Abraham Díaz is a Partner at OLIVARES. He co-chairs OLIVARES' Litigation Team, as well as Data Privacy and IT Industry groups and has a wealth of knowledge across all areas of intellectual property (IP), with a focus on litigation, copyright, trademarks, unfair competition, licensing, prosecution and opposition matters.
Alejandra Badillo is an associate attorney at OLIVARES working in the Litigation Department of the firm. She is an attorney-at-law with a Juris Doctor from the Universidad Panamericana and holds a Diploma Degree on Amparo Law also from the Universidad Panamericana. Alejandra's practice expands to all the areas of Intellectual Property, having a strong background in trademarks, industrial designs, copyright and unfair competition.

Alejandro Luna joined OLIVARES in 1996 and being made partner in 2005, he has been instrumental to the firm´s IP Litigation, Regulatory and Administrative Litigation practices. He co-chairs the Life Sciences & Pharmaceutical Law industry group and coordinates the Litigation Department.
Alejandro Luna has been alternately dubbed "an extraordinary litigator, active at every level," "responsive and insightful," and "a knowledgeable IP practitioner offering creative and cost-effective advice" by his peers, according to IAM Patent 1000, while World Trademark Review's WTR 1000 called him "a reliable ally for any party in a dispute".
As one of the few patent and regulatory litigation experts in the country, Mr. Luna has played a crucial role in updating Mexico's intellectual property (IP) system. He participated in questioning the constitutionality of certain provisions of Mexico's Industrial Property Law and the Health Law and its regulation. He sponsored an important proposal to modify the litigation and enforcement systems that made it easier to obtain monetary compensation for violations of IP rights.
Alejandro Salas joined OLIVARES in 2023. Currently, he is an associate in the litigation group responsible for the Anti-Piracy Area. His professional practice specializes in designing campaigns and strategies aimed at identifying and eliminating activities related to counterfeiting and piracy, as well as handling criminal and administrative litigation related to these illegal activities.

Alonso studied in Alicante, Spain, where he received his Masters in Intellectual Property. He has extensive knowledge of the European trademark system and is thus able to make comparisons between the European and Mexican systems in order to more effectively explain legal issues to his clients.
Armando Arenas joined OLIVARES in 2000 and became a partner in January 2017. He has experience working on a range of IP matters, including consulting and litigation on trademark, patent, unfair competition, trade dress protection, and misleading advertising cases before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), Federal Court of Tax and Administrative Affairs (FCTA), Federal Circuit Courts (FCC) and the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) Regulatory Affairs and Public Acquisitions.
Armando Arenas is a Partner at OLIVARES, he joined the law firm in 2000 and now co-chairs the Litigation group. He has experience working on a range of IP matters, including consulting and litigation on patents, unfair competition, trade dress protection, civil and administrative actions related to the IP matters before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property, (IMPI), Federal Court and Administrative Affairs (FCA), Federal Circuit Courts (FCC), the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) and Civil Courts (CC). Mr. Arenas is especially adept in patent litigation and protection under Mexico's patent linkage system, as well as recognition and protection of clinical data on medicines (DPE) and regularly handles cases with Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks COFEPRIS. He has extensive experience with regulatory matters under Mexico's health laws and provides strategic advice in complex patent litigation cases and dispute resolutions in Administrative and Civil matters. Carlos Reyes joined OLIVARES in October 2008 and has more than 30 years of experience in Intellectual Property prosecution and IP litigation. His practice is now mainly focused on the areas of counseling and trademark registration. In summary, he provides counseling regarding trademarks registrability and brings its experience on trademark prosecution and litigation, answering objections related to absolute and relative grounds of refusal, and prepares and files trademark oppositions before the Mexican PTO (IMPI) As senior attorney in OLIVARES trademark team, he has helped to secure trademark protection in Mexico to several important trademarks, in particular relating trademark distinctiveness and likelihood of confusion.

