My PhD project will involve the production of a book-length autobiographical travel narrative. The proposed journey will detail the Scottish-Australian connection, primarily through the physical exploration of my hometown's areas that have a strong connection to Scotland (The City of Elizabeth on the Northern fringes of Adelaide). The text will simultaneously explore my own Scottish heritage, creating a unique blend of physical and emotional journey.
My PhD project is about hydrokinetic energy extraction devices and their performance in rivers and other open channel flows. An up-and-coming renewable energy resource, these devices face complex challenges in their design and operation, and my project aims to improve understanding of factors which affect their performance, and their feasibility as a significant energy resource.
My PhD research project is Electrokinetic measurements in intact core samples at reservoir conditions with the application to enhanced oil recovery via miscible CO 2 injection. The focus of my research is to improve the understanding of the physics behind the interaction between rock-brine,-CO 2-oil systems for the application of miscible CO 2 injection to improve oil recovery and CO 2 geological storage by using electrokinetic measurements. This project will significantly reduce the risk for oil recovery project using miscible CO 2 injection and prevent an increasing world carbon emission by CO 2 sequestration. Before continuing my PhD, I completed my master's degree at University of Aberdeen in Petroleum Engineering in 2018.
My PhD research project at Curtin University and the University of Aberdeen is ‘The Analysis of Micro Property Data', which is highly relative to my master research project. In recent decades, government jurisdictions have developed detailed micro level property databases for analysing housing economics in their countries. Micro level data involves managing property records and activity at individual property parcel level, reporting transactions, physical characteristics and geographical location. The data is meaningful in empirical applications of pricing theory in housing markets and real-option pricing theory in financial markets. Well understanding Micro Property Data could be helpful to governors who issue the policies in housing markets, or normal citizens who may be considering their life-cycle costs of their houses (Housing Affordability).
My PhD title is "Thriving not surviving following a breast cancer diagnosis: what can time allocation tell us?" After completing primary breast cancer treatment, cancer patients begin the journey of recovery. Patients' investment on health (monetary and non-monetary) after a cancer shock determines how they rebalance their health, work and social life after treatment. The aim of my PhD is to understand the recovery progress of cancer patients from perspective of economics, based on both primary data and secondary data. Advanced econometrics will be applied to answer my research questions.

Sania's research topic is "Interconnectedness between commodity and equity market during pre- and post- financialization era". Her research plans to explore the impact of financialization on levels and patterns of volatility in commodity and equity markets. Moreover, Sania's study plans to investigate whether the connectedness between equity and commodity markets in volatility level has been altered by financialization of commodity markets. The outcome of her research will be useful in managing risk and creating optimal portfolio while investing in financial and commodity markets.
Sania believes that Aberdeen-Curtin Alliance collaborative PhD programme will provide the experience in research so that her growth would place her among the family of minds who are planning to contribute to economics and finance research. Furthermore, this opportunity serves as an excellent stepping-stone towards fulfilling her dream of a career in academia.
Ms. Wadud is a lecturer at BRAC Business School, BRAC University, Bangladesh and currently is on her study leave. She has worked on modelling and forecasting pricing while carrying out research work on commodity markets at Massey University, New Zealand. She completed her Master's in Financial Forecasting and Investment from the University of Glasgow, Scotland. Her research interests include commodity market, financial market, volatility, pricing and carbon emission. Prior to joining BRAC University, Sania has worked in financial industries in both UK and Bangladesh which include Barclays Capital, Barclays Wealth, Lloyds Banking Group, HSBC Plc and IDLC Finance Ltd. Sania also happens to be an avid soccer fan, and is a diehard supporter of Manchester United and Brazil.
