James Bater qualified from University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff, in 2003. Having previously worked across South Wales at practices in Dinas Powys, Bridgend and Skewen, James has now settled in uSmile Dental Practice Porthcawl. He began working at uSmile in 2012. James took over as Principal Dentist and Owner at uSmile Dental Practice Porthcawl, in April 2015.
James is interested in all aspects of dentistry and is motivated to continue providing the highest standards of care and customer service the patients at uSmile have become accustomed to over the past 30 years. James is a member of the Local Dental Committee, representing dentists across ABMU, since 2013.
Having grown up in South Wales, James naturally has an affinity with rugby. He enjoyed a successful 10 year career as a professional rugby player, representing Swansea RFC, the Ospreys and the Scarlets, as well as gaining full international honours for Wales in 2003.
Away from the practice, James has a passion for all sport and especially enjoys cycling, skiing and golf.

Jennifer qualified from University of Wales, College of Medicine, Cardiff, in 2007. After a year in general practice, she spent the next three years in the Dental Hospital treating complicated cases referred by dentists. This has given Jennifer comprehensive experience in treating awkward cases. These skills are a welcome addition to our existing high standards at uSmile.
Since qualifying Jennifer has taken a special interest in children's dentistry and the restoration of adult teeth. You can expect excellence in dental care, whatever the treatment required.
Jennifer joined uSmile Dental Practice, Porthcawl, in 2011 and her cheerful personality very quickly made her popular with patients and colleagues.
In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys walking, dancing and craft-type art projects.
Jennifer is registered with the NHS in ABMU Health Authority, Healthcare Inspectorate Wales and is registered as a Denplan practitioner.
Lesa was born in Canada and trained to become a Dental Nurse with the army.
Lesa qualified in 1987 and has worked at uSmile for over 14 years.
Lisa qualified BDS from University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff, in 2003. After a period in Aberdare, Lisa helped to expand uSmile Dental Practice, Porthcawl, from May 2007.
Since then, our patients have warmed to Lisa's friendly smile and caring approach to dentistry, and she's become a hugely popular member of the team. With over 12 years experience, Lisa provides a full range of dentistry skills and always enjoys treating children.
In her spare time she loves spending time with family, travelling and shopping!
Lisa is registered with the NHS in ABMU Health Authority, with Healthcare Inspectorate Wales and is registered as a Denplan practitioner.
Millie attended Porthcawl Comprehensive school, after leaving school joined uSmile as a trainee dental nurse.
Millie is currently studying biology at Neath College.
In her free time she enjoys taking her dog on walks and participating in outdoor activities with her family.
Rachel grew up in the Rhonda Valley, before spending a year travelling around Australia Thailand.
On her return to the UK Rachel qualified as a Dental Nurse and has been a member of the team at uSmile for over 4 years. Rachel thoroughly enjoys working at the practice, training up new staff and meeting people.
Rhian joined the uSmile team in 2015 as a Dental Nurse and has over 20 years experience. She is currently adding to her qualifications by completing a Radiography course.
In her spare time, Rhian enjoys baking and, having recently moved home, has become partial to a bit of decorating and is hoping to learn some new gardening skills in the near future.
Sian has been the Practice Manager for over 30 years. She qualified in Nursing in 1982 and then as a Dental Nurse in 1995. Over the years Sian has done every job the practice requires!
Outside of the practice, Sian enjoys spending time with her large family - somebody always needs something! Sian tries to keep healthy, most recently taking up Pilates.
Tony qualified BDS from Cardiff in 1982, and 2 years later took over the dental practice opposite the police station in Porthcawl, where he remained Principal Dentist and Owner until April 2015.
Tony is enthusiastic about maintaining the highest standards of care in the practice. He takes a particular interest in saving teeth instead of extracting them and says he really enjoys winning the trust of nervous patients - who can then come to the dentist smiling and relaxed.
Although he's not one to blow his own trumpet, here are some of Tony's professional achievements:
Tony spent 7 years as a Trainer and Mentor sharing his knowledge and experience with newly qualified dentists. Tony spent 12 years on the Local Dental Committee, stepping down in 2015.
Tony is a strong Christian and family man, who brings his ethics into the Practice and also enjoys kayaking. He now spends a lot of his spare time researching and writing.
