David Bailey

David Bailey is an English photographer most well known for his early fashion and portrait photography from the 1960s. Dropping out of high school, Bailey joined the airforce where he developed an interest in photography. This was largely due to the influence of photographs by Henri Cartier-Bresson. Bailey began his professional career as an assistant at the John French studio in 1959. After a short time there, he contracted with British Vogue magazine, where he quickly began producing cover images. Along with photographers Terance Donovan and Brian Duffy, Bailey reportedly helped create the Swinging Sixties scene in London. David Bailey. (n.d.). Artnet.com. Gordon Parks

Gordon Parks was the first African American to produce and direct movies and is best known for the 1971 film, Shaft. "I chose my camera as a weapon against all the things I dislike about America-poverty, racism, discrimination," Gordon Parks. Parks was from a large, poor family. Growing up in Fort Scott, Kansas, he lost his mother when he was just 15 years old and moved to Minnesota to live with his sister. His experience of and exposure to poverty, both rural and urban, significantly shaped his worldview.