Daniel Sanchez joined OLIVARES in 2000 and became a partner in 2011. He is one of the leading intellectual property (IP) and administrative litigators in Mexico and is recognized by industry rankings and publications.
Mr. Sanchez's work is extensive, with experience in prosecution and litigation across all areas of IP, including trademarks, copyrights, patents and unfair competition. His broad background allows him to tailor enforcement strategies to a range of needs. His practice is focused in litigation and regulatory matters, with a specialization in life sciences and technology. Mr. Sanchez co-chairs OLIVARES' Litigation Team, the Patent Team and the IT industry group. His team is focused on litigation before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) and the Federal Courts and in patent prosecution before IMPI. As one of the few regulatory and administrative litigation experts in Mexico, Mr. Sanchez guided the development and implementation of a revolutionary and proprietary software system that replicates the drug naming and labelling approval process within COFEPRIS, Mexico's health ministry. This drastically improves the accuracy of advice about whether clients marketing authorizations can and will be approved. He also has led OLIVARES' team in obtaining alcoholic beverage advertisement approvals from COFEPRIS.
Mr. Sanchez has authored various articles on IP and Life Sciences-related matters and he has lectured on IP topics in both national and international forums. He chaired the Intellectual Property Committee of the Mexican Bar Association from February 2015 to July 2017 and was Vice President of the Mexican Association for Intellectual for the Intellectual Property Association (AMPPI) 2014-2016. He is also a member of INTA, BIO, AIPPI, and has participated as an observer in APAA at various meetings.
Diego Ballesteros joined OLIVARES in 2017. Since then, he has been an enthusiastic and effective member of Olivares trademark team, participating in multiple cases of the highest relevance within the firm. Diego intervenes in all kinds of matters related to distinctive signs, such as consultancies, the supervision of the filing of trademark applications, assignments of rights, name changes and other trademark procedures before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), as well as in the elaboration of trademark registrability and availability searches, the drafting of franchise or license agreements, the negotiation of coexistence agreements for our clients, among many others.
Currently, Diego is focused on developing comprehensive strategies to obtain and protect our clients' industrial property rights. His wide range of knowledge allows him to assist our clients in various areas and he supports them from the beginning to the end of each matter, whether it is actively intervening in the preparation of responses to official actions and provisional refusals relating relative and absolute grounds of refusal, handling opposition proceedings or planning global litigation strategies.

Eduardo Arana joined OLIVARES in 2017. Currently, he is a member of the Litigation team, focusing his practice in administrative, civil and commercial matters. Noteworthy are proceedings before various administrative authorities, nullity claims before the Federal Court of Administrative Affairs (FCA) "Amparo" Lawsuits before District Courts and Federal Circuit Courts, mostly related to regulatory and intellectual property issues. He has participated in civil and commercial litigation, especially those focused on the claim of a compensation for damages caused by third parties infringing IP rights of our clients, as well as defending lawsuits of this nature.
Eduardo has also participated in administrative procedures of infringement, nullity and cancelation before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property and subsequent instances, related with the defense of trademarks and patents rights of our clients.
Likewise, he is involved in various lawsuits against the National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (INAI), focused on defending and protecting the personal data and confidential information of our clients when the INAI, with its resolutions, orders to disclose confidential information.

Erika Rocio works in the patent area of our firm. Her work at OLIVARES is mainly focused on following up and obtaining patent applications in the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnological and Chemical areas, as well as assisting in providing technical opinions on patentability and general advice. She has experience in conducting prior art searches and drafting patent applications, mainly in the pharmaceutical area, since within her professional career she worked in two prestigious pharmaceutical companies, was part of a research team in a national health institution, and of a technology transfer team for projects in the health area and served as an examiner at the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI).

Guillermo Treviño's tasks comprise obtaining protection for our clients of: reserva rights (names of TV programs, printed matter, diffusion via computer networks, names of fiction characters or human characterizations and their features, etc.) recordation of works (drawing, computer programs, photography, audiovisual works, applied art, etc.), in order that third parties do not seek to use such protections in the Copyright field. He deals with negotiations with collecting societies for royalties collection, as well as obtaining the permits and licenses from the owners of economic rights over works, for using these works on behalf of our clients within several environments -cinematographic, advertisements in television, printed matter, etc.
Gustavo Alcocer manages the Corporate and Commercial Law Group at OLIVARES, advising domestic and foreign businesses and the owners of those businesses on Mexican and cross-border corporate and commercial transactions.

