Alice Abreu, Professor Emerita of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in Brazil, PhD in Social Sciences from the University of São Paulo, Brazil (1980), and M.Sc. in Sociology from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) of the University of London (1971), was a Full Professor of Sociology at the UFRJ for twenty-five years and has published extensively in sociology of work and gender as well as, more recently, on gender and science.
Prof. Abreu has been a member of several important boards and advisory committees of different institutions and projects: since 2010, the Board of the Gender Advisory Committee of the UNCSTD and the Vice-President of the Research Committee 23 Sociology of Science and Technology of the International Sociological Association; since 2017 the Steering Committee of GenderInSITE; from 2015 to 2017 the Advisory Committee of the STEM and Gender Advancement (SAGA) UNESCO project, that aimed at offering governments and policymakers a variety of tools to improve measurements and policies for gender equality in science, technology and innovation. In 2019/2020 she was member of the Emerging Science Partners Working Group of the Challenges for International Scientific Partnerships project of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She is the deputy representative of GenderInSITE at the Standing Committee for Gender Equality in Science.

Alik Ismail-Zadeh is Senior Research Fellow at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany. He has been a scholar/research professor at several academic institutions including the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (Azerbaijan), Chinese Academy of Sciences (China), Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (France), Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (Italy), U. Trieste (Italy), U. Tokyo (Japan), Russian Academy of Sciences (Russia), KTH Stockholm (Sweden), U. Uppsala (Sweden), U. Cambridge (UK), and U. California Los Angeles (USA).
His scientific interests cover geophysics, mathematical geosciences, computational methods, natural hazards, and disaster risks. He is principal (co)author of over 140 peer-reviewed research papers, book chapters, four special issues, and six books. Alik has served the ISC as inaugural Secretary (2018-2021), Chair of the Award Committee (2020-2021) and a senior adviser to the Governing Board (2022-). He was Secretary-General of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG, 2007-2019), and served on advisory committees of several professional, international and intergovernmental organizations including the American Geophysical Union (AGU), CTBTO, European Geosciences Union, EuroScience, GEO, UNDRR, and UNESCO. He is a Member of Academia Europaea, Fellow of AGU, IUGG and the Royal Astronomical Society, and honored by several prestigious awards.

Anna Davies is Professor of Geography, Environment and Society at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, where she directs the Environmental Governance Research Group and is a member of the Royal Irish Academy.
She is widely published with more than 100 publications from research monographs to industry publications and leads diverse research projects at the intersection of environmental governance and sustainability science. She has advised the Irish Government as an independent member of its National Economic and Social Council and Ireland's National Climate Change Advisory Council as well as being a Board Member of the European Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production and a founding member of Future Earth's Knowledge Action Network (KAN) on Systems of Sustainable Consumption and Production. Anna was also the founding Chair of Future Earth Ireland. A keen supporter of grassroots sustainability initiatives, Anna is the Chairperson of The Rediscovery centre in Dublin, a creative space connecting people, ideas and resources for greener living in Ireland. Anna currently holds a number of European and Irish grants exploring diverse issues of environmental governance and sustainable development from climate change adaptation to sustainable urban food systems.

Armin Grunwald studied physics at the universities Münster and Cologne. He received the diploma in Physics in 19884, and the PhD in 1987 with a thesis on thermal transport processes in semiconductors at Cologne University. From 1987-1991 he acted as software engineer and systems specialist in a company. From 1991-1995 Armin Grunwald was researcher at the DLR (German Aerospace Center) in the field of technology assessment. In 1996 he was appointed vice director of the European Academy Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. In 1998 hereceived his habilitation at the faculty of social sciences and philosophy at Marburg University with a study on culturalistic planning theory.

Dr. Adelle Thomas is a Senior Scientist at Climate Analytics. Her areas of research focus on climate change adaptation, limits to adaptation, and loss and damage in the developing world, with a particular focus on small island developing states. A human-environment geographer, Adelle has over 16 years of practice in the intersections between climate action and development. Her research and policy experience have centred on conceptualising, assessing and responding to loss and damage at international, national and sub-national scales; assessing constraints and limits to adaptation; and investigating how climate change intersects with other development challenges. She has extensive experience in providing scientific advice at the climate-policy interface, including in the UNFCCC and in national and sub-national policy processes.
Adelle is currently Vice-Chair for Working Group Two for the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and has served as a Lead Author for the IPCC Special Report on 1.5°C, Sixth Assessment Report Working Group II and Sixth Assessment Synthesis Report. She was also a Contributing Author and Chapter Scientist for the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report Working Group II. Adelle serves as a member of several groups, including the UNFCCC Technical Expert Group on Comprehensive Risk Management; the Liaison Committee of the Regional Focal Point for Latin America and the Caribbean of the International Science Council; and the Regional Advisory Committee for the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund in the Caribbean. She has previously served as a member of the UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee and the National Sustainable Development Goals Committee for The Bahamas.
Adelle obtained a PhD and MS in Geography from Rutgers University, a BS in Civil Engineering from University of Minnesota and and BA in Engineering Science from Macalester College.

Salim S. Abdool Karim, FRS, is Director of the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA), Durban, and CAPRISA Professor of Global Health at Columbia University, New York. He is an Adjunct Professor of Immunology and Infectious Diseases at Harvard University, Boston, Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Cornell University, New York, and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban. He previously served as President of the South African Medical Research Council and as Chair of the South African Ministerial Advisory Committee on COVID-19.
Professor Karim is a clinical infectious diseases epidemiologist widely recognized for scientific and leadership contributions in AIDS and Covid-19. He is currently serving as a Member of the Africa Task Force for Coronavirus, the African Union Commission on Covid-19 and the Lancet Commission on COVID-19. He serves on the Boards of several journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet Global Health, Lancet HIV and mBio. He is the Chair of the World Health Organisation (WHO) HIV Strategic and Technical Advisory Committee as well as the WHO TB-HIV Task Force. He is a member of the WHO's nine-member Science Council and serves on the Scientific Advisory Board for Global Health at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. His awards include the African Union's "Kwame Nkrumah Award" which is Africa's most prestigious scientific award, the Kuwait Al-Sumait Award, the Canadian Gairdner Global Health Award and pinnacle awards from the African Academy of Sciences, Academy of Science in South Africa, Royal Society of South Africa and the South African Medical Research Council. He is member of the American Academy of Microbiology, US National Academy of Medicine and a Fellow of the Royal Society.

Van Jaarsveld obtained his PhD in Zoology (University of Pretoria), pursued postdoctoral studies and research in conservation biology and global security in Australia and the UK, and completed executive management training at Harvard University. His research work focused on biodiversity, conservation planning, biodiversity and climate change, and ecosystem services. He was appointed full professor at both the Universities of Pretoria and Stellenbosch and published more than 100 primary research papers, including highly cited works in Science and Nature.
Van Jaarsveld served as co-chair of the MEA follow-up: Sub-global assessments, member of the International Council for Science (ICSU) nominations committee, IPBES focal point, Chaired the G8 science ministers' group of senior officials on global research infrastructure, chair of IGFA, co-Chair of Belmont Forum, member of the ICSU review panel (2013), IPBES external review panel (2018), Future Earth external review Panel (2020) and on the ISC Commission on Missions for Sustainability (2021).
