Our collection also includes some very nice pieces of war lace and we have two publications on the subject available for purchase: Belgian Lace Made in Belgium During the War and The Story of "Ma's" Laces:1914-1918 - Her response to the trauma of wartime... The first lace school in this area is mentioned in Marienberg in 1521. Lace making soon spread to Annaberg. Barbara Uttman, born in 1514, originally brought lace making to this mining town and the lace makers supplemented their dwindling mining income by providing lace for the fashion industry. It is interesting to see statues, stained glass windows and ornamental iron reproductions of lace makers in the towns in this area...
