MITCHELL EYE CENTRE - Key Persons

Raised in beautiful Salmon Arm, BC Dr. Brett Poulis completed his PhD at the University of Victoria (UVic). He then completed medical school at the University of British Columbia (UBC). During his tenure at UBC, his love for Ophthalmology began, and he subsequently completed his 5-year Ophthalmology Residency training here in Calgary. After graduation, he obtained an International Uveitis and Ocular Inflammatory Disease Fellowship at the prestigious Francis I Proctor Foundation at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). He currently practices General Ophthalmology with an Interest in Uveitis and Ocular Inflammatory Diseases. Dr. Poulis has been published in many peer-reviewed journals. His research has been presented at local, national, and international conferences. He has been actively involved in teaching various aspects of Ophthalmology to medical students, residents from other disciplines, including Family Physicians. In Dr. Poulis' free time, he enjoys playing competitive soccer and making the most of living in Western Canada through camping, hiking, and lake life. He has a keen interest in forestry health which included experiences as both a BC Heli-Attack Firefighter and BC Heli-Logger.

Dr. Adatia is a Medical and Surgical Retina Specialist and Cataract Surgeon. He has been practicing in Calgary since 2010 and has been a partner at the Mitchell Eye Centre since 2013. Before medicine he completed four degrees in six years at the University of Ottawa and the University in Toronto which included a Masters in Diabetes research. He has accumulated over 30 awards, grants or scholarships including a University Gold Medal for the highest undergraduate mark. Dr. Adatia did his Medical School and Ophthalmology training at the University of Toronto. He was the only Canadian accepted into the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital in the United Kingdom to complete a Medical Retina Fellowship in 2008. He then completed a Surgical Retina Fellowship at the University of Calgary. Dr. Adatia's goal is to provide world-class retina and cataract care in a timely and compassionate manner. He likes to spend most of his spare time with his children and has a keen interest in technology and gadgets.

Dr. Wesolosky graduated from the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine in 2016. He then completed the Canadian intensive 5-year Ophthalmology training program in Saskatoon in 2021. He proceeded directly to medical practice here in Calgary. He is a native Albertan, living in Edmonton before moving to Calgary for medical school in 2013. He practices comprehensive Ophthalmology as well as cataract surgery and has a special interest in Dry Eye. His research interests include artificial intelligence algorithms for diagnosis of disease as well as the socio-economic burdens of disease. Prior to medical school, Dr. Wesolosky worked extensively in the restaurant and automotive industries. During his free time he enjoys cooking and travelling.

Graduating from the University of Alberta in 1971 with further ophthalmic training at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Australia, and a F.R.C.S.C, Dr. Robert Mitchell established Mitchell Eye Centre in 1984. Since then, Dr. Mitchell and his team have been providing quality eye care services to Calgarians by delivering the most advanced and innovative technology available. Today, Dr. Mitchell has helped grow Mitchell Eye Centre to the forefront of eye care delivery in not only Western Canada, but across the country. In 2018, Dr. Mitchell established Me Cosmetic, a physician-led provider of progressive anti-aging cosmetic services and procedures.

A native Calgarian, Dr. Yau strives to provide comprehensive eye care at a high standard to his patients, while also giving back to his community. Fluent in both English and Cantonese, Dr. Yau treats patients of all ages in all areas of eye care including clinical assessments and surgery. When not practising, he's actively engaged in teaching and research at the University of Calgary. Dr Yau runs emergency clinics and performs emergency surgeries at Rockyview Hospital. He attends Canadian and international conferences to stay up to date on the latest practices within the field of ophthalmology.
