Astrid Pernstich

Astrid joined Murphy Philipps in 2005 after graduating and working in Milan and has been an Associate since 2012. She has worked on several award winning schemes in the office and is also responsible for overseeing the office's quality and environmental management system.

Clive Guyer

Clive Guyer joined Murphy Philipps in 2004. He has worked on a broad range of projects from award winning schemes to the successful completion of major projects, especially in the commercial, healthcare and research sectors.

James Philipps

Job Titles:

James Philipps co-founded Murphy Philipps in 1997 after extensive experience at a number of high-profile architectural practices. Although interested in all aspects of architecture, James has a particular love for all things healthcare as well as focusing on design quality within the practice. This is coupled with striving for imaginative solutions to the challenges that all projects bring. Without exception, James considers all of our clients as friends first and foremost and enjoys driving projects forward with them, exceeding their expectations, and ensuring schemes are delivered on time and on budget.

Marc Levinson

Job Titles:

Marc has worked at Murphy Philipps Architects since 2002 and has been a Partner since 2006. His experience includes projects in the healthcare, commercial and residential sectors. Marc has also been extensively involved with the writing of design guidance for the Department of Health and undertaken research relating to healthcare environments. He regularly presents at conferences, both in the UK and internationally, on issues including sustainability and innovative healthcare design. In 2013, Marc completed a masters' degree with distinction in Planning Buildings for Health at the Medical Architecture Research Unit. Marc is currently the MSc Module Leader in 'Health Planning in Developing Countries' on the 'International Health Studies' masters' programme at London South Bank University.

Paul Mathews

Paul joined Murphy Philipps in 1998 shortly after its formation. He had previously worked for Alsop & Stormer, Michael Hopkins and TR Hamzah & Yeang in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Paul became a partner in 2006, and his technical and detailed design expertise has been key to delivering Murphy Philipps more complex Critical Care, Pathology and Imaging projects. He has particular interest in the patient experience, and the way in which the environment, technology, materials and lighting can affect the whole patient journey. The design of the recently completed Critical Care unit which he oversaw was rated excellent by the Care Quality Commission in terms of its hollistic approach, functional efficiency and promotion of wellness. He is responsible for both NHS and Private Independent sector healthcare work as well as leading the practices recruitment and developing the IT system.

Paul Young

Paul joined Murphy Philipps in 2021, after a long period working for a large specialist architecture and design practice, as well as a number of leading industry healthcare specialists. He has 30 years of architectural experience including large scale complex master planning projects, hospitals and education buildings as well as major high profile sporting facilities. He has many years of overseas experience working in Stockholm and Berlin. Paul leads teams through the design and delivery process, working closely with clients and contractors to deliver buildings of the highest quality, bringing together all the disciplines in the design process.

Xav Roberts

Xav joined Murphy Philipps in 2007, after graduating and starting his career working for a large multidisciplinary architecture practice. He has 16 years of architectural experience with involvement in residential, aviation and commercial projects as well as a variety of healthcare buildings.He has helped to deliver several of our award-winning projects and is also responsible for technical support and software training in the office.
