Century, Inc. formally Century Associates, was started by Dwight Grove, President of Grove Manufacturing Company, Shady Grove, Pennsylvania. Originally an investment club, Century got its name from the 100 members who made up the club. As with most investment clubs, it floundered with only the stockbroker making any money. In 1956 H. Duane Kinzer, a grove employee, was given eight shares of stock in an effort to change the downward direction.
