Andrea Copping

Andrea holds a BSc. in marine biology, and a M.S. and PhD. in biological oceanography. Andrea has spent most of her professional career on interactions between human activities and the marine environment in coastal and estuarine areas. Andrea joined Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in 2006. Previously, Andrea was Associate Director of the Washington Sea Grant, University of Washington. Since joining PNNL, Andrea has led a team of scientists and engineers applying risk-based approaches to understanding potential environmental effects of marine renewable energy and offshore wind. Dr. Copping also leads research and development on marine energy for the Blue Economy. Dr. Copping is a Distinguished Faculty Fellow at the University of Washington, and Associate Editor of the Coastal Management Journal.

Andres is the past Chair of Technical Committee & Representative of South America on the board of directors of PAMEC. Andrés F. Osorio is a professor at Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and he is the director of OCEANICOS research group. He is also the director of Center of Excellence in Marine Science - CEMarin (www.cemarin.org). He has experience in management of ocean and coastal zones (GZOC), renewable marine energies, numerical modelling for reanalysis, and forecasting and designing solutions for coasts and oceans engineering. He has been involved in international projects such as: CoastView (vigilance of coastal systems in European countries), software development of SMC (Coastal Modelling System), and a technological strategy for climate change made for Colombia's Environmental and Sustainable Development and UNEP-Riso. His experience as professor, international researcher, and consultant places him as a part of the international experts in Coastal Engineering, Marine Energy and GZOC in Central and South America.

Bruce Cameron - is an Adjunct Fellow at the University of Southampton, and President of PAMEC.Energy Association. He is retired from 20 years of service in the Nova Scotia Government, with leadership roles in the areas of renewable energy and electricity. He is now Principal Consultant with Envigour Policy Consulting Inc. (Canada) Bruce is Principal Consultant with Envigour Policy Consulting Inc., working on strategic energy policy projects in the realms of electricity, efficiency, distributed electricity technologies and markets, energy data and information as well as energy economic development initiatives, with a focus on tidal. Until his retirement in 2016, he was the Executive Director of Electricity, Renewables and Efficiency with the Nova Scotia Department of Energy. In this role he led a team that helped develop Nova Scotia's energy innovation, regulatory, and research agenda for marine renewables. He co-organizes PAMEC events and workshops.

Dan Hasselman

Dan Hasselman is the Science Director for the Fundy Ocean Research Center for Energy in Nova Scotia, and leads strategic science initiatives around environmental monitoring of tidal energy devices in support of project permitting and growth of the marine renewable energy sector in Canada. To that end, Dan has led the development of research programs in the Bay of Fundy with practical applications for tidal energy project development, and has established collaborations with international research partners to publish original research and syntheses related to environmental monitoring of marine renewable energy devices. Dan has a PhD (Biology) from Dalhousie University and has held Research Associate positions at the University of Washington and the University of California Santa Cruz. Dan has over 15 years of experience engaging with the international research community, building partnerships with indigenous groups, and working collaboratively with governmental and regulatory agencies in Canada and the United States.

Dana is active in the development of the marine renewable energy sector through involvement in industry associations including Marine Renewables Canada and the Pan American Marine Energy Conference Association, a non-profit organization created to bring together researchers, industry and government involved in marine renewable energy in the Americas (including the Caribbean) by means of the bi-annual Pan-American Marine Energy Conference (PAMEC). He has been involved in numerous sector strategies, research and development related to tidal energy including the Canadian Marine Renewable Energy Technology Roadmap, The Bay of Fundy Strategic Environmental Assessment, The Value Proposition for Tidal Energy Development (OERA), the Fundy Energy Research Network SocioEconomic Scoping Study, Southwest Nova Scotia Tidal Energy Resource Assessment, Mi'kmaq Ecological Knowledge Study for the Bay of Fundy and the Nova Scotia Marine Renewable Energy Strategy. Dana is the past Chair of the Fundy Energy Research Network Socio Economic Committee and Past Chair of Marine Renewables Canada (MRC). Dana has been involved in PAMEC as a director and officer since its inception in 2015 participating in board governance and event organization. He has been active in the development of the marine renewable energy sector in Canada through involvement with Marine Renewables Canada (Past Chair) and the Fundy Energy Research Network Socio Economic Committee (Co-Chair). His marine renewable experience includes involvement in sector strategies, policy development and research including the Canadian Marine Renewable Energy Technology Roadmap, The Bay of Fundy Strategic Environmental Assessment, The Value Proposition for Tidal Energy Development (OERA), the Fundy Energy Research Network SocioEconomic Scoping Study, Southwest Nova Scotia Tidal Energy Resource Assessment, Mi'kmaq Ecological Knowledge Study for the Bay of Fundy and the Nova Scotia Marine Renewable Energy Strategy. Diego Acevedo

Diego is an engineer, and sustainability and innovation expert specialized in development of solutions for small island states. He is currently a Doctoral candidate at the KU Leuven and researcher in the University of Aruba. Diego has worked on the development of technological solutions related to marine energy, and marine-based floating solar PV electricity generation. He is founder of Eneda Engineering Services VBA, and co-founder of Bluerise BV, now part of Allseas Engineering BV, working on OTEC Technology. He has worked on optimal energy mix for island nations, and in industrial ecological systems with multiple-input and multiple-outs strategies towards development of a circular economy in the Caribbean.

