Updated 94 days ago
I work as a Developer in a Financial institution. A while back I lost the password to my Ethereum wallet, and that sucked a lot. See, I had bought some ether, but when I wanted to transfer it, I had completely forgotten the password to my wallet. In a nutshell, I was screwed. Ethereum doesn't really have an "I lost my password" option, so I was forced to think of a different way to approach it. I had an idea of what my password would be, since I knew what word it was. However, I just didn't know what letters I had capitalized and which ones I had exchanged with numbers. "Great!", I thought, "this can't be that difficult!". "I'll just try out every single possible combination and will eventually find it". So, I grabbed my trusted calculator (phone, this was in 2016, and not 1996), and started calculating the number of possible combinations. It turns out it amounted to 20756 possible combinations! Maybe it wasn't so great after all, how was I going to do this by hand?... I went scouring..
