ARLINGTON EDUCATION FOUNDATION - Key Persons

Brad is a fifth generation wheat farmer and an alumni of Arlington High School. He also serves on the Board of Directors for The Bank of Eastern Oregon and the Board of the Oregon Wheat Foundation. In his spare time he likes to run, hike and snowshoe with his wife Sally.

Grant Wilkins is an Arlington native and graduation from the Arlington School District. After graduating he went on to attend Mt Hood Community College and Blue Mountain Community College studying business classes. He has been employed with Portland General Electric (PGE) for the last sixteen years where he has worked up to be a Control Operator/Technician III at PGE's recently build Carty Gas Generation Plant. He also takes great pride in raising a family and being involved along with volunteering in the Arlington Community. Grant also will be finishing her Arlington School Board term this year where he has served fifteen years. "Volunteering is what you do in a small town to make it better."

John Rogers connected with Arlington in 1976 when Dr. Larry Jones hired him to teach Social Studies and coach a variety of sports. He taught at Arlington for the next 8 years, then relocated to serve public education in Oregon, Arizona, and California. He served as a teacher, coach, and administrator in public schools over the past 40 years, and retired as a District Superintendent on the Central Coast of California. Of all the places he and his family have lived, he states that ‘Arlington feels most like home', and is eager to assist the Atascadero Education Foundation in achieving it goals for AHS students. John received his formal education at Linfield College (BA), Western Oregon University MS), Lewis and Clark College, and Cal Poly. Although retired from public education, he currently serves on the Advisory Board for DS&C, a San Francisco financial services firm that advises public agencies on bonded debt. In addition, he and his wife, Teri, manage several businesses they have started since their ‘retirement', including two vacation rental businesses in Newport, and a ‘soon to open‘ school in Wyoming for log building instruction. Teri and John currently live in Newport, OR, near their daughter, Heidi (and husband Sean), son John David, and grandsons, Trask (age 7) and Rigel (age 4).

Kevin Hunking is currently the Superintendent of Arlington School District. Previous to this he was at Multnomah ESD for six years. He has been a teacher and/or administrator in Oregon, Hawaii and Alaska. After receiving one of this Masters Degrees from Oregon State University he continued his graduate classes at Lewis and Clark University. Kevin is married, has three children and two grandchildren.

Leslie Walborn is currently an educator for the Arlington School District. She has served the district since coming to Arlington in 1973. Leslie, and her husband Dave, have two grown children and seven grandchildren. Leslie believes that each young person in Arlington needs some type of training or schooling after high school. This is the reason Leslie sits on the board of directors for the Arlington Education Foundation.

Marta Mikkalo is a 1972 graduate of Arlington High School. After graduation she went on to college and a wildly varied career. And 38 years later, after a long stint in the Public Relations field as an event planner and PR person in the high-tech field, working primarily with Microsoft, Intel Corporation and Tektronix, she left the Portland-area headed for home, Arlington. Currently Marta is active as a Gilliam County Planning Commissioner, on the Gilliam County Fair Board, an active member of the Arlington Saddle Club, involved in Gilliam County Housing, the President of the Arlington Community Chamber of Commerce, and lastly she is the Postmaster of Arlington Oregon. Most importantly Marta believes in giving back to her community, striving always to live life to its fullest and helping her community thrive.

Mary Sallee has been a resident of Arlington since 1981 when she and her husband John purchased Thrifty Food Center. She graduated from The Dalles High School and worked in the banking industry until moving to Arlington. She currently works full-time in the business. Mary and John have three sons Jeff, Jason and Michael and six grandchildren. While her sons were in school she was an active member of the PTA and Booster Club. Mary is a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church.
