Gyurme and his dad Kalsang Choewang, making Rug is not a profession, it is TRADITION. Gyurme grew up in a rug family helping his dad while going to high school in Kathmandu, Nepal. He is a second generation rug producer... Gyurme's dad, Kalsang Choewang, is one of the pioneer in establishing Rug Industry in Kathmandu, Nepal. Mr. Kalsang, 78, was trained as a first Rug designer in Nepal for Red Cross operating carpet factory for Tibetan Refugees in Kathmandu, Nepal... Making carpets has been tradition passed on from generation to generation. it was Gyurme's dad who chose to be rug producer. Here in this National geography Magazine, world famous photographer Steve McCurry, took picture of my dad in the factory. It was published in April 2002 Issue.
