Beth Michelson

Prior to the formation of Cartesian, Beth served with AIGCP since 1999. Prior to joining AIGCP, Beth was an Associate at Wasserstein Perella Emerging Markets focusing on private equity investments and structured products. Previously, Beth worked in financing for media and entertainment at Dresdner Bank AG, in the U.S. House of Representatives, and as a financial journalist in Prague. Beth is a member of the Global Advisory Board of Columbia Business School's Chazen Institute for Global Business. She holds a BA from the University of Michigan and an MBA and MIA from Columbia Business School and Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs. Beth is a CFA® charterholder.

Daisy Vu

Prior to joining Cartesian, Daisy served at Charge Ventures, an NYC-based venture fund investing in early-stage technology companies, and at YCP Group, a global management consulting firm. Daisy holds a BA in Economics & Statistics from Columbia University, where she was the Founder and President of Columbia Organization of Family Enterprises, the first Columbia undergraduate club focused on developing young family business leaders. In this leadership role, she represented Columbia in the world's largest family enterprise case competition in 2020 and built cross-bolder partnerships with privately-held businesses in the US and Southeast Asia. Daisy is fluent in Vietnamese.

Dylan Avery

Prior to joining Cartesian, Dylan worked in various roles in the New Zealand financial sector, including founding a not-for-profit organization focused on financial education, leading a bridge loan financing for affordable housing, and serving at Harbor Asset Management. He has also written multiple articles and documented interviews with leading global business leaders. Dylan holds a bachelors from the University of Canterbury with a triple major in finance, international business, and marketing.

Francisco Barreto

Prior to joining Cartesian Capital Group, Francisco served as a Senior Associate at Euro-Latin Capital. Prior to Euro-Latin Capital, Francisco was a senior associate at AIGCP. Previously Francisco worked at BACP/SG Warburg, an Argentine investment banking firm. He holds a BA degree with a major in economics from Universidad de Belgrano/University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MSc in finance from London Business School. Francisco is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.

Geoffrey Hamlin

Prior to forming Cartesian, Geoff served as a senior member of the AIGCP team, leading numerous investments in several regions. Prior to serving in that position, Geoff was a strategic advisor to Wasserstein Perella Emerging Markets with regard to private equity investments. From 1994 to 1998, Geoff served as Associate General Counsel of COMSAT Corporation, an international communications company, and as Chief Counsel of COMSAT International Ventures, which developed, acquired, and managed communications properties in developing markets. From 1989 to 1994, Geoff practiced law at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, where he focused on international transactions and joint ventures. Geoff received a BA from Tufts University and a JD from the University of Texas School of Law.

Gregory Armstrong

Prior to the formation of Cartesian, Greg served as an Associate at AIGCP where he covered investments ranging from natural resources to telecommunications. Greg was previously with Broadview International, a mid-market mergers & acquisitions advisory firm, where he specialized in advising communications infrastructure companies. Greg holds a BS in electrical engineering from Princeton University and an MBA from MIT's Sloan School. Greg is conversant in German.

Martin Biely

Prior to joining Cartesian, Martin was a Senior Portfolio Manager at First Private Investment Management in Frankfurt, Germany where he managed an emerging markets-focused hedge fund and a European long/short equity fund. Martin holds a Master in International Financial Management from the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg, Germany and University of Economics, Slovakia, and an MBA with High Distinction from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, where he graduated as an Edward Tuck Scholar. Martin is a CFA® charterholder and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst. Martin is fluent in German, Slovak, and Czech.

Nam Trinh

Prior to joining Cartesian, Nam worked at a Wall Street investment bank as an associate providing mergers and acquisitions advisory services. Previously, Nam served in the assurance and advisory practice at Deloitte. Nam graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a BS in economics with concentrations in finance, accounting and statistics from The Wharton School and a BSE in computer science and engineering from The School of Engineering and Applied Science. Nam is a CFA® charterholder. Nam is conversant in Vietnamese.

Paul Hong

Prior to joining Cartesian in 2007, Paul served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of AIGCP and participated in the bulk of the firm's investments during his tenure. Prior to joining AIGCP, Paul practiced law in the corporate and tax departments of Kirkland & Ellis where he specialized in private equity transactions. Paul holds an AB in economics from Columbia College, a JD from Columbia Law School, and an LLM in taxation from New York University Law School.

Paul Pizzani

Prior to forming Cartesian, Paul served as a senior member of the AIGCP team, leading numerous investments in several regions. Prior to that position, Paul was a Managing Director at Wasserstein Perella Emerging Markets and focused on private equity investments. From 1985 to 1997, Paul worked at COMSAT Corporation, where he served as Treasurer. Paul was instrumental in the establishment of COMSAT International, where he directed the investment of more than $300 million in fifteen opportunities in Latin America, Europe, and Asia. Paul received a BS from Villanova University and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Paul is a CFA® charterholder, a Certified Public Accountant, and a Certified Management Accountant.

Peng Zhang

Peng joined Cartesian after a distinguished career in the Chinese foreign service, having previously served as Deputy Director at MOFCOM, Second Secretary for the Chinese Embassy in Canada and Vice Consul in Pakistan. Peng holds a BA and an MA from the University of International Business and Economics, and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. Peng is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese.

Peter Yu - CEO

Prior to forming Cartesian, Peter founded and served as President & CEO of AIG Capital Partners, Inc. ("AIGCP"). Under his leadership, AIGCP became a leading international private equity firm, with more than $4.5 billion in committed capital. Peter led numerous investments in several regions, and served as Chairman of the investment committee of eight AIGCP private equity funds. Prior to founding AIGCP in 1996, Peter served President Clinton as Director to the National Economic Council, the White House office responsible for developing and coordinating economic policy. A graduate of Harvard Law School, Peter served as President of the Harvard Law Review and as a law clerk on the U.S. Supreme Court. Peter received a BA from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School.

Rafael de Luque

Prior to joining Cartesian, Rafael was a Vice President of AIGCP. Prior to this position, Rafael was a Financial Consultant at the Inter-American Development Bank, focusing on debt financing and credit/political risk guarantees in Latin America. Previously, Rafael served in the banking industry in Colombia. He holds a BEng and a BS from Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia and an MBA from the University of Maryland at College Park. Rafael is a CFA® charterholder and fluent in Spanish and conversant in Portuguese.

Steven Thomas

Prior to joining Cartesian, Steven was a Senior Fund Accountant at SS&C GlobeOp, providing fund administration services with a focus on hedge funds. Steven is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a BS in Accounting from the University at Albany and an MBA from Hofstra University.

Thomas Armstrong

Prior to forming Cartesian, Tom served as Senior Advisor to AIGCP from 1999-2005. Tom was co-founder of Advent International, a global private equity firm, where he served as Executive Vice President and COO from 1984 to 1998. During that period, Tom served on the firm's Investment Committee and assisted in the formation and operation of 26 affiliated private equity firms around the world. Tom has also served as Vice President, International of The Allen Group, a NYSE-listed manufacturer. Tom is also co-founder and former COO of Thrasos, Inc., a pharmaceutical development firm using combinatorial and computational chemistry technology to validate early stage biological targets and accelerate the development of new therapeutic agents. Tom holds engineering degrees from Princeton and Cornell, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