Jaime Rodriguez joined OLIVARES in 2007 and became a partner in 2023. José L. Teja joined Olivares on 2021. He has been a patent specialist since 2015 with a strong focus on prosecution of national and international patent applications, observance and enforcement of industrial property rights, patentability opinions regarding potential inventions, freedom to operate opinions and infringement analysis. Karla Olvera is an associate attorney at the litigation department of OLIVARES and is a member of the Life Sciences group, where she provides legal advice to clients from different industries through the preparation and implementation of innovative strategies to protect their intellectual property rights in Mexico. Her professional practice focuses on litigation related to patents, trademarks, unfair competition, regulatory and administrative matters.
She participated in the first case in Mexico where it was decided to revoke the granting of a marketing authorization of a medicine in violation of a formulation patent derived from the non-compliance by the regulatory authority of the existing linkage system between the granting of marketing authorizations and patents in force, as well as in the first case where the application of said system was recognized in relation to a use patent and its defense in public tenders.
Currently, Karla is involved in different litigations related to government procurement, data protection of biologics medicines as well as in infringement actions involving said products and the granting of marketing authorizations for biocomparable medicines.

Luis Schmidt joined OLIVARES in 1991, became a partner in 1995, and has almost 40 years of legal experience, with a specialization in copyright in the business of entertainment and culture. He has represented the world's leading companies in the music, film, television, book publishing, fine art, design, folklore, and software.
Mr. Schmidt is head of the firm's entertainment group, which handles matters pertaining to copyright law and related IP rights, as well as the full range of transactional, litigation and consulting matters. The group Mr. Schmidt heads is experienced in designing and negotiating production or distribution of audiovisual or music projects, by including the drafting of IP, finance, insurance and all sort of transactional deals. The group is strong for litigating cases across the spectrum of IP and related areas, including civil, criminal and administrative actions for validity or ownership of IP rights, IP infringement, defamation and freedom of expression, and of anti-counterfeiting and piracy, particularly take downs and website blocking. They conduct as well alternative dispute resolution (ADR), with emphasis on WIPO or IFTA. The group handles regulatory work before the Copyright Office and other agencies of the federal and local governments that specialize in film or cultural affairs. It is quite experienced in matters pertaining to collective management systems and performs and does deep clearance of rights for films, series, documentaries or for other audiovisual or music productions.
Finishing college in the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), María went to work to OLIVARES, on the year 2006. She worked for over 10 years and left to run a family project for almost 6 years. María finally went back on Noviember 2021. Her job mainly consists of filing and prosecuting new trademarks, with all the work that this implies, from conducting availability searches to filing litigation procedures when necessary. Carmen Sada focuses her practice on Intellectual Property matters. Mauricio Narváez is the Associate in charge of the renewal department at OLIVARES. He files renewal petitions of the trademark registrations owned by our clients to keep them in full force, and he is also in charge of the filing of the mandatory declarations of use at our Trademark Office. Likewise, he is responsible for the filing of petitions to record assignments of rights, licenses of use, changes of name and address of the registered owners and security agreements.

Mauricio Samano works in the patent department of our firm. Moisés joined OLIVARES in April 2021, where he is part of the Entertainment and Copyright team under the direction of Luis C. Schmidt. His main responsibility lies in providing advice to clients in the creation, review and negotiation of contracts and licenses linked to the entertainment industry. Beyond contractual management, he focuses his practice on the analysis and development of legal opinions to safeguard copyright, employing defensive strategies and avoiding possible violations of third-party rights. His approach also encompasses the execution of procedures for the proper release of works rights. He actively contributes to the creation of articles and circulars on relevant topics in the field.
Additionally, he is part of the Intellectual Property and Administrative Law litigation team led by Daniel Sánchez y Béjar. In this capacity, he manages cases related to trademarks, patents and copyrights before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property, the Specialized Chamber on Intellectual Property Matters of the Federal Court of Administrative Affairs, Circuit Courts, and District Courts. His experience covers the management of matters governed by administrative legislation and various Official Mexican Standards, participating in administrative procedures followed in the form of trials in all their stages before the authorities of the Federal Public Administration, as well as in administrative trials before the Federal Court of Administrative Affairs, direct and indirect "amparo" trials before Circuit Courts and District Courts.

Since joining the firm in 1999, Mr. Ramirez has served clients across a variety of industries, including high-tech, electronics, and software, and has helped to develop anti-counterfeiting and antipiracy strategies to protect and enforce companies' intellectual property rights in both administrative and criminal venues, as well as on appeal in the courts.
