FAIRSTONE FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT - Key Persons

Ian Wiseman - Chief Investment Officer

Job Titles:
  • Investment Director
  • Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers
Ian worked in commercial banking and property finance for many years. His career changed direction after the financial crisis when he joined his brother, Mark. Since then, he hasn't looked back. Ian is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland. He also holds a Diploma from the Personal Finance Society and is an Affiliate of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP). He particularly enjoys helping business owners and professionals who can see the goal of retirement in sight but are not sure how to get there. A keen violinist since childhood, Ian plays most days, thanks to the forbearance of family and neighbours! He is also a Trustee of the Charles Halle Foundation, the charitable arm of Manchester's Halle orchestra. Ian and his wife travel extensively.

Kirstie Scorer

Job Titles:
  • Business Manager
Kirstie has worked with Mark at Riverstone and its predecessors for practically her entire working life since leaving college in 1996, starting out as an Administrator and moving up to Technical Administrator, Office Manager and now Business Manager. There was a brief hiatus where she deserted to the Northern Rock but she soon came to her senses and returned to her rightful place! In her teenage years, Kirstie was pretty good at playing the Wurlitzer organ (yes, like the one in Blackpool Tower!) and took part in numerous concerts, not that she enjoyed being in the spotlight. These days, she's more interested in fitness. Having attended an outdoor boot camp for six years, which led to her taking part in a few half marathons in June 2016, she finally took the plunge and joined a Crossfit gym and is now obsessed with it. She still runs but mainly 10k trail runs along with torturing herself with assault courses like Total Warrior!

Mark Wiseman - Managing Director

Job Titles:
  • Managing Director
Mark joined a major insurance company in his early 20's then, a decade later, found it was a natural progression to own his own advisory business. In 2003 he sold that business, working as a consultant to the purchasing company until 2009 when he left to set up Riverstone. His specialist areas are pensions and investment. The most rewarding part of the job for Mark is showing people what they can achieve with their money and helping them to turn vague dreams into reality. He likes to give people the peace of mind of having their own ‘personal finance director'. Mark holds a Diploma from the Personal Finance Society together with an advanced pension qualification. Mark's main hobbies are travelling, winter sports and fishing. In fact, his love of rivers provided the inspiration for the company's name.

Tim Hale

Job Titles:
  • Investment Consultant
Tim graduated from the University of Oxford and also holds an MBA from Cranfield School of Management. After a few years with Standard Chartered in Hong Kong working in Corporate Banking, he moved into the investment world, spending almost a decade at Chase Asset Management (now part of JP Morgan Asset Management) in a number of roles in London, Hong Kong and New York. Driven by his experience of the difficulties that many investors faced trying to invest sensibly, he set up Albion Strategic Consulting in 2001. This formed a niche, working with a small group of high quality financial planning firms in the UK, helping them to establish and manage a robust, risk-focused and low cost, passive approach to investing for their clients. Tim's book, ‘Smarter Investing: Simpler Decisions for Better Results' was first published in 2006 and is now it its third edition. He lives in Devon with his wife and two young daughters and enjoys the moors, the beaches and cycling in the South West. He can sometimes be spotted on his paddle board in the Exe estuary, heading for a sun-downer at one of the waterside hostelries.
