PARAWAY - Key Persons

Gregory Downs Station

Gregory Downs Station is a large-scale cattle breeding operation encompassing 266,425 hectares of native grazing land in Northern Queensland. It runs approximately 30,000 Brahman cattle, which are ideally suited to the conditions of the Gulf Region. Gregory Downs has a good balance of land types. Black soil downs country and seasonally flooded river flats produce good grazing through the dry season, while woodlands and low hills provide elevated grazing areas through the wet. Steers and heifer weaners from Gregory Downs are sold to Paraway's Queensland finishing stations. With 85 kilometres of frontage to the Gregory River, Gregory Downs has an abundant permanent supply of running water in addition to the station's 65 man-made stock watering points. The homestead complex is situated along the river, providing a scenic location for station employees to live and work. Gregory Downs also comprises Gregory Farm, a 338 hectare farm that bales both irrigated forage crops and some seasonal native grasses. Hay is sold to the northern Paraway properties and other surrounding stations.

Laura Downs

Laura Downs Station was purchased in 2018 as part of the Urawilkie aggregation. Laura downs Station was split from the Urawilkie business in 2024 to create a stand-alone dryland cropping business. Laura Downs comprises a total area of 8,700 Ha of which approx. 85% is arable. It is located 39km east of Coonamble and has predominately heavier black/grey self-mulching loam soil types.

Malvern Hills Station

Malvern Hills was added to the Paraway family of cattle stations in July 2011. By aggregating the properties of Malvern Hills, Maree Downs and Allambie, Paraway established a 50,070 hectare cattle growing operation in the heart of Queensland. Ideally situated in central Queensland, the acquisition of the Malvern Hills properties added significantly to Paraway's ability to grow out and finish its cattle from the northern breeding properties. The property's location enables the company to expand its access to domestic markets. This allows the business to capitalise on changing market patterns and weather conditions and to sell cattle throughout the year. The property is predominantly open downs country consisting of Mitchell, Flinders and Buffell grasses interspersed with Gidgee and Boree timber.

Oxley Station

Purchased in 2011, Oxley Station has been a welcome addition to Paraway's beef cattle operations in Northern New South Wales. At 35,249 hectares, it is the company's largest cattle property in the region, running upwards of 10,000 head of Angus cattle. Oxley is situated at the edge of the Macquarie Marshes and on the banks of the Macquarie River. River alluvial soil and seasonal flooding support healthy pastures, which provided excellent feed for cattle. The property is divided into 35 well-fenced paddocks and includes three modern cattle yards. In addition to the natural water sources, it has extensive bores, tanks and a water reticulation system. The property includes several comfortable homes for the staff and their families. The Oxley staff are also active and welcome members of the wider rural community.
