BETTER THAN BMR
Updated 28 days ago
The key to the "Better than BMR" system is corn stalk diameter. By expanding the diameter of the corn stalk, the percentage of lignin and indigestible material declines. Our results have shown that we can lower lignin by 30% and increase overall fiber digestibility by nearly 8% by expanding stalk diameter...
For the past 4 years we have been working to develop a program to do just that. By matching unique corn hybrids to our growing system, we have grown corn silage with fiber digestibility as good or better than BMR. We have improved starch content by up to 8%, and we have eliminated lodging issues associated with BMR hybrids. We have improved drought tolerance, reduced the need for insect traits and the need for expensive fungicide applications.