Dr. Oscar Alvarez

Oscar Alvarez is Civil Engineer, M.Eng. in Water Resources, and Ph.D. in Marine Sciences. He is currently associate professor in coastal physical oceanographer at the Department of Physics and Geosciences at Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla, Colombia. Oscar is senior researcher of the national system of science, technology, and innovation of Colombia. His main field of work is the analysis of resources, feasibility of implementation, and possible environmental impacts of marine energies, with special focus on Salinity Gradient Energy. He also investigates on estuarine hydrodynamics from both field data and modelling. The delta of the Magdalena River, discharging into the Caribbean Sea in Barranquilla, has been the most important lab for his research group to approach estuarine processes.

Emiliano Gorr

Emiliano has a degree in Marine Sciences from the University of Vigo, specializing in physical oceanography. He did his M.Sc. in Coastal Oceanography at the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), Mexico, where he specialized in numerical wave modeling under the supervision of Dr. Héctor García Nava. He is currently a PhD candidate at UABC in the Environment and Development graduate program, where he assesses the feasibility of the sustainable use of wave energy as a renewable resource in Baja California. He also actively participates in the Mexican Center for Innovation in Ocean Energy (CEMIE-Oceano) within the strategic line of Wave Energy. This center is in charge of generating innovative products, techniques, and technologies that exploit the diversity of available ocean energy resources to sustainably, effectively, and profitably supply an increasing part of the Mexican Republic's energy demand. Within the same, he serves as vice president of the CEMIE-Ocean Student Committee and chairs the Pan-American Ocean Energy Students Network (POES.Energy). The latter promotes and encourages, in a synergic way, the generation and sustainable use of marine energy in the Pan-American context through a multi and interdisciplinary open platform created by and for students and young researchers who exchange information allowing them to contribute to the knowledge, as well as to the use of these energies.

Francisco Javier OCAMPO-TORRES

Oceanographer from Marine Science School of University of Baja California (1980), MSc in Physical Oceanography from CICESE (1982), and PhD from Oceanography Department, University of Southampton (1989), with more than 40 years' experience with studies of ocean surface wave dynamics and related processes. Author or co-author of more than 40 scientific articles published in peer review journals, mainly associated with ocean surface wave dynamics and applications, air-sea interaction with emphasis in carbon dioxide and momentum transfer between the ocean and atmosphere. Research interest is very much related to perform detailed observations of the most relevant physical variables associated with the dynamics of the sea surface, making use of modern devices ranging from ADCP and turbulent velocity detectors, to optical cameras and radars on-board of satellites or airplanes, as well as deployed along the coast. More recently with great interest in ocean wave energy and the potential conversion to practical uses, dealing with resources evaluation and with the development of experiments in the laboratory and at sea, to make progress on designing and building new devices to convert the ocean wave energy. Héctor is a research scientist at the Institute of Oceanological Research (IIO) of the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California. He is head of the Physical Oceanography Department of the IIO and a founder member of the Mexican Center for Innovation on Marine Energy (CeMIE-Océano A.C.). His research interest focus on wind-waves and wave related processes including wave energy (resource assessment and energy extraction), wave dynamics, air-sea interaction, and coastal dynamics. Héctor García-Nava is a research scientist and professor of physics and wave dynamics at the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), Mexico. He has been head of the Physical Oceanography Department of the Institute of Oceanographic Research (IIO) of the UABC since 2017. He has a PhD in Physical Oceanography, granted in 2011 by the Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education of Ensenada (CICESE). His main research interests are related to ocean waves, including: wave energy harnessing, wave dynamics, wave effects on air-sea interaction, and coastal processes. He is a member of PAMEC since 2020, he had an active role in the planning and promotion of PAMEC 2022 in Ensenada, México, and since have been contributing to PAMEC's board at different levels. Some awards he had received include: the "Francisco Medina Martínez" awarded for the best doctoral thesis in geosciences in 2011, by the Mexican Geophysical Union, he has been distinguished as National Research Scientist level-1 by the National System of Researchers of the Mexican Council for Sciences and Technology (SNI-CONACyT) since 2012 and as a Distinguished Professor by the Secretary of Public Education (SEP) since 2014.

Josue Quintanilla

Josue Quintanilla from El Salvador, is a professional physicist enthusiastic about the ocean energy with an rescue diver certification. Has experience with evaluation of coastal hydrodynamic and wave modeling of his county. He has also collaborated with the making and updated process of natural science books. He is currently the El Salvador Embassador for Pan-American Ocean Energy Student Network, POES.

José Rodrigo Rojas Morales

Rodrigo is an energy and environmental specialist working for the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity (ICE) for over 20 years. He currently leads the task force on innovation, observatory of energy foresight, and member of the expert team for development of non-conventional renewable portfolio. In the last years, he has been coordinating the Costa Rican ocean energy road map, and he was the lead organizer of PAMEC-2020 in Costa Rica. He is also a lecturer in the ecology department of the National University of Costa Rica, and thesis advisor on energy and environment related topics.
