Dr. Rolf S. Tanner is the vice president of the Advisory Board of the European Futurists Conference Lucerne. Rolf Tanner is head of Socio-Political Risk Research at Swiss Re, the world's no. 2 in reinsurance. Socio-Political Risk Research covers a wide brief, including the detection and analysis of long-term trends from a sociological and political science point of view. Of course, the risk aspects predominate in such analysis and the focus is on contributing research outcomes to future insurance solutions. Before joining Swiss Re, Rolf was a partner with a consulting boutique in St. Gallen, Switzerland, and before that a country risk analyst at a major Swiss bank. He studied history and political science in Zurich and Geneva, and followed up with post-graduate studies at Georgetown University, Washington, and Australian National University, Canberra. He also holds an Executive MBA degree. Rolf lives near Zurich and enjoys reading and smoking fine Cuban cigars.

Elina Hiltunen is member of the advisory board of the European Futurists Conference Lucerne. Elina Hiltunen is a futurist and founder of What's Next Consulting Oy. She is an active researcher, writer and consultant in futures field, specialized in weak signals. She has been active in developing new innovative tools for anticipating and innovating the futures; like Futuropoly, TrendWiki (co-developed with Data Rangers Oy)) and Futures Window. Hiltunen has previously worked as a futurist at Nokia, corporate strategy and as a researcher in Finland Futures Research center. From basic education she is M.Sc in chemical engineering, and she is currently finalizing her PhD. about weak signals and organizational futures learning at Helsinki School of Economics.

Marc is Head of Communications and responsible for press relations, registration and newsletters. He is a Master of Law University of Zurich, but has been working for over 20 years as a freelance journalist for the leading print-publications of Switzerland i.e. Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Weltwoche, Tages-Anzeiger, SonntagsZeitung, NZZ am Sonntag, SonntagsBlick, Bilanz etc. His journalistic hunting grounds are entertainment and lifestyle or as he puts it: «Everything that's fun.» He is considered the leading journalist in the field of videogames and gives lectures as well as workshops at universities about the interactive entertainment business and its sociocultural impact. Next to his journalstic activities he works as a PR- and communications consultant. Marc Bodmer is happily married and proud father of a clever little son.

Martin Lehman

Martin Lehmann will serve as a host of the European Futurists Conference Lucerne for the members of the Advisory Board. He has been working as a research fellow and project manager at Empa's Technology and Society Laboratory (www.empa.ch/tsl) since 2004. The Lab carries out research on the impact of materials and upcoming technologies on environment and society with a strong focus on future perspectives. Martin has expertise in Life Cycle Assessment and its methodology. Between 1998 and 2002, Martin worked at the Finland Futures Research Centre in Turku, Finland. There, he was in charge of organising a number of international scientific conferences in futures studies. Martin is a graduate of the University of Zurich. He lives in Bertschikon (Gossau ZH) near Zurich with his wife and two daughters. He is a member of SWISSFUTURE - the Swiss Society for Futures Studies (www.swissfuture.ch).

Heading the programme Local Societies in a Global Economy. Professor in Economic and Social Geography. Came from Dalarna Research Institute where he headed a research group from 1994-2001 carrying out research on social and economic change in rural Sweden. Swedish team leader in international research projects financed by the EU FAIR-programme and the Fifth Framework programme. One of these, the PRIDE project: Partnerships for Rural Integrated Development studied the value added by partnership organisation in rural development projects in 24 study areas in six European countries. Erik Westholm is a Research Adviser for the National Agency for Rural Affairs. In year 2000 he was awarded the Johan Gottlieb Gahn Akademy price for "Important Contributions to the Development of the Region Dalarna in Sweden".

Prof. Dr. John Ratcliffe is a member of the Advisory Board of the European Futurists Conference Lucerne. John Ratcliffe is a chartered planning and development surveyor with over thirty five years experience as a consultant and academic in the fields of urban planning and real estate development. Currently he is Director and Dean of the Faculty of the Built Environment at the Dublin Institute of Technology, which is the largest university level institution in the Republic of Ireland, and Founder and Chairman of The Futures Academy there. He is also an Honorary Visiting Professor at the University of Salford and the University of Lincoln as well as an Associate of the futures consultancy Outsights in the UK. The author of a number of books and numerous other publications on land use and development matters, John Ratcliffe has also acted as a consultant to national and international organisations and agencies in both the public and private sectors. He was the initial Chairman of the Policy and Practice Committee of the Urban Land Institute [Europe] and the founder of the Greater Dublin ‘Prospectives' Society. He has extensive international experience and spent over ten years in the Far East. Over the past decade he has acquired a particular expertise in the Futures Field, with special reference to the sustainable development of city regions. He has recently been involved in: collaborating in a major European project concerned with Improving the Quality of Life in Large Urban Distressed Areas [LUDA]; conducting a Dublin Vision 2020 exercise on behalf of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce; advising the Dublin Regional Business Alliance and the Dublin City Centre Business Association in respect of strategic planning; and providing assistance to various development agencies in several European countries. He has also acted as a consultant to a range of corporate enterprises in their long-term strategic thinking and planning. In August 2005, he was elected to the position of Secretary-General of the World Futures Studies Federation, the global body for professional futurists.
