OGILVY CHALMERS - Key Persons

CAROLINE SYME

Job Titles:
  • Architecture

Francis Ogilvy

The aspiration I held as a seventeen year-old - to be involved in 'shaping the countryside' - burns just as strong now, three decades on. It has influenced the way I led our predecessor, Chalmers & Co, since taking it over in 1999, and inspires the essence of 'The Compleat Property Company' as Ogilvy Chalmers. Mentors have been many; my formative land agency training was as Assistant Factor on Strathmore Estates in Angus with Peter Ord. It was here that I was exposed to progressive estate management which stood me in good stead for returning to East Lothian in 1996 to join Stewart Chalmers' practice in Haddington.

Niall Braidwood

With more than twenty-five years' experience as a Chartered Architect, Niall Braidwood has wide and varied experience of architectural practice. He also holds Advanced Conservation Accreditation from the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland. Niall has worked with some of Scotland and Northern Ireland's leading conservation and design practices. In Edinburgh Niall is probably most closely associated with Charlotte Square having worked on groups of properties on all four sides of the Square. He has also been associated with the Artspace project at St Mark's Castle Terrace. Projects on which Niall provided design work in Belfast include the NI Housing Executive Offices and the two thousand seat auditorium of the Waterfront Hall. Projects have ranged from early Mediaeval Scheduled Monuments, Mediaeval Churches and castles, Town Halls, country houses and steading conversions to new offices and transport projects. The production of conservation plans, feasibility studies, options appraisals and supporting information for Planning and grant applications forms an integral part of his work. Beyond architectural practice, Niall is a keen violinist and has played with various orchestras, Choral and Operatic Societies across Scotland. He plays regularly with the Meadows Chamber Orchestra in Edinburgh and with his string quartet.
