MIX - Key Persons

Damon Sidel

Damon Sidel formed Mix Design and Development as a full-service design and architecture practice to delivering beautiful, thoughtful design in partnership with clients. Mix's goal is to leverage a process-driven approach to unlock the hidden potential in every project. Damon has over 20 years of experience as an architectural designer. He started his career at a small, local firm doing thoughtful work on tight budgets and took those practical skills and knowledge to the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) where he got his Master of Architecture with honors. During and after his studies, he focused on learning how to design from the best. With Safdie Architects, he learned from Moshe Safdie while working on iconic, international projects including The Jewel at Changi Airport and Marina Bay Sands in Singapore; Altair in Colombo, Sri Lanka; and Serena del Mar Hospital in Colombia. The unique skill set he developed leverages technology to facilitate the design process and often positioned him to be in charge of some of the most complex aspects of these projects. Damon's success on these projects was due to his blend of the analytic and synthetic, the ability to break complex problems down into manageable components and then recombine the best solutions to those partial problems into a unified whole. Because of Damon's wide range of experience, his work cannot be summarized by talking about experience and expertise in one sector, geographic region, or even within a common set of parameters such as accessibility, sustainability, or dealing with historic commissions, although he is familiar with each of these. Rather, Damon's experience has shaped his philosophy of design and his view of the profession along with informing the process he employs and the ways he prefers to operate.
