Our association has a long and rich history, and there are many people who have made significant contributions over the years. For some, awards have been named in their honour... The O'Brien Medal was first awarded in 1963, and was struck in honour of John O'Brien, the then Secretary of the association. It was a role he held from 1962 to 1975, along with being Vice President from 1958-1961 and again from 1975-1987. John was also a DBA representative player from 1948-1953... He served at Frankston Baseball Club from 1948 as either Secretary, Coach or President until 1967, and then went on to become Secretary and Treasurer of the VPBL from 1974-1988, and Councillor for the Victorian Baseball Association from 1979-1988. For all his work, John was awarded Life Membership with Frankston Baseball Club, Dandenong Baseball Association and Victorian Provincial Baseball League. In 2000 he was awarded the Australian Sports Medal in recognition for his services to baseball.
