor in Spanish. Dr. Cronin graduated from optometry school at the Rosenberg School of Optometry and continued her education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry where she completed a Family Practice Residency. Dr. Cronin is a licensed therapeutic optometrist and optometric glaucoma specialist. She is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry. She joined RSO in 2015 and is currently a clinical instructor and serves as Chief of the Sports and Vision Performance Service.

Dr. Amy Ferguson received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Oklahoma State University in 1991. During her time there she was a member of the varsity track team and was active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Shortly after, she completed her masters in school counseling at Oklahoma State University while serving as an assistant coach for the university's varsity track and field team. Dr. Ferguson served in education as a teacher, coach and school counselor for nearly ten years. She returned to school and completed her doctoral program at the University of Houston, College of Optometry in 2005. Dr. Ferguson completed her externships in primary eye care at the Wurzburg Medac in Wurzberg, Germany and Space Center Eye Associates in Clear Lake, TX. Dr. Ferguson is currently licensed as a therapeutic optometrist and optometric glaucoma specialist and is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Texas Optometric Association. Dr. Ferguson joined UIW RSO in 2012 and serves as the Deputy Director of Clinics for the UIW Eye Institute. She and her husband are the owners of La Cantera Eye Associates. Dr. Ferguson enjoys spending time with her husband and son, Jackson. She is an avid sports fan, loves the theater and attending her son's activities. She and her family are members of Oak Hills Church and have lived in San Antonio for nearly 10 years.

G.J. Kinne (Kin-Knee) joins the University of the Incarnate Word in December of 2021. Previously, Kinne was at the University of Central Florida (UCF) where he was the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Kinne is a former professional quarterback with stints in the NFL and the Canadian Football League. The Gilmer High School product has spent time coaching with the Philadelphia Eagles, at the University of Arkansas, at Southern Methodist University (SMU) and at the University of Hawai'i. He has worked with and played for some of the top offensive play-callers in the business, including Doug Pederson, Mike Norvell, Chad Morris, Chip Kelly, Ryan Day and Press Taylor.

Lauren Mancha joined UIW Football in the Spring of 2022 as the Executive Assistant to the Head Coach.
Mancha is a UIW Alumni and former UIW student-athlete, playing 5 years of collegiate golf at the Word. During her time as a UIW student-athlete she broke several program records and was the first female golfer to individually win a Division I tournament. In 2022, Mancha graduated from the University with a bachelor's degree in business administration, and she is currently pursuing an MBA with a concentration in Sports Management.

Zack Lucas joined the University of the Incarnate Word as the Director of Football Operations in March of 2022. In this role, Lucas oversees all day-to-day operations of the UIW football program.
Prior to UIW, Lucas was the Director of Football Operations at the University of Hawaii. During his time with Hawaii, he directly oversaw the Director of Player Personnel, Director of Player Development, the Equipment Manager and the Video Coordinator. He also was the liaison between the football program, athletic administration, donors and boosters, He coordinated adherence to NCAA and University Policy with the Campus Compliance Office. Lucas also served as a point of contact for all NFL personnel and scouts to ensure successful campus visits to evaluate draft-eligible players.
Lucas also spent time with the New York Jets as their Football Operations Assistant. In this role, Lucas assisted the Director of Football Operations with all logistics for training camp, housing, transportation, and meals.
