Andres Perez joined the University of Minnesota faculty in January 2014. Dr. Perez has held the Endowed Chair in Global Animal Health And Food Safety since 2015 and has served as director of CAHFS since 2017. Prior to his position at the U, Dr. Perez spent 10+ years at the University of California, Davis, where he served as director of the UC Davis Center for Animal Disease Modeling and Surveillance. He is also currently an advisor on epidemiology for the Argentine Animal Health Service and for the Foreign Animal Disease Research Unit of the USDA Agricultural Research Service at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center. Dr. Perez has published more than 170 scientific publications and has collaborated on capacity building activities related to food animal health epidemiology in more than 20 countries. His broad expertise in analytical tools applied to vast range of international contexts allows him to effectively deliver contextualized training to engage participants. He has developed and delivered multiple training programs in epidemiological tools, both in person and online for veterinary in service, both to private industry and in service veterinarians of Official Veterinary Services.

Declan Schroeder (PhD) was appointed in February 2018 through the Agricultural Research, Education, Extension and Technology Transfer (AGREETT) program. He is an Associate Professor of Virology in the Veterinary Population Medicine Department in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota. He also holds an honorary Chair in Viral Metagenomics in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Reading, United Kingdom. He was the former Director of the Marine Biological Association of the UK Culture Collection where he was also a Senior Research Fellow in Viral and Molecular Ecology (2001-2018). He has over 20 years of research experience as a molecular biologist in the areas of virology, biodiversity, pathology, and genomics - in particular, the use of genomic tools to study key biological processes. His research focusses on a diverse array of host-virus systems, however, more recently he has been focusing on a new virus resistance mechanism in honey bees. His move to Minnesota means that the Schroeder lab will continue to develop molecular tools to enhance detection and surveillance; secure and improve agricultural productivity through an improved understanding of the true impact of: viral pathogens on honey bee health viral pathogens on swine respiratory disease virus or phage therapy in pig, cattle and fish farms the Virome in disease outcomes in pig, cattle, honey bee & aquatic production systems Expertise Microbiology Virology Molecular Biology Genomics

Dr. Laura Molgaard became Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine in June of 2021 after serving as the Interim Dean since August of 2019. She has been a faculty member at the College since 1997 and served as the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs from 2001-2019. She received both her undergraduate and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees at Iowa State University and spent a brief time in private veterinary practice before beginning her academic career. Molgaard's research interests include the use of entrustable professional activities to improve the frequency and quality of coaching feedback for learners, competency assessment, and selection for and development of non-technical competencies. She has been active in diversity initiatives including veterinary pipeline development, admissions, and culture/climate issues. Molgaard is a member of the executive committee of the International Competency-Based Medical Educators and has maintained an active presence in interprofessional education across the health professions. In 2019, Molgaard was awarded the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association's Outstanding Faculty Award at the statewide organization's annual meeting. She was inducted into the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center's Academy of Excellence in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in 2015. The University of Minnesota presented Molgaard with an Access Achievement Award in 2012 for her efforts to advance access on campus and foster an inclusive environment for students with disabilities.
